rat. what i've done i'll face myself and cross out
what i've become
The sun beat down on his back, warming his fur. But it still didn't cheer his mood. Rat sat atop the Sabretooth Rock, his mud-coloured fur dull even in the bright sunshine. His muddy khaki eyes were fixed ahead, his tail curled over his paws. The beauty of the day inspired no thrill of joy, no shimmer of happiness. He was still the same ugly old Rat. The loner tom gave a great sigh, his chest heaving in and out. Was it possible that he had become even more lonely over these past moons? The tom would have been only a young warrior, had he stayed in his birth clan. As Ratkit. He snorted. What would they have called him? Who would want to be named after the biggest pest in the forest?
Not him, for sure. But he was stuck with it.[/blockquote]

Kadabra
I walk these streets A loaded six string on my back I play for keeps 'Cause I might not make it back "Hello, dear..."The hypnotic, smooth voice sounded so faintly, yet ever so audible around the clearing. The words dripped like blood from her lips, carrying on like the warning hiss of a snake. A charcoal-colored paw emerged from a dried bush, then slowly came another. blue-violet eyes were then visible and her swirl-patterned head thrust out from the shrub. At last, she fully revealed herself, her pelt gleaming majestically in the sunlight. The brown tom's pelt was so dull, it was almost shocking, but she kept herself composed as usual. She never showed much feeling. Her pretty lips curled into a darling smile. "What's your name, darling?" she mewed, that hint of innocent evil drifting with her melodic voice. She came closer, her eyes half-closed and glinting sweetly, but behind them hid her hatred of the world and al of it's inhabitants. Kadabra hated everything that lived, especially the stupid Clan cats. Oh, how she despised them all, all of them. The cat before her had no scent of the wretches though, so she didn't lash. Not yet, anyway.[/blockquote]

A scent swirled towards him from the bushes. A scent that, a spilt-second before, had not been there. Rat shifted his position slightly, dull brown fur rising on his wiry shoulders. His slightly pinched face tightened, and his olive eyes darkened. If whatever was approaching was a threat, he was ready. He relaxed when a sleek-coated she-cat slid from between the holly branches. Rat could scent the hatred rolling from her body. He wondered what she had to make her so unhappy.
"Rat." The tom lifted a paw, rubbing it over his cheek as though trying to improve the appearance of his fur. He was always self-conscious when other cats looked at him. He could tell by the look in her eyes that she had noticed his revolting appearance. He tried not to care, lashing his tail and pricking his ears. "What's your's, stranger?" He kept his voice carefully neutral, the tones rasping in his throat. This cat clearly didn't want to make friends, but he didn't want to pick a pointless fight with her.[/blockquote]

Kadabra
I walk these streets A loaded six string on my back I play for keeps 'Cause I might not make it back Rat. It did quite match his appearance, and by the look on his face and in his eyes, he could read her like a book. She raised a brow and shook her head. "I go by Kadabra," she mewed, sitting and curling her tail around her paws. He seemed so nervous, so self-conscious. It made sense though. Yet despite her beauty, she didn't judge too much on appearance Kadabra liked a tom with personality, one that was as wicked and hateful as her. She pursed her lips for a moment, then inquired, "Why so hostile, Rat? Her voice was smooth as the wind, so tempting yet so evil, like the tone of Satan himself. The she-cat moved closer until she could see every detail of his rugged face, and finally she joined him upon the rock. "You can tell me..."[/blockquote]

Rat watched the she-cat closely, his khaki eyes wary. He could see her considering him. He twitched his shoulders, trying not to meet her eyes. Kadabra. It seemed to fit her. It sounded dark and mysterious... And somewhat wicked. Rat tensed slightly as the she-rogue moved closer, his tail lashing from side to side. He raised one eyebrow, his claws scraping the rock beneath his paws. He was sat too close to her. It felt odd. Rat leapt down from the rock, shuddering. He hoped she wouldn't take offense. It hadn't been anything to do with her personally.
The dull brown tom shook himself and swallowed, steadying his nerves. "It's my place to be wary," he mewed. "You never know what could be watching you." The tom blinked at Kadabrs for a split-second, then averted his gaze again.[/blockquote]

Kadabra
I walk these streets A loaded six string on my back I play for keeps 'Cause I might not make it back She smirked as he leapt away. It was the usual reaction from a tom. Not that she liked him that way, no. She just liked to play around with their weak little minds. The she-cat was sure she could never love, anyway, and no cat could love her. Kadabra shrugged. "I understand. The world is a dangerous place." It had a hint of sarcasm, but absolute truth. And it was true, especially for rogues. After all, Clan cats couldn't stand anyone on their territory, even if they were just passing through. If you were from another Clan, you were attacked. If you were from no Clan, you were killed. Ah, she hated her former life so much, she couldn't express it through words. Her mother who could never love her, that couldn't see the truth in her words. Her annoyiing little brother, Hocuskit, who couldn't stand up for himself, let alone for her.[/blockquote]

rat. what i've done i'll face myself and cross out

Though there was no way he could have known what Kadabra was thinking, Rat found his own thoughts drifting to the clans. He figured they were all as bad as his parents. Stupid, foolish cats that followed rules like dumb sheep. The brown tom twitched his shoulders. He wondered if his parents were still out there somewhere. Not that he cared. If he did ever come across them again, they would see just how much be resented them for what they had done to him. Rat blinked. He found that his claws had sunk into the earth unconsciously, and he sheepishly sheathed them, hoping Kadabra hadn't noticed.
"And of course, the clans increase their territory every day," he spat, the venom clear in his tone. The loner tom's dull green eyes glittered with annoyance. "Like we don't exist. Like we're nothing to them. Some day they'll learn just how foolish they really are." Rat finished this speech with a snort, shoulders bristling.[/blockquote]

Kadabra
I walk these streets A loaded six string on my back I play for keeps 'Cause I might not make it back One of her brows rose at the tom's words. Ah, they were so true. Those stupid Clan cats, they lived by that dumb code, not daring to break it. And for what? Honor? Ha! Honor meant nothing, nothing at all. It may gain respect, only a little. But in time, those worthless heroic deeds would be long forgotten, like a wave tossed ruthlessly against the shore, vapor thrown about by the vicious winds of a tornado. Time was the enemy of all; it brought tragedy and forgotten memories. And that's all their so-called honor would be, forgotten. The Clans," she spat, so hard she nearly choked by the speed of the rush of rough air through her throat. Waves of hatred pulsed from her bristling pelt, her muscles tense with the memory of her former life. Without shame, she rose a claw and struck the rock, leaving the boulder with quite a scar, one that definitely wouldn't come to erode any time soon. Kadabra grinned in satisfaction, then descended from the stone. "They wouldn't kill another Clan cat if they came on their territory, no. But if you don't live under the warrior code, you might as well consider yourself a piece of prey." The words warrior code were said with quite an emphasis, letting her opposition stand out. She began to tear at the deaden grass beneath her. "I would just love to sink my claws into their throats and taste the blood of those wretches...."[/blockquote]

Rat looked quite surprised as hatred began to pour from Kadabra's body like blood from a slain cat. The brown tom eyed her curiously, one brow slightly arched. He could tell they shared at least one thing; a mutual hatred of the clans. Even the very name made him grit his teeth in anger and loathing. He remembered the only reason he was in this life. Because of the clan cats. He only had this name, this label that made him feel so rotten inside, because of a clan cat. His mother. Rat withdrew his claw, realizing they had slid into the earth. He nodded at Kadabra's words.
"I hope this threat kills them all," he hissed softly, khaki eyes slitted. "I saw them fighting those... Those spectres. At this rate they'll all be wiped out." A flare of triumpth heated Rat's gaze. "I only wish I could rip some of their precious fur myself." He spat, his ears flat and fur bristling. "Clan cats. Worse than housecats."[/blockquote]

Kadabra
I walk these streets A loaded six string on my back I play for keeps 'Cause I might not make it back Kadabra nodded, smirking wickedly. The sarcastic smile was wretched, and her indigo eyes were burning with mixed emotions; hatred, rage, happiness, everything. The blend was so complex, it was nearly impossible to decipher. "Ah, yes, those ghosts," she mewed, snickering lightly. "I caught a glimpse of that battle. The Clans were losing terribly. I enjoyed it." Her small smirk became a twisted grin, her pearly teeth gleaming. The swirl-patterned she-cat licked a paw and gingerly drew it over her ear, then, quite suddenly, slashed at the ground. "Clan cats..." Her eyes went wild with hatred. She kept feeling sudden bursts of energy, accompanied by a need to rip open the skin of one of those dumb little warriors. When she'd said she wanted to taste their blood, she meant it, and she meant it well.[/blockquote]

rat. what i've done i'll face myself and cross out

Rat breathed deeply in an attempt to calm himself down. His chest felt tight. The loner got to his paws and began to pace rapidly, khaki eyes burning. He then turned and bounded into the ferns. The brown tom crouched down, tail flicking from side to side. He stayed still for a long while, his breathing muted and his body unmoving, like stone. Something flickered in the corner of his vision, and a large rabbit scampered into view. Rat smiled. Perfect.
The tom ran forward and pounced. His claws sank into the soft maple-brown fur. The rabbit gave a cry of distress. Rat didn't care. He bared his teeth to bite down, but then a twinge of emotion made him hesitate. He didn't need this prey. He was killing for the hell of it. What kind of cat did that? Rat released the rabbit, which hurtled into the bracken. Clumps of it's ochre fur littered the ground. Rat sheathed his claws, an odd shame drenching his heart. He padded back into the clearing. He looked at Kadabra. "I was after a rabbit. It got away," he mewed, just in case she needed an explanation.[/blockquote]
