~Brackenpaw~ The rather large, dark striped apprentice slowly walked through the forest, ready for the training her mentor was taking her for. She was in a depressed stage and felt ready to claw at something. Her moods would go up and down and she really didn't want to wait for her mentor, Scrawltale. But still she felt the need to control her feelings before they got out of control and she would land up hurting someone. She also got a fuzzy feeling, hoping that Puzzlepaw and his mentor would be able to come along and join there battle training.
She sat on her large rump and waited to hear some sound that would tell her someone was coming along the way. She also angled an ear back to listen in for anyone sneaking up on her. She wouldn't put it past her mentor to already be starting the training by coming up from behind.

scrawltale Scrawltale had let her young apprentice overtake her as they padded through the forest. The she-cat watched the large silver shape of Brackenpaw become smaller and smaller up ahead. The thin she-cat winced. Her legs really were becoming stiff now. She flexed her spindly limbs gingerly, before moving on. She couldn't help smiling slightly at the trail of depression Brackenpaw left behind her. Oh, the woes of growing up, she thought. The silver tabby reminded her of Beaconsong, when he was younger. He had been antsy and restless. That was, until he and Fernpelt had become mates. Maybe that was what Brackenpaw needed. A nice tom to cheer her up. Scrawltale's smile widened on her crinkled face as she imagined suggesting this to the pessimistic apprentice. Maybe not.
The bronze-coated warrior emerged from the trees, spotting Brackenpaw sat on a tree stump. She noticed the longhaired silver tabby angling her ears back. "Good, you've remembered to check behind you," she mewed, nodding in approval. She then stood facing the she-cat. "Right. I'm going to be a MoonClan invader, okay?" she pointed towards a large fern bush with her bony tail. "That's the nursery. I'm about to steal Fernpelt's new kits!" She slunk over to the bush and crouched near it, acting at taking kits from among the leaves.

~Brackenpaw~ One of her problems is being able to imagine what her mentor tells her to do and she'll sometimes take it to heart. She was already seeing Scrawltale as an intruding MoonClan cat and she unsheathed her claws only for a moment before she suddenly attacked. She ran towards the intruder at full force, only to swerve at the last moment to try and bite at her back legs. And intruding cat was one thing, but a cat who was trying to still kits was another thing. In the heat of battle Brackenpaw knew that you might have no time to think. Unfortunately she didn't give herself enough time to think as most cats would know, going for the back legs first wasn't the smartest thing to do.

scrawltale The Rex she-cat heard Brackenpaw's heavy breathing as the apprentice leapt. Her heart sank. It seemed she had forgotten to think - the large silver tabby had aimed for her hind legs. The skinny warrior kicked out with her hind paws, being careful to only strike the young she-cat's shoulders. Afterwards, Scrawltale turned to look at Brackenpaw. "In a real fight, those paws could have hit your eyes," she mewed, her voice firm but sympathetic. "You know that the hind legs are a bad place to attack. What's on your mind, Brackenpaw? Why are you so miserable?" The warrior looked into her apprentice's eyes for a moment, her own bulging yellow eyes soft with worry. She didn't like to see Brackenpaw so down. After a moment she gave a soft sigh, and turned around to face the 'nursery' once again.
"Come on, try again," she mewed encouragingly. "I know you can do better than that, Brackenpaw." The she-cat waited, again acting at scooping out kits from the ferns.

~Brackenpaw~ The apprentice growled, but not at her mentor. She growled at herself for being so stupid and knew her mentor was right. This time she gave herself time to think before she glared at the intruder, this time keeping her temper focused on her strength and how much force to use on her opponent.
This time she ran up to Scrawltale and reared up on her hind legs. She was almost as big as Scrawltale is, almost bigger in fact and she knew the warrior would most likely step aside to avoid the attack when Brackenpaw brought her massive body down. But once Brackenpaw would hit the ground she would go strait into a back kick, kicking her back legs out to knock Scrawltale off balance, and hopefully on off her feet.

scrawltale Scrawltale turned around as her apprentice reared up. She skipped deftly sideways, as Brackenpaw has suspected. At the last moment she caught on to what the young she-cat was planning to do. She jumped backward, but still lost her balance due to Brackenpaw's attack. Scrawltale swayed, her yellow eyes confused, before her hind legs crumpled beneath her. A moment she climbed upright again, her eyes shining with pride. "That's more like it!" she praised her apprentice. The Rex she-cat shook herself, and drew her pink tongue over her thinly-furred shoulders a couple of times, before lifting her head again. "Okay, this time I'm a MoonClan warrior," she mewed. "Who is sneaking up on you from behind, ready to ambush you. I want you to defend yourself, please."
Scrawltale padded backward until there was about three badgerlengths between her and Brackenpaw. She then ran forward, her body low, her pawsteps silent, as a ambusher would. She pounced, lashing out at Brackenpaw's face with an unsheathed paw in an attempt to startle her. She then ran at her, in an attempt to buffet her to the ground.
