dakota The day was pretty. It was hot. Dakota was laying in the garden of her mother's nest. She stood out against the too-bright green grass, her cream coloured fur groomed imaculately and her chocolate brown paws folding jauntily over one another. She had grown from a chubby, sweet kit into a slender, beautiful adolescent. And didn't she know it. The kittypet blinked her sapphire eyes adoringly at passing sparrows, her plume of a tail spread out behind her. Life was good. There were drooling tom's everywhere, summer was here, she was full, and Koda and Tama wern't here to annoy her.
A breeze ruffled her cheeks, carrying the scent of the forest. It roused her curiousity. Tala had told her four kits the story of how their father, Sentres, had nearly got them killed by venturing into the forest. They had been caught by a clan cat, whatever that was. Tala had said that Sentres was going to stay in the forest permenantly. Dakota wrinkled her nose. She loved it here in the twolegplace. The forest smelt of danger and fear... It seemed quite exciting, but not like a home. Still, it didn't hurt to have a look. The she-cat swept to her paws, tossing her tail over her back. She trotted daintily to the fence and clawed her way expertly over it. She was surprising supple for such a soft-looking cat. Dakota did not remain on the fence long. She leapt lightly onto the coarse grass on the other side, head raised in interest.

a bullet for your ♥ valentine ♥ Ashthief The forest hid those haunting yellow-green orbs from being seen. He watched her, that naive little she-cat that believed she was ready for an adventure. Those eyes narrowed and the ears that belonged to the master of those eyes swiveled forward, their large caverns capturing every sound she made. He scowled and flickered his long tail, standing up on his stilt-like legs and turning away. He was no longer interested. His nose wrinkled.
A twig snapped underneath his massive black-padded paws, and he cursed, his hair sparking to attention in surprise. "Damn...," he grunted, hoping that the female was too enthralled in her ogling to notice that the black tom had been surveying her presence ever since she crossed the fence. He stiffened at her naivete. It was obvious that she didn't know how things were run around here.

dakota Dakota skipped beneath a tree, her blue eyes gleaming with happness. What could be so dangerous about a few bushes and a heap of mud and grass? The rough ground felt odd on her soft paws. They made for the soft, fake grass and wooly carpets of the twolegplace. Dakota watched a rabbit bounce ahead of her, and chased after it. It outpaced her easily, but the wind whipping through her coat enthralled her. The kittypet heard a twig crack but thought nothing of it. She wheeled around, and caught a glint of yellow eyes.
The kittypet leapt back, a explosive hiss bursting from her throar. It did not look right, coming from such a soft, beautiful cat. The youngster's neat cream coloured fur bristled. "I know you're there! Come out and face me if you think you can," her sapphire eyes narrowed. "I'm not afraid of you!"

a bullet for your ♥ valentine ♥ Ashthief His frown deepened as he was called out and hissed at. He rolled his luminous eyes, completely unafraid by this pampered princess. He figured that she would like to see what she was up again instead of him sneaking around like some star-crossed lover.
Ashthief stepped out of the undergrowth, his long legs and lanky frame making him laughable while the stoic look on his face did not. His scowl was tinged with disgust and distaste. Cats like her didn't deserve to survive in this forest, not with such arrogance and ignorance.
He didn't speak, letting his manner talk for him as he towered over the younger she-cat. Granted, he was only a year older than she but his birth and attitude made all the difference in the world.

dakota Dakota took one delicate step backwards as Ashtheif padded out of the undergrowth. Her sapphire eyes narrowed. He looked filthy, and thin, and vicious. She raised her head in pride. She didn't know much about the forest, but she knew that this cat must be from here. He looked wild and skinny and underfed. The kittypet examined him from tail tip to ear tip. He didn't look that scary when you peered closely at him. He was just trying to frighten. And boy, was she not going to let that happen. Dakota took two steps towards him, raising her soft, featherlike tail in defiace.
She raised her head as high as it would go (just to his shoulder) and mewed clearly; "I said I'm not afraid of you," she mewed, her eyes betraying not a trace of fear. She then stepped back, her stance proud and face indignant. [/size]

a bullet for your ♥ valentine ♥ Ashthief "Is this some sort of dare thrown at you by your insolent kittypet friends?" Ashthief asked coldly.
That voice was the epitome of winter, its chilling grip surging around Dakota. Bony fingers stretched out, encircling her and examining her frame. Ashthief kept his frown present as he advanced upon the clean kittypet. His lip curled in disdain, his tail flicking haughtily.
"Take your playtime somewhere else."
Ashthief was quite unimpressed at the female's antics. Surely she did not come here thinking everyone would cater to her and all of her needs. Things didn't work like that out here, not in the Black River Forest. The skinny tom swiveled his lengthy body and began his trek back home, where pompous brats like this one wouldn't last long. If she met Vampire or Quetzal...
His yellow-green eyes stared ahead as he completely ignored her. He wasn't something to be used for bragging rights.

dakota Dakota curled her lip at Ashtheif's words. Who did he think he was? "No," she mewed, eyes glittering. "I came here by myself. Nobody tells me what to do." The kittypet frowned at the large tom, completely unimpressed. The cream coloured she-cat flicked up her tail at his words. "Playtime?" she burst out. "Who do you think you are? You're not exactly much older than me, so don't you go treating me like a kit!" Dakota blinked furiously at the grey tom. She stamped one chocolate coloured paw, not caring about the dirty grass beneath it. She was angry. Really angry. "You're not my mother," she mewed stubbornly. "You don't own this forest. You can't force me to leave. I'm just looking around." Dakota watched him turn away, her eyes smoldering.
"Yeah, that's it, go away!" she mewed. The kittypet looked over her shoulder, wondering about going back home. But she was here now. And what if the tom came back? He'd see that she'd scarpered at the first sign of trouble. She wasn't going to bow to him like some helpless mouse. No. She wasn't a coward.

a bullet for your ♥ valentine ♥ Ashthief The lissome black tom shook his head, dismissing Dakota's words as nothing but a mass of buzzing. His frame swayed as he walked away from her, his tail flickering. The afternoon was going to end soon and where would she be? Would she survive the night with its owls, bats, badgers, and foxes? He thought not. She'd go home to her little mommy and daddy and sissy and bro-bro. The Black River Forest wasn't forgiving in the nights, Ashthief had learned; it wasn't forgiving period. The pupils of his yellow-green dilated as he descended into darkness. He knew that she'd follow once the night started to fall, and the creatures began to emerge from their holes.

dakota The kittypet snorted and turned away. She sat down, rasping her small pink tongue over her already-neat cream fur. The warmth of the sun seeping through the treetops onto her back made her feel drowsy. She padded to a soft pile of forest moss and curled up. Sleep soon dragged her down with it's warm, soft paws. She began to dream, her chocolate coloured paws lightly slapping the bank of a river, where she was chasing an opal-coloured butterfly. It was a great dream, the best she'd ever had. Until...
Dakota blinked her sapphire eyes open. The forest was pitch-black, rife with shadows. She swallowed nervously. The loud rustling that had woken her up sounded again, making her jump. Don't be such a baby, Dakota! She scolded herself fiercely, and put her sharp mind to use. Even if she could find her way home in this darkness, she'd get such a telling off from Tala. But she couldn't stay here, not with that weird rustling noise. Dakota took a deep breath. The scent of that strange tom was still there. He wouldn't have been going anywhere dangerous... She decided to follow the dregs of his scent, her paws patting the grass lightly.

a bullet for your ♥ valentine ♥ Ashthief Haunting trees spread their skeletal wings out overhead, half-blocking out the moon that lurked over the treetops. Ashthief sat in hollowed-out log, chewing contemplatively on a piece of mouse. He didn't bury his food when he was done, merely standing up onto his stilt-like legs and walking away. Not a thought crossed his mind about the bratty kittypet.
He yawned widely and ran a groomed paw over his angular face, cleaning the pieces of mouse fur that still clung to his whiskers and muzzle. He showed no fear of the forest as he walked imperiously through it, his stoic expression never changing.
A twig suddenly cracked, and instantly, he was on his guard. Ashthief narrowed his eyes, unsheathing his claws.

dakota Dakota crept through the dark forest, swallowing nervously. She tried to push down her fear. She knew that there were cats who lived here, twenty four seven. And she was scared of wandering alone at night? How old are you? she asked herself furiously. The cream coloured she-cat stopped suddenly as something moved up ahead. She slunk forward, poking her head through the end of of a hollow log. Something long and thin, like a snake, dragged out of the space then disappeared. The kittypet padded boldly into the log and padded through it. She poked her head out the end. Nothing was there.
Dakota scampered on. She heard a sudden chink and a rustling of leaves. The kittypet turned around, disorientated, then crashed headlong into Ashtheif. The she-cat rolled over and over in the leaf mould, winded, then scrambled upright, winded. She puffed of her chest and let her fur bristle, arched her back and raised her tail to make herself look as big as possible. "Go away, or I'll... Rip your tail off!" It didn't occur to her that the creature might not have a tail, but she watched, still hissing, to see if it had been suitably chastised.

a bullet for your ♥ valentine ♥ Ashthief Ashthief blinked at what he was seeing and hearing, and then let out a heavy sigh. Her again...
The tom grunted, a scowl deepening on his angular face. "You should go home, girl," he said coldly, his tail flickering when he heard the she-cat's pathetic threat to cut it off. The blue-black tom swatted at her in annoyance. He had caused her to lose his kill.
He glared down at her sternly. "Go home." That time it was an order.

dakota Dakota hissed in fear and anger, her blue eyes narrowed. Then a pool of moonlight hit the creature before her. She relaxed a little. It was only that pompous fuzzball she had encountered earlier. The kittypet rasped her tongue over her ruffled cream-coloured fur a couple of times, before turning furious sapphire eyes on the grey-black tom. "You idiot! I thought you were a badger!" she lashed her tail at him. At his words, she shook her head fiercely. She wasn't about to admit that she had no idea how to get home, so instead she decided to revert back to her favourite hobby. Arguing.
"No," she mewed boldly. She ducked away from his paw as he swatted at her. "Go away, I'm not effecting you." Dakota dragged some dead leaves together to form a makeshift nest then sat in it pointedly, beginning to groom her pelt.

a bullet for your ♥ valentine ♥ Ashthief You're being horribly annoying, he wanted to say but he held his tongue. The long-legged tom rolled his yellow-green eyes and turned away from her, tail flicking side to side. He decided that he needed to hunt elsewhere or else she'd scare off the prey before someone came and killed her off.
Ashthief sniffed the air and soon found some food. He lunged and pinned the mouse to the ground, biting it in the neck and devouring it. If she was going to stay by his nest, she'd attract every killer around for miles. He really didn't feel like saving her tail. However, he needed his nest until he found another place to stay. He'd have to deal with the brat for now.
He returned to the fallen log a few minutes later with mice hanging from his maw by their tails and sat them under some compost that he had marked as his. He grunted and ignored her some more, noticing that she hadn't left. She was probably lost.
