His paws tapped the ground lightly, his long, white legs sticking out amongst the musky trees. Spectrumflash wove his way around the territory of his home-clan, his blue eyes turning from side to side. The grey and white tom was patrolling the borders. The young warrior peered up at the sky with a smile; spring was approaching, and soon the sun would return. The warm days would lengthen and the cold nights shorten. Spectrumflash padded around the clump of ash trees that marked Serenity Falls. Though he had seen the great silver appiration many times, the waterfall still took his breath away. Spectrumflash trotted into the clearing, drinking in the clean air. That was when it hit him.
It was like two clawed paws, striking his side. Spectrumflash was knocked over sideways with a frightened yowl. He unsheathed his hooked silver claws, grey and white fur bristling, blue eyes flashing with anger. Intruder! The young tom sprang to his paws, blood dripping from his flank. He cursed himself for letting the intruder creep up on him - but then again. he had smelt nothing... Strange. It struck again, this time the claws slashing his left ear. Spectrumflash reared back in surprise, eyes widening. Wait, had there actually been anything there...? There must've been... His ear was dripping blood.
It stood before him, and as the sun reflected off ots transparent flanks, Spectrumflash gasped. It was a cat, a ghostly cat. A cloud of clear vapour hung like an aura around it, and only one part of it seemed real it's scarlet eyes. Spectrumflash recognized the face; Shadestar. The grey and white tom lashed out with a clawed forepaw, but his snowy paw swung through thin air. The tom stumbled backward. He should've ripped open her chest... Was he dreaming? What was this? Blind panic filled him as Shadestar sprang again with inhuman speed.
Her claws struck his throat, once, twice, three times. He fell back with a loud, pained yowl. Then she was gone, melting away into the shadows. Spectrumflash twisted on the grass, blood spilling rapidly from his wounds. His vision was wavering, his breath laboured. Confusion was lodged in his brain, and his blue eyes were filled with pure, untouched terror. He was going to die... He was going to die... Spectrumflash twisted in agony, though his strength was leaving him.
It wasn't a dream. It was a nightmare.

&& contraria contrariis curantur Her presence was empyreal, with light footsteps. This was odd due to the fact she was a bit heavy-set. Her fluffy white, gray, and black pelt shifted constantly as she walked, almost a swish swish noise. Her footsteps were silent among parts of the landscape. "Spectrumflash, you could have said something if you were going out on a hunt," Solsticesong murmured as she pushed past some leafy undergrowth. The scent of blood criss-crossed her senses, and her tail twitched. She turned her head and saw him. Her hazel eyes widened and she ran over to the fallen tomcat. She sighed slightly, not about to panic over something she couldn't fix and if she moved him, it would get worse. The massive femme sat by Spectrumflash's side and spat out the leaf that was in her mouth. It was snatched by one of the falls' large sprays. She turned her head back down to him. "What happened here, Spectrumflash?" she asked quietly, resting a gentle paw on his ear. She wanted to soothe him, to make him calm on his way home. && the opposite is cured with the opposite [/sup]

What had happened? What had happened...? Spectrumflash's bloodstained white paws worked in the grass, only becoming more covered. His eyes were wide, his mouth slightly open. He gave a small gasping noise as Solsticesong appeared over, then seemed to relax, his tattered body sinking against the ground. He barely felt her paw on his ears, though her voice seemed loud to him. He felt as though something were tugging at his heart, his soul, his insides, trying to steal him away. Spectrumflash shut his eyes, pulling himdelf back, his sides heaving. "Something... Something was there.." his voice was desperate, breathless. "Couldn't see... Too fast... It's eyes.. Like... Like blood..." Spectrumflash felt pain clutch at him again and he gave a whimper, which ended in a long, drawn breath. His madly wide blue eyes, which had been do happy and carefree only a moment ago, were fixed on Solsticesong, seeking, begging...

"Spectrumflash, calm down...," Solsticesong growled, her voice a thunderclap in the distance. She tried to keep him together or else he'd simply fall apart. "It was this Tribe that Amethyststar had talked about." The massive she-cat frowned slightly and brushed her paw against Spectrumflash's head and ears.
Her claws unsheathed slightly and, for a brief moment, she considered ending Spectrumflash's suffering. It pained her seeing him writhe like that, but she sighed again and put her paw down.
"I cannot do anything to save you, Spectrumflash. Camp is too far away," she said quietly. "I will stay here...by your side." The large femme lowered herself onto her stomach, resting her head onto the male. "I will protect you from the nightmares the best I can." Her claws did not go back to their scabbards. She would fight this Tribe for Spectrumflash's sake, the best she knew how.

Spectrumflash swallowed, giving a tiny nod that seemed to send painful waves through his entire body. The tattered grey and white tom let his head fall onto the grass, still breathing irregularly, his blue eyes wider than ever. Thoughts flitted through his mind of ghostly wings; of Scarletpetal and Glacierstripe, of his mother, of his father... Spectrumflash shut his eyes, his mouth closing. Would he join Jinxdancer and Ebonysky in StarClan? This comforting thought tugged him deeper into darkness. A breif moment of agony shot through him, until he felt nothing, and his candle burnt out.
He was gone.

Her head stilled from her place on him. He was no longer breathing. Solsticesong lifted up her head and sighed heavily, coming to her large paws. She murmured a blessing to Spectrumflash's fallen form and squared up her shoulders, her fangs knotting in the tom's pelt as she hoisted him onto her back. His weight sank upon her but she did not protest. The she-cat turned and began trudging away.
"Spectrumflash, you were a marvelous warrior. I miss you already but I hope you are greeted with open paws in the place we call StarClan," she said quietly.
She returned to concentrating on her steps so that she would not slip and have both of them crash to the ground. She would make it home.
