Cambriankit And Shepherds we shall be For thee, my Lord, for thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti. Silence snatched his delicate pawsteps away. The white socks padded forward, ending the long-limbed pistons that held up the male's frame. He peered into the elder's den, blinking irises the hue of a newborn cyclone. He perked his harks forward, tail waving side to side as he slowly entered the earthy home of the veterans of MoonClan. Spying Pearlblade, he mewed almost inaudibly and trotted towards her form. The brown tabby nudged her head away from her paws and nestled his small body in that newfound crevice.
Cambriankit rested his chin on his tiny paws, purring slightly as he was enveloped in the elder's warmth. His short tail flopped over the she-cat's forelegs, flickering slightly until the tomkit went to found himself comfortable and at peace. His stormy eyes closed, darkening as their shades progressed lower.

The wind was cold as it stirred the thinning fur on Pearlblade's back. The elderly she-cat rested her chin on her forepaws, her skinny sides sucking in and out as she exhaled deeply. The she-cat's ribs stuck out like bare twigs as she did so. The elder's mind was rife with anxiety. She thought of her daughters, Ravenclaw and Spectreflame, fighting in a battle she was so sure was pointless. Pearlblade could scent the eerie stench of death even from here. The pale-coloured she-cat swallowed, trying not to imagine her dead clanmates. She knew that, when the clan returned, their number would have dwindled.
Pearlblade blinked open her ice-blue eyes as she felt something nudge her cheek. The elder felt warmth flood her chest as Cambriankit squeezed his way in between her paws. The she-cat licked him gently between the ears, shuffling her paws slightly to make him more comfortable to hold. Pearlblade rested her head on the bare earth beside her paws, next to the kit's. She shut her eyes again, content to lay with the kit sandwiched between her paws. She was well known for this - there when you needed to be comforted, not questioned, ready to offer you sanctuary without pressing you.

The tall-legged tomkit purred and licked under the elder's jaw comfortingly. "Pearlblade...," he said softly. His voice was hoarse-sounding and a bit rough from disuse. "Can you tell me a story?" For a cat who rarely spoke or smiled, this was quite a feat for him to try to get Pearlblade's mind off of her children. He was no naive kitten that went day to day without observing others. He understood the grave situation and Pearlblade's anxiety about her daughters. Cambriankit missed Crestedfire the most. He always played with the bumbling tomcat who towered over everyone in the camp. He hoped the ginger was okay.
His stormy eyes glinted as he turned them upwards to look up at Pearlblade, mewing calmly. The tomcat did not speak again after his sentence of seven words from before. He was still a bit sleepy, but would be most content if Pearlblade would like to tell him a tale.

Pearlblade opened her eyes again, exhaling deeply. The she-cat blinked fondly at Cambriankit, her old maternal instincts rising despite her elderly age. The elder stretched her forelegs out, being careful not to jostle the little tom. Pearlblade flicked back her ears, licking her lips. "Moons ago, before the the clans existed," she mewed softly, her eyes still closed. "There were three great clans of big cats, wild creatures five times of the size of the biggest warrior. TigerClan, great orange cats with stripes as black as the night in which they hunted. LeopardClan, the swiftest cats, with spotted yellow pelts like the sun dappling the earth. And LionClan, cats as golden as the sun, with rippling manes of thick fur."
"Now LionClan and LeopardClan had had a disagreement. The LeopardClan leader, Swiftstar, accused LionClan of stealing a litter of kits from them. The proud LionClanners were furious at the accusation. A fight ensued, a fight so bloody and vicious that many cats were killed. The grass was red with blood, and littered with bodies." Pearlblade paused, rasping her tongue over one paw. "And suddenly, a torrent of rain rushed from the skies, rain like no clan had ever seen before. The LionClanners were encircled by a rushing ring of water. StarClan had split them apart to prevent the fight going on. But the rain didn't stop, forming a churning silver thread across the land." Pearlblade opened her ice blue eyes. "And so, the river was formed."

In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti. Cambriankit meowed happily at being told a story and pricked his harks forward to listen. As Pearlblade told the tale, the long-legged male's mind began to conjure the scenario in his head. He pictured these massive creatures with stripes, spots, and manes, painting their figures upon a landscape of blood and death. Then came the rain, washing it all away and separating the fighting Clans.
"Maybe...StarClan could send a river between MoonClan and EclipseClan," Cambriankit said quietly, resting his head on his paws. He had heard lots of stories of the fights between his Clan and EclipseClan. "Or between this scary Tribe and us." He fell silent and sighed heavily, nuzzling Pearlblade's foreleg with a sleepy meow.
"I'm frightened...," the gray-eyed tomkit admitted, turning those cloudy orbs up to the elder. He rarely talked but when he did the most, it was with her.
