A slender shape drifted noiselessly from the nursery on velvet paws, squinting in the bright sunlight to see with still improving eyesight and wishing she could flick her tail. No, wishing she had a tail. She was lucky to be alive, honestly, and the kit knew it with all of her tentative heart. Her mottled fur shone in different places, mostly the black, the ginger and white fur just add-ons, making her look stranger than she already did. She sat down slowly and looked around, not really registering what she saw. Her mind was drifting. It was a problem she had, a drifting mind. She tended to think so much that she threw herself into mindless panic or just distress, but now, it was mostly fear. And you couldn't blame her. She closed her eyes briefly, remembering a terrible and wonderful dream... There had been a gray tabby tom: Rivermagic, she thought. He had warned her about something that made no sense to her, about nightmares and myths and sun and cold and heat all in the same place. She shuddered. Wherever that was, she didn't want to see it. She could remember everything clearly, but she was trying not to. Something up in StarClan was keeping the prophecy in her mind. I'm not a medicine cat, why are they telling me?[/i] she wondered, blinking puzzledly and wishing for a distraction of some sort.

The nursery was the safest place at the moment, in Corbynkit's case. He didn't want to be anywhere near his mother. The smoky black kit shuddered as he wondered what horrific fate had befallen his sister Selenekit. He knew that Amethyststar was lying. A fox wouldn't have attacked a strong warrior like herself, alone, and especially in broad daylight. Corbynkit knew his mother was mixed up, in a dark, sinister way, in his sister's disappearamce. Corbynkit licked a small, smoky paw, drawing it slowly over his muzzle. It did not comfort him. The dark kit jumped, his tail jolting erect, as he caught sight of Mottledkit's rich, glossy dappled pelt outside the nursery. His unsheathed his claws, scratching at the grass. The other kit looked troubled, to. I wish I was like her, Corbynkit thought. No parents. Bliss.

Mottledkit glanced over at Corbynkit with mixed emotions. He seemed confused, sad, and even slightly lonely. She didn't think of bothering him, but then she remembered that Selenekit had just died. A wave of pity overwhelmed her and her stomach did an annoying nosedive. Before she knew what was happening, she was padding over to sit next to him, her eyes clouded with sympathy.
She sat next to him in a daze, ready to comfort him but not quite ready to speak. Someone didn't want her in her comfort zone today. "I'm sorry about Selenekit, Corbynkit. I know I'll miss her. This wasn't ture, considering she only had Yewkit as a friend.

Corbynkit looked away. The black kit's eyes were narrowed and his tail twitched in agitation. He was naturally antisocial, and the only conversations he ever got into ended in arguments. "You never liked her," Corbynkit replied, his voice sharp. "You've never liked me, either." He hated her sympathy, because he knew she woulen't ever truly miss his sister. They were alike really, both outsiders. Corbynkit shook his head from side to side. "Besides, everyone dies someday."

Mottledkit wasn't suprised at his sharp reply, but her ears tilted back somewhat. She looked away, too, but she didn't move. "You're right. I wish I could've known her better. I don't want-" to be alone, she finished in her mind. She wanted more of what normal clan cats had- friends, family, a mate, and a normal life. She and Corbynkit would never have that. Maturity beyond her age overwhelmed her, and she felt a fleeting need to move[/i] .
She stood up and glanced at the Clan exit. Camp was virtually empty. But where was she going? Would StarClan guide her, or would she have to be on her own again? She glanced up at the sky, blue and unfeeling. A cloud moved away, and the sun glared down on her. She winced and turned to Corbynkit. "I-I've gotta go. I don't know where- I just-" She ran. Out of camp, without waiting for Corbynkit to tell her not to, that they were just kits. Her ears whisked back as the wind blew in her face, and she felt her eyes start to water. What was[/i] she doing?

Corbynkit watched the tortoiseshell kit flee from camp curiously, his icy blue eyes narrowed. Oh well, he thought. She'll be back by sunhigh. It's too scary out there for the likes of her. The black kit licked a paw and began to wash his face, thoughts drifting from Mottledkit to Selenekit. He sighed outwardly. He really would miss her, and he didn't ant anyone else to intrude on his grief.
