Night had fallen. The fingers of creeping ebony at finally won the war against the bright gold shimmer of twilight, and the sun had set into its nest of cloud. The sky shone a deep black, while Silverpelt glimmered high among the dark clouds. Each StarClan warrior had assembled to watch over their own clan. The eerie silver glow of the moon cast a sheen over the gloomy clearing that was the EclipseClan camp, illuminating every minute detail. The fern dens, the sheltered corners, and the great black tooth of rock that stood in the centre of the camp. The Shaderock. The monlight played upon the smooth surface of the shard, making white spots of light dance upon the grass.
A black shadow was travelling slowly across the clearing from one such sheltered corner. It was not obvious that this shadow was, in fact, a warrior, until you noticed the two pricks of dark amber. he she-cat made her way towards the Shaderock, her small frame swathed in black fur and strong muscles. Her shoulders were broad and her legs wiry and strong. Her eyes were two deep pools of burning fire, and her tail flicked slowly back and forth as if she were about to pounce. The she-cat stopped by the side of the great pointed rock, touching her nose to the cool surface, before leaping and clawing her way to the top. "May all those cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Shaderock for a clan meeting!"
Her voice was strong and bold, and rang out across the clearing. Immediatly cats began to appear. Amethyststar watched her clan emerge from their dens. Pantherstealth had just returned to camp, so joined the crowd, sitting beside Scrawltale, how supported Gillwing. Spectrumflash poked his head out from between the ferns of the medicine den, though his limbs were too tired for him to walk. Corbynkit peered out from the nursery, only his wide eyes visible against the gloom. Beacanpaw staggered from the medicine den with Sunpaw, his flnks swathed in cobwebs.
"EclipseClan!" yowled Amethyststar. "It is time we appointed two new warriors!" The black she-cat looked down at Beacanpaw and Sunpaw. "I, Amethyststar, leader of EclipseClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on these apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as warriors in their turn." Amethyststar turned her amber eyes onto Sunpaw. "Sunpaw, from this moment onwards you shall be known as Sunheart. The clan honours your loyalty and your compassion, and we welcome you as a full warrior of EclipseClan." Amethyststar turned to Beacanpaw, who looked excited despite the pain he was in. "Beacanpaw, from his moment on you shall be known as Beacansong. The clan honours your bravery and your forethought and we welcome you as a dull warrior of EclipseClan."
Amethyststar paused to let the clan chnt the names of the new warriors. Beacansong touched his nose to his sister's flank in congratulations, while Scrawltale purred happily at her kits. "Beacansong, Sunheart, you will spend tonight guarding the camp, keeping a vigil of silence and reflecting on your new name and status." Amethyststar looked down at Gillwing. "Before we go on," she yowled. "I want to thank Beacansong, Gillwing, Razortomb, Spicetalon and Scrawltale for their bravery this afternoon." The black she-cat turned to a smaller cat. "Finally, Silentpaw is without a mentor," she meowed. "Gillwing, you will mentor Silentpaw. I hope you will pass down all that I taught you." Amethyststar ducked her head. The meeting was over. She leapt down from the Shaderock and slipped into her den.
