Dusk was spreading over the sky, sending spurts of colour to erase the pale azure of day. Streaks of scarlet, amber, violet and lilac splashed over the clouds, and the sun spread bloody rays around it as if it too had battled today. It slowly sank beneath a fat cloud, but the majesty of twilight remained, a still picture of day's last stand against the blackness of night. The EclipseClan camp was awash in orange light, the leaves reflecting the amber glow onto the springy grass. Cats crouched here and there, some tearing at fresh kill, others calmly sharing tongues as they spread the news of the day. Most seemed to be talking about the same thing; the fight with MoonClan.
Beacanpaw crouched at the entrance to the medicine den. His limbs shook with exhaustion and blood still dripped down his body, though most of it had dried to an unappealing maroon crust. His mother had told him to wait here for Littlefox. THe pprentice swayed on his paws, his sight blurred by pain. He wondered how his mother and Spicetalon were doing. He hoped hat they had aved Gillwing; he had not left the young warrior alone that long by himself. But the MoonClan cats had been formidable fighters; who knows what had happened? Beacanpaw let out a sob of desperation. If Gillwing was dead, he would not rest until he had destroyed MoonClan; one by one.
The apprentice's eyes pricked as three cats entered the camp. His yellow eyes widened with relief. It was Scrawltale and Spicetalon. And Gillwing was with them! The apprentice hobbled over to them, ignoring the pain that tore through his limbs. His mother was supporting Gillwing. "I'm sorry I left you," Beacanpaw rasped, his eyes sorrowful and filled with guilt. "I'm glad your okay." Scrawltale touched noses gently with her injured son. "It's okay. He understands." Beacanpaw felt like a tiny kit again, an wanted to wail his pain to his mother and press into her soft belly. But there was no such luck. Not any more. They needed Littlefox and Amethyststar at the moment, more than anything else.

Fernpelt padded into camp, jaws full of prey. She put it on the kill pile and scanned the clearing for her apprentice. She wanted to take him for a battle training session tomorrow. She suddenly sighted him by Littlefox's den, injured. She sprinted over to him and skidded to a halt. 'Becanpaw! What happened?' she asked, not knowing anything about the battle.

Gillwing managed a purr as he looked at the apprentice. "You know me, I'm as tough as a badger." It came out all raspy, like he was really ill, but he was fine. For now.
Spicetalon nodded and slipped away to find Amethyststar.
Littlefox ran to the apprentice and warrior. "Into my den you two," She meowed.

Beacanpaw turned his neck, wincing as pain shot through his body at the simple movement. His yellow eyes gleamed as he spotted Fernpelt. "Long story," he rasped, looking at his paws. "To cut it short, MoonClan were on our territory." Beacanpaw dipped his head gratefully to Littlefox, and limped into her den. He slumped down in the grass, head lolling to one side, as he entered the shelter of the medicine den. "Check Gillwing first," he mewed breathlessly, sounding as if he had run to Jay's Hollow and back. The apprentice began to lick the blood from a gash on his shoulder, wincing all the while.
Scrawltale pressed up against Gillwing, before following Littlefox and her son into the medicine den. The she-cat let the injured warrior lean on her. Scrawltale could feel a cut stinging above her eye, but ignored the pain. She knew it was nothing compared to what Gillwing and Beacanpaw were feeling at the moment. She felt pride well up inside of her. Her son was so brave. Good, she thought, as her deep yellow eyes followed Spicetalon's course to Amethyststar's den. We need our leader at the moment.
Amethyststar looked up as Spicetalon entered her den. Her black coat gleamed, as if she had groomed it recently, and her dark amber eyes had regained the flame of life that they had once held. The small black she-cat got to her paws and padded closer to her brother, touching her nose gently to the silver-grey tabby's. "What is it, Spicetalon?" she asked the warrior, eyes narrowed slightly. "Is something wrong? Have MoonClan attacked?" Her dark fur bristled.

"That's ironic. Moonclan was on our territory, but we chased them off. Gillwing and Beacanpaw have been pretty beat up, but I think they'll live. Beacanpaw fought like a warrior. I think he deserves to become a warrior now." Spicetalon meowed.
Gillwing blinked gratefully at Scrawltale before slumping to the ground.
Littlefox gasped. "My, my!" She exclaimed, rushing to the warrior. She realized that his wounds were deep, but not fatal, and she patched them up quickly. Then she set to work on Beacanpaw.

Beacanpaw felt a little better as Littlefox set about patching him up. The apprentice looked over at Gillwing. "Good fight," he mewed to his friend. "You fought great." The tom looked up at the sky, wondering what had become of the MoonClanners. He hoped that the white she-cat had died of her wounds; she deserved to. She had started it, after all. Beacanpaw hissed under his breath. He would get revenge on those two. Beacanpaw suddenly remembered that Razortomb had been at the battle breifly. He had not returned with them. "Where's Razortomb?" he mewed urgently, sitting bolt upright. His injuries stung like fire and he slumped down again, but his yellow eyes still burnt with anxiety.
Scrawltale shook herself and peered out between the ferns. She could see Spicetalon speaking with her mother. The black she-cat looked aggrivated. Scrawltale shook her head. At least Amethyststar was back to her normal self now. Strange how she's better after Selenekit's death, the she-cat thought. She remembered being told that Amethyststar had ordered Corbynkit to be taken care of by another queen. Scrawltale felt a wave of sympathy for the unloved kit, and knew she should talk to her half brother.
Amethyststar sank her claws breifly into the earth, her amber eyes bright with fury. "How dare they!" she spat. The black cat calmed a little at her brother's words, and noticed for the first time the cuts along Spicetalon's flanks. "You fought, too," she mewed softly, touching her nose to the grey tabby's shoulder. Amethyststar nodded in approval. "Yes. It is time Beacanpaw and Sunpaw were made warriors. And Silentpaw needs a mentor..." The black cat trailed off.

"Yes I did. And they ran screamin when my patrol showed up." He smiled teasingly. "Gillwing doesn't have an apprentice, and he's shown himself worthy..." Spicetalon meowed.
Gillwing smiled at the apprentice. "As did you," he nodded.
Littlefox met the apprentice's eyes. "I've treated him already." She nodded.

Beacanpaw relaxed. "Oh, okay," he mewed. The tom smiled at Gillwing. "Not as well as you! You held them off while I went for reinforcements!" The apprentice flicked his tail lightly on his friend's shoulder. Beacanpaw looked up at the sky and wondered what the future held for him. He purred with amusement. He knew that now he would bear another set of scars, patterns that told stories of the battles he had fought in.
Amethyststar twitched her ears in agreement. "Yes," she murmured. "Gillwing will make a fine mentor." The black she-cat flicked her tail, before padding briskly over to the medicine den. She slipped inside. Amethyststar touched noses with her daughter and smiled at Gillwing and Beacanpaw. "It sounds like you two have been busy," she purred. "Well done." The she-cat looked at Gillwing. "Gillwing, you have shown yourself to be an excellent warrior tonight. Would you like o mentor Silentpaw?"

"Alright... I shall leave you be then, sis," Spicetalon smiled and left her den.
Gillwing looked at Beacanpaw. "You fought like a warrior. Oh, Amethyststar! Of course I would love to be mentor to Silentpaw!" He began to purr.

Sunpaw exploded onto the scene worriedly. "Beacanpaw! I heard you'd been--," she began and then her jaw dropped at the sight of many warriors and even Amethyststar there. "Oh..I...um...pardon me." The Rex she-cat silently backed up, wanting to crawl into a corner and mewl for her rudeness. She had probably scared Beacanpaw to death, plus with his deep injuries. "Littlefox, will they be okay?" Sunpaw squeaked out. "I saw them leave with Razortomb, but now this..."

Beacanpaw purred with pleasure. He was glad his friend was being given an apprentice. He deserved it. The tom jumped at the sound of a frantic mew, but relaxed when he recognized Sunpaw. "Hi, Sunpaw," he mewed, his voice weary. "Yeah, I've been in a fight." The tom smiled lopsidedly at his sister, then turned his attention back to Amethyststar.
Amethyststar nodded. "Good," the black she-cat looked at Sunpaw. "Sunpaw, could you help Beacanpaw? Scrawltale, you help Gillwing." Amethyststar looked at Littlefox. "There's a ceremony I need to perform." Her amber eyes said, you can have them back when I'm done. Amethyststar turned and padded back into the clearing.
Scrawltale dipped her head and helped Gillwing up. She gently nosed him to his paws, then let him lean on her side again. She hoped he felt stronger now, not because he was a burden, but because she genuinely worried about him. The brown she-cat helped Gillwing into he clearing after Amethyststar, hoping that today was the day...

Gillwing smiled at Scrawltale as she helped him out into the clearing.
"All right! But don't be rough with them!" Littlefox called out after them.

Sunpaw touched noses with Beacanpaw. "Okay, Amethyststar," she replied cheerily, happy that she wasn't scolded for interrupting. "Beacanpaw, I'm sure Littlefox will patch you up back to normal. You'll be able to take on even a badger once you get better!" she praised. She licked his muzzle gently and then crinkled up her face. "You smell like MoonClan for some reason...," she whispered, hastily trying to cleanse him of it. "Was that who you fought? Do you think they'll be angry at EclipseClan?" The she-cat apprentice frowned sadly and shook her head. "Nevermind, Beacanpaw, just rest..."
