((Anyone can play the fox[es] as needed))
Rustling grass. Crunching leaves. Calling birds. She thundered all past them, paws cast of ivory and sable granite depressing her memory into the loam. Feathers and particles of dust flew past her nose. "Kits! Hurry!" Aurora yowled, trying to escape the hungry fox that sprinted after them. Streaks of black and white contested with red and gray as the loner sought to outrun the fox.
Lunging off of a tree, Aurora turned and launched her body onto the frame of the fox, snarling and meowing furiously. Claws ripped and torn out hair until the fox finally threw her off. She hastily got to her paws, but the fox charged her and knocked her into a patch of ferns. Deciding that the she-cat put up too much of a fight, it decided to go after one of the kits. With a loud yowl, Aurora bounded off of the fern to slam into the creature, but it kicked her aside, sniffing around for the kits.

[drop] dead .let. go and (fly) away
Fear pounded through her veins, churning her blood. Her light brown tabby fur was bristling, and her paws so muddy that it was barely possible to tell that they were snowy white. Her eyes, like two sapphires, were swimming with terror. Pecankit was fleeing from the foxes with the others, though she was falling behind. Her legs were still too short for flight like this. Her mind raced with images; Leopardflight grooming her; Runespell helping her when she stumbled; Mousekit and Hazelkit scampering around her, desperate to play; Grainkit and Ryekit watching, all dignity and poise; Stormprowler, his wise old eyes sparkling, and Kestrelfeather, peering down from StarClan, her pelt shimmering... Pecankit began to sob; was she going to die, too?

Mottledkit, breathing heavily, appeared behind the smaller kit, one paw bleeding. A sharp rock as they sped down the granite slabs had cut her- it stung, but she didn't care. She glaned at Pecankit, who promptly began sobbing, and at Aurora. How would they get out of this?
She could now identify the fox scent- but puzzlingly, she scented two. She turned to look behind her, and tried to cry out- there was another fox! This one a male, the other's mate, she guessed- and just as hungry. It had been stalking them, primarily Pecankit, slowly- but as it noticed her gaping and trying to warn her tabby friend, it leaped. At Pecankit's exposed back. Something gripped the calico kit like nothing she'd ever felt before- battle lust, as it was. Powered by fear and adrenilene, she leaped in front of the collision course, arched her back, and hissed.
All to no avail. The fox landed short and snarled, and Mottledkit suddenly leaped at him- the way a cyote does at a hare. She felt her claws come out in mid-air, as if time was frozen, and saw Pecankit behind her out of the corners of her eyes. Then, she was on something moving quickly- she dug her claws in, and looked down. She had landed on the animal's back. Now, she was firmly attatched. She looked shocked for a moment, but when he nearly rolled over, she bit hard into his scruff, nearly gagging at the crow-food smell and the sweaty taste. Her eyes watered, but she hung on, wondering why she was risking her life for Pecankit and the others'. They were a family. Aurora had been right, once again.
I don't like to suprise myself..

Crystalkit's legs felt like they were screaming at her - telling her to stop, to slow down, anything. But her mind told them to keep going, only a few more fox-lengths. But it never was a few more fox-lengths, and so she had to keep telling her legs over and over to keep running. Crystalkit had never seen a fox. She imagined it to be terrible, horrible, putrid and evil. And here, being chased by hungry foxes, their eyes gleaming like jewels, she decided she was right.
She watched in horror over her shoulder as Mottledkit threw her tiny body on top of the fox. What was she doing?! Crystalkit skidded to a halt, almost stumbling over in the process. She charged over to a horrified Pecankit, her eyes still glued on Mottledkit. Was she going to die for them? No! she told herself, tears filling her eyes in turn. She stood beside Pecankit and watched Aurora and Mottledkit battle the foxes.
Why was she so useless? She could be defending them. She had decided more than once in her mind to go and help, but her body wouldn't move. Her feet seemed rooted to the spot as she watched Mottledkit in all her bravery. Aurora, too, was fighting the foxes.
What was going to happen now?

With a mental scream, Aurora pulled herself up to her paws, lunging at the vix fighting off Mottledkit. Hissing and distracted, it didn't see the tuxedo she-cat until she had slashed her claws straight across his left eye, blinding him. The vix howled in angry agony, thrashing out at both Mottledkit and Aurora to knock them back. The vixen lunged over Aurora to hungrily advance on Pecankit and Crystalkit, but the she-cat would have none of it. From her place on the ground, her teeth yanked down on the vixen's tail, crunching down hard.
The vixen's eyes went wide and she turned around, kicking Aurora on the side of her head. The she-cat let go as she was forced back, rolling away breathlessly. She coughed heavily, trying to force air into her lungs. What was wrong? Why can't I fight the foxes off? I am supposed to be protecting them! I...can't...move! Aurora thought.

Mottledkit was suddenly falling- it was a horrible sensation, and she could do nothing but twist to land on her paws. As she did twist, she saw a scene that she'd been trying to prevent- the fox advancing, half blind and starving, toward Pecankit and Crystalkit. "No!" She heard herself yowl. She landed full on her back. Not the way she'd tried. She was breathless for a little while, but leaped to her feet.
This was a mistake and useless- her bleeding paw hurt sharply, and she fell to the ground again. She cursed loudly and got up more carefully this time. She could do nothing as the fox advanced on her friends, drooling. Or could she? A thought struck her, and her green eyes lit up in sudden idea. A bloodcurdling yowl broke through the air- it was her own. She pretended to fall again, this time breathing heavily and twitching, as if she were dying.
She squeezed one eye a little open, and to her satisfaction, saw that her plan had worked. The fox had turned, and was now coming toward her. Closer, closer- he was about to bite. She screeched, and on three paws leaped at his face. The one bloodied side was the blind one- so she went for the other one, clawing at the good eye with the front legs and holding with one hind leg- the other hung limply. The scarlet animal, howling, batted at her useless leg- and a pain unlike anything she'd felt before engulfed her. She felt a pop- heard a crack- and yelped in pain.
For a second, she could see the fox flinging her off from far away, as if she were a bird watching from above- then she felt herself hit the warm ground- warm and sticky with blood. Her own blood, the fox's and hopefully no others. She could tell her leg was broken, but she strained to look behind her- the fox, now completely blind, was rampaging about the field, bleeding and howling. He could catch no cat now. She felt a welcoming blackness at the edges of her vision, and fought it off dazedly. She tried to speak, struggled, the blackness got closer.

Crystalkit screeched as the fox came nearer, it's crimson face even redder from the blood. It was drooling, and Crystalkit could almost imagine what the fox was thinking : these kittens would be an easy target.
Crystalkit couldn't stand it any longer. As long as she was here, she was going to fight. They would need all five of them to fight these foxes off. The white-pelted she-kit was about to join Mottledkit, but instead ran to Aurora.
"Aurora! Aurora, are you okay?" her voice had reached a high pitch because of her intense worry. Was Aurora going to...
Before Crystalkit could finish this thought, the second fox - not the one Mottledkit was so bravely fighting, but the first one's mate - had began slinking towards her and Aurora. The small and the winded. Clever fox. Crystalkit screeched again, but this time, she ran over to the fox. She began scratching at it's paws, a small defense, but enough for now. How longer could Mottledkit hold off that one with a wounded paw - and, for thatmatter, how long could she hold this one off?

Moonkit dashed with the other kits, foxes on their tails. He was fallinf behind the others. He heard snapping jaws behind him, hot breath on his fur. Suddenly, a jolt of pain shot through his body. He looked over his shoulder. The fox behind him had something in it's mouth, and it was waving it rapidly. Then something else caught his eye. A trail of blood lined his path. The end of his tail was ripped off! He screeched and yowled in pain. He sped up and caught up with the other kits. "The fox!" he panted. "It ate the" --pant-- "end of" --pant, pant-- "my tail!" Moonkit held his tail straight up in a desperite attempt to stop his tail from bleeding.

[whoa] you .stole. me /away/;
"Mottledkit!"
Pecankit's mouth sagged open in a scream of desperation, but no, her voice abandoned her. "No!" She felt rage bubbling up inside of her, rage she had never felt before, rage that shook her from the inside, out. "You hurt my friend!" she yowled, launching her tiny shape at the offending fox. She sank her claws into the thick, fire hued fur, her blue eyes pumping with hatred. She then proceeded to tear out pawfuls of russet coloured fur, her claws occansionally drawing blood, her tears mingling with the scarlet liquid now dotting her fur. "You'll never hurt anyone again!" she hissed, her claws still slashing, her eyes still dripping, her heart still screaming...
Her heart still screaming...

The blackness was closing in quickly. Mottledkit gasped for air- and the haze retreated slightly. Desperate, she gulped the air as quickly as she could. Soon, her vision was clear again. She groaned and rolled onto her stomach, pain shooting through the broken leg. When she looked up, she gasped. Pecankit was tearing at the fox in a fury that Mottledkit didn't think the little kit was capable of. He howled, but he'd lost much blood, and his strength was retreating.
She could only watch in desperation, wishing she could get up and help them. To Shardkit, she screeched, "Help her, come on!" Trying to avoid the sight of his mangled tail. Still, she felt sick and light-headed. But still, she fought to stand. One bleeding paw and a broken leg, she hopped on three limbs toward Aurora, her face set determinedly. She got there in enough time, and nudged the black and white cat with her head impatiently, but worriedly.
"Come on, Aurora! Pecankit needs you. My leg's broken, I can't do anything now, please, please, Aurora, if we ever needed you, now's the time!" Her voice got shriller and higher with her increasing desperation, and she felt herself begin to cry at the end of her sentence. She wanted so badly to rip at the fox, but she knew she couldn't ever help in the state she was in.

Her world was black. Aurora opened her eyes, blinking as she looked around. A phantom-like cat sat in front of her, looking down at her slowly. A human--an old man by the looks of it--stood behind the cat. The cat had an air of a leader to him and when the shimmer died, he was shown to have glossy dark grey fur. "My name is Cormorantstar, former leader of CloudClan," he rumbled, nodding his head to her as she shakenly rose to her feet. Aurora swallowed and exhaled heavily, looking around. "Where am I?" she whispered. "There is no time for that, " Cormorantstar replied curtly. "You are needed by StarClan and by the kits you call family. Were you lying to them?" Aurora's eyes narrowed. "Never!" she yowled, fur bristling up. "Gentle, gentle, my beautiful Aurora," said the old man's quiet voice. "Jonathan!" she said, ochre eyes brightening and shimmering with tears. "Jonathan, I can't do this alone." The man's eyes twinkled kindly as he kneeled with difficulty and stroked her head. "My Aurora, you are never alone..."
"My Aurora, you are never alone..."
"You are never alone..."
"Never alone..."
"Are you going to sit there and die, Aurora?" Cormorantstar demanded. "Will you stand and fight? Will you rise?" She turned to the leader, nodding. "I will always fight!" she declared. "Then go!" snapped Cormorantstar. "And may StarClan go with you!" ~:~:~:~
"GET AWAY FROM THEM!" Aurora roared, standing bitterly to her feet. She was panting heavily, her eyes darkened until she turned them to defiantly stand down the vixen. She nodded to the kits to show she was all right. "You've made a grave mistake..." The fox hissed and tossed off its enemies clinging in fury to its pelt as Aurora advanced.
She turned to Crystalkit with a faint smile. "You and Selenekit take the others to safety. Make sure Moonkit, Mottledkit, and Pecankit stop bleeding. Find cobwebs. Then set Mottledkit's leg by coating it with mud after straightening it. Do you understand me?" the black and white she-cat asked. "They are relying on you." Without turning back, Aurora turned with a toothy bloody smile.
"We are not puppets to be played with by strings! We are warriors of StarClan!!!" came the battle cry.

;- someone's lifeLuckily, Crystalkit was smaller and swifter than the fox, or she may have never gotten away, or at least without injury. She had been fighting the fox for a while now, and was beginning to grow tired - but she wouldn't give up. No way.
When Aurora woke up, Crystalkit continued scratching at the fox - until Aurora told her to get the others to safety. How would she do that? She decided not to worry - quite a hard task, for her - and nodded 'yes' to Aurora. Mottledkit had managed to get over to her, despite the injuries she had suffered, so Crystalkit helped her up quickly as Aurora let out a staggering battlecry. Where would be safe from those foxes? And where could they find cobweb?
"Mottledkit, are you okay?" she asked, still looking around for two things - the others, and a place to hide. in my hands? &&+

Pecankit gave a squeal as the fox shook her off. The kit hit he ground and gasped. She pushed herself into a sitting position, though she felt dizzy and light-headed. The tabby kitten felt a sharp pain on her left shoulder, and turned to look. "Oh!" Her voice was quiet and strained. Her shoulder had been torn open, somewhere in the fray. It was bleeding gently, blood dripping down her striped foreleg. The skin around it was stained scarlet and a chink of white bone was visible fast the ripped skin. Pecankit felt a sense of deep horror as she stared down at the wound. She felt as though she had been forced into warriorhood too early. Mottledkit! She suddenly remembered her friend. Despite her injury, Pecankit wrenched herself to her paws and limped rapidly over to her tortoiseshell friend. "Mottledkit," she breathed. Her leg gave way as she reached Mottledkit, the blood coming now faster than before, but all she cared about was whether her friends were alright.

[Sneaking on and if im caught im in so much trouble, I would have been here sooner but I forgot to mention I would be away on vacatons for a bit]
Selenekit came through as the battle was near over, she rushed over to where Pecankit lay beside Mottledkit. Her eyes looked over both of them, they weren't prepared for this sort of thing. Are you two oing to be okay? she asked in soft tones. She would hate to see them injured when they had been set out to do this togther. As long as they were okay then her mind would lay at rest, or she wouldnt be so frantic anyways. She cast a gance to Moonkit but she wanted to make sure Mottledkit and Pecankit were alright. Maybe they werent related by blood, but in their minds they could be family, right? it would only make the journey easier if they got along.
