skytomb The sun was setting. It was beautiful, red streaks spilling across the sky, like blood through water. Skytomb watched the sky from within the elders' den. For a few suns, he had not left his nest. The moss was feeling softer with every passing day. Skytomb heaved a sigh, the sound like wind going through creaky old branches. The blue-grey tom shifted, wincing slightly. Life was so difficult for him now. He had lived for so long, seen so much. He had fathered so many kits, lost some. He even had grandkits now. The elderly tom shut his eyes, picturing all the cats he cared about, or had cared about, in his life.
There was of course, his Icelily. His beautiful Icelily. He could sense that her time was coming, too. At least they would be leaving this world together. Skytomb felt his heart swell as he pictured his mate's face. Though both were older, he still adored her as much as he had done in his younger moons.
Then there was his daughters. From their first litter, Dragonflydance, Pixiemagic and Littleshine. Pixiemagic and Littleshine had not lived long past their warrior ceremonies. His poor kits. And of course, Dragonflydance had been CloudClan's medicine cat for moons on end, until her recent, untimely death. From their second litter, Haloheart and Flightpaw. Flightpaw, his poor little butterfly. She had died as an apprentice. Haloheart still breathed, though, and of course was the mother of his grandkits, Cootpaw, Tinypaw, Coconutpaw and Myrtlepaw. And finally, from their third litter, Stripedfeather, who was still a young warrior with all of her life ahead of her.
And of course, his sons. From their first litter, Midnightsky. His oldest living kit, and the only kit still alive from their first litter. His faithful son. He knew that Midnightsky would look after his siblings after they left. From their second litter, Shoalpaw, Rushpaw and Cloakedclaw. Rushpaw, Flightpaw's twin, had also died as a youngster. Skytomb felt his heart ache as he remembered the lost twins. Shoalpaw had disappeared late in his apprenticeship, and never been seen again. Cloakedclaw was still living, though, and was also a father. The father of Tansyfrost, Dapplecharm and Frostfoot. And of course, Tansyfrost had her own kits, now...
Skytomb felt his vision wavering. The blue-grey tom turned to nudge his mate. "It's time to go," he mewed, his voice croaky and cracked. And then he was on his paws, all his pain vanishing. The young, handsome Skytomb smiled brightly at his equally youthful and lovely mate. This time, when he spoke, his voice was lively. "Let's go!" He turned, leaping up into the blue, ready to chase his love all the way to StarClan.

Icelily
Icelily's fragile, ancient form shuddered as she turned to rest her gaze upon Skytomb's form. He was so handsome. She knew they'd always be together forever. Her ice-blue eyes still stayed on him as he sighed, and she let out a rusty purr. "It's almost our time now." Her voice came out shakily, but lovingly. She bent her head and licked his ears. Her movements had long since become stiff, and she couldn't move as easily.
She sighed, and lay down beside Skytomb, resting her muzzle on his flank. She could feel Death's presence like an icy breath on the tips of her ears. She briefly thought of her remaining children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They would be safe with her family around. She knew Midnightsky would take care of them all. He was strong, and she knew he would do what it took to protect them. She felt sad for him, as he lost all his siblings from his litter. But she knew he had grown strong bonds with his siblings, and relatives. He would be hurt from their death, but she knew he would pull through.
She opened her eyes and saw that Skytomb seemed to be falling into a lull of near-death. She felt his muzzle nudge her. She smiled, and whispered, "We're ready." She shut her eyes again, her breathing coming in short gasps. She felt her spirit rise, and when she opened her eyes, there was no pain. She smiled, and looked to see Skytomb beside her, restored to his youthful spirit and strength. "Hey," She meowed, before following his starry path to heaven.
Down back on Earth, their lifeless bodies rested in their mossy nests, waited to be discovered by their Clan. Skytomb and Icelily had passed on, to forever run with their fallen clanmates, and watch over their ever-growing family.

haloheart & indigohawk As she headed towards the elders' den, Haloheart's sky blue eyes still glittered with pride and joy. Her kits were apprentices! The orange tabby she-cat smiled to herself as she pictured each of their faces. They weren't kits anymore. They were apprentices - Myrtlepaw, Coconutpaw, Cootpaw and Tinypaw. Happiness shuddered through Haloheart's small frame as she stepped into the elders' den. "Mother, Father!" she mewed, excitement bursting like bubbles in her voice. "The kits are apprentices!" Haloheart's eyes fell on her parents' still forms. She purred in amusement. "Wake up," she mewed, walking forward to touch her mother's shoulder. She froze as her white paw touched her mother's equally snowy shoulder. It was growing cold beneath her fur. "No," she moaned. Tears leaked out from beneath her eyelids. "No! Mother! Father!" The yowl was filled with pain. The small warrioress threw herself down between her parents' bodies and sobbed, her frame shaking with grief.
Indigohawk had been padding past the elders' den, on his way to his nest. He felt drained, and wanted a nap. But the blue-grey tom's head snapped around as a scream of pain hit his ears. The muscular young tom hurried into the elders' den. "Haloheart...?" he mewed slowly, blinking down at his sister. The young warrior's sapphire eyes flashed across Icelily and Skytomb, and his mouth fell open. "Oh... Oh no," he mewed, falling into a sitting position. His face was like blank stone, wiped clean by shock.

Midnightsky && Cloakedclaw && Stripedfeather
Midnightsky's eyes still watched Fadedstar. He knew they needed to talk soon. Pain seemed to throb through him as he realized she seemed to be pulling herself away. His head seemed to swivel as he heard a cry from an all-too-familiar voice. Haloheart! He raced toward the noise and bit back a scream. The scene in front of him pained him, seeing his parents lying so still. His frame, so much like his father's, traced Haloheart's path and reached his sister. He sat down beside her and lay his tail against her flank. "Haloheart.... Indigohawk..." Tears rolled down his eyes as he felt the pain of realization. Never again would he see his parents rushing out of the elders' den to congratulate them. He shook his head, gulping in air, and realized. He was the oldest of the family now. It was his duty to make sure they were all okay. He looked up into the heavens, and meowed softly, "Mom, Dad, I'll take care of them. I promise." He dropped his head and sobbed silently as the bodies of his parents grew colder, and the den filled with nothing but quiet sobs.
Cloakedclaw touched noses with Ribbontail. "I've got to go tell Mom and-" His ears swivelled as he heard Haloheart's cry. "Sis!" He dashed away, and ended up in the entrance of the elders' den. "No... NO!!!" He screeched. The young tom threw himself beside his sister and sobbed, pressing his nose into his parents' pelts. "They're just sleeping. Yeah. They'll wake up. I know they will." He began shaking them, hoping that they would open an eye. But nothing happened. Mom... Dad..." He felt like a kit, mewling for his parents. But they were gone. He looked up at his brother, Midnightsky, and dropped his gaze again. He felt so alone.
Stripedfeather was following Indigohawk as he padded to the elders' den, and turned at the same instant. She raced behind him, reaching the den a couple of mouse-tails behind him. What she saw made her legs wobbly. Her parents... Were dead. She slouched against Indigohawk, all her strength zapped away from this. She buried her face in his shoulder and sobbed. She knew that soon the entire clan would find out, and there would be a vigil, but she couldn't stand to look at their bodies. If she didn't look, maybe it didn't happen. But she knew it had happened. It was the end.

fadedstar -- !
"A terrible loss for our Clan" He gentle voice drifted into the elder's den. The leader's slim body followed her grave voice as she slid into the den, padding around the mourning cats, eyes touching each of them as she made her way towards the deceased elders. Bending down, Fadedstar pressed her soft muzzle to that of the Skytomb's, then Icelily's fur. Her cornflower blue eyes lifted again, filling with sorrow at the thought of loosing the only cats she had considered parents. Of course, they wouldn't think that now if they knew what she was planning for their son. Taking a deep breath, the she-cat sat down.
"Skytomb and Icelily, two very honorable cats. I know they will always watch over all of us" Fadedstar murmured, a single tear slid from her eye as she closed it, then opened again, looking up at Cloakedclaw and Stripedfeather. Her eyes finally landed upon Midnightsky and she felt her eyes harden slightly. She lowered her head, pressing her nose to both the elders' heads, then stood, padding around them and coming to Midnightsky's side. "It you get a moment...I'd like to speak with you" She whispered, then slid out of the den, heading across the clearing and sitting outside her den.

ribbontail, tansyfrost & cootpaw Ribbontail's thoughts were still on Loonpaw as she watched her mate cross the clearing. The silver bengal was lost in her own mind, seeking out solutions to the problem of her odd apprentice. After a few long moments, the beautiful silver bengal seemed to wake up from her reverie. Her sapphire eyes fixed themselves on the growing crowd around the elders' den. She scented the sorrow, and the smell of her mate, and his family - the family who she considered her's, too. Ribbontail got to her paws, guessing what had happened. A horrible taste came into her mouth, and she had to swallow a couple of times to eradicate it. Ribbontail slid into the elders' den just as Fadedstar was leaving it. She gave the leader a tiny nod. The warrioress's eyes fell on the two bodies, and her guesses were proved right. Tears pricked her eyes, but did not fall. She had to be strong for Cloakedclaw. The she-cat padded across to her mate and licked his ears. "I'm here," she mewed gently.
Tansyfrost, who was sat outside the nursery, was one of the first to catch the stale smell of death coming from the elders' den. Due to her blindness, her sense of smell was better than most other's. The ginger and white queen opened her mouth to taste the air. She sensed most of her relatives padding past, including her parents. The she-cat ducked her head. The scents of Icelily and Skytomb, her grandparents, were fading. They must have passed into StarClan. Turning, the blind queen slipped into the nursery to tell her kits.
Cootpaw could hear the wails of grief from where he was stood inside the apprentices' den, prodding a pile of moss together to make a nest beside Loonpaw's. The tan-coloured tabby blinked, frowning. He could have sworn one of those pain-filled screams had belonged to his mother. The youngster pushed his way out of the apprentices' den, shoving his head through the ferns of the elders' den. His chin dropped. "Nanna!" he mewed, his pondweed-green eyes filling with pain. "Grandpa!" Cootpaw's eyes fell on his mother's shaking form, and he hurried forward to comfort her. haloheart & indigohawk The undersized ginger tabby heard her oldest brother's voice, but did not react. She kept her muzzle pressed into Icelily's fur, and her tail draped over Skytomb's back. She felt like a kit that got itself lost in the woods. The small she-cat did react when her brother appeared - the only sibling from her litter that she had left. They'd lost so many cats. Dragonflydance, Pixiemagic, Littleshine. Flightpaw, Rushpaw, Shoalpaw. And now her parents. Haloheart pressed her face into Cloakedclaw's chest briefly. The ginger and white warrioress only seemed to snap out of her sorrow slightly when she heard her son's thin voice. As Cootpaw ran to her, Haloheart held him against her snowy chest, feeling his scrawny frame shaking with shock.
Indigohawk's eyes slid sideways as he felt something fall on him. He straightened his back, taking Stripedfeather's weight. The big blue-grey tom's eyes were huge and soft with sadness, but instead of remaining frozen, he turned to comfort his littermate. "It's okay," he mewed, licking her ear.

Midnightsky && Cloakedclaw && Stripedfeather
Midnightsky's ears swivelled to the sound of his mate's voice. When he looked up at her, he saw her eyes look at him, and a hardening of them followed. Confused and sad, he nodded and followed her out. "What's wrong?" He asked, worried. What else could happen to him? He lost his parents, the only thing that could be worse was if Fadedstar left him. But she couldn't. He knew she loved him. At least he thought she did. Now he was worried about that. If only Midnightsky could hide in the warriors' den and pretend it was all a dream!
Cloakedclaw turned and felt his mate's fur pressed against his. He brushed his face against hers, wiping away the tears. "Thank you." He mewed quietly. He kept his eyes on her, knowing she was hurt already from losing Sunjinx not too long ago, and the death of his parents, who were like parents to Ribbontail, had the potential to hurt her even more. He pressed his fur against hers, and felt comforted to know that she would always be there, even through her last breath.
Stripedfeather's eyes softened as she heard her best friend, her brother, speak to her. "It will be." She replied, licking his ear. "They've only just died, and I miss them so much. What are we going to do without them?" She mewed to him, quietly, so no one else could hear her.
