No. It was happening. She didn't want it to, but it was happening.
The lithe black she-cat slipped delicately through the murky underbrush, which erupted into a beautiful, silky-grassed plain. Heatherpaw had left camp at night, even though she was always quite a rule follower. She figured she would be a warrior soon, so it couldn't matter too much. Either way, she needed to be alone. But the loneliness she wanted was so painful, like a drug tearing her stomach apart. She wanted to be alone, but she wanted him here. And she didn't want that. Heatherpaw didn't want to believe that she could possibly be falling for a tom, even in the slightest. A little teenage crush would slowly evolve into a full-fledged need for him, and she couldn't bear the pain she'd feel when she was rejected. Perhaps he'd let her down easy, but love never worked out. Stories were stories; none of it was actually real. Love was all fairytales and wishes, none of it would actually come true.
It was happening. She didn't want it to, but it was happening.
Oh, Geckorain...
// reserved for shade with geckorain, derr. i know we didn't actually talk about having a thread or something but i think we should start more between them. <3

geckorain It was terrible, truly terrible. The clan had suffered great loss from the recent rogue attack, and they were suffering for it. oft pawsteps broke through the silent serenity of the springtime night. A lithe shape the colour of slate slipped beneath the trees, a single warrior of the stricken clan, sent to watch over the clan's borders in the treachorous time of dark. Geckorain's sea green eyes swam with unspoken thoughts, like fish flitting through a river; visible, but unreachable, unless you know how to catch them. The young warrior tensed as movement nearby rustled in the bushes. Geckorain's ears pricked, and he stepped out into a pool of moonlight, which bleached his fur a dazzling silver. He looked from side to side, his eyes wary, until they fell on a slender black, shape. His features relaxed. "Oh; greetings, Heatherpaw," he mewed, smiling slightly at the she-cat. "What brings you out here?"

Of course. Just as she wanted to alone, he showed up. She wanted him away, and yet she wanted him close. Even though her crush on him was small, she knew it would become more. If she was around him, she would be delighted on the inside, basking in the warmth of his wondrous presence. If she were deprived from him, she would practically be deprived of air, of life, of function; she would long for him so greatly that it would almost burn her insides. She hated love, and yet it made her feel so happy. "Hey, Geckorain." Heatherpaw shielded her feelings with ease, her shyness causing her to simply push all of her thoughts away. The result was a sigh that was articulated with her greeting to the slate gray tom. "Oh, I don't know... I just needed to get away from camp for a while. I hate hearing everyone talk about the rogues. It's real depressing." She was lying through her teeth right there; she'd wanted away from her feelings. However, thinking about Nyx's raid on the Clan, she couldn't help but shudder inwardly. The attack had been devastating. Blood stains still dampened the clearing as painful reminders, even though they'd faded slightly. Blood was somewhere high on her fears list, and her fears list was quite extensive.
One of those fears was rejection.[/blockquote]

geckorain The grey tom avoided her gaze politely, aware that she was fighting some internal battle, and not wanting to intrude. When she did choose to speak, his ears pricked up once more, and his interested expression returned. His small, wise smile curled his muzzle once more. The warrior's eyes darkened somewhat as Heatherpaw mentioned the recent attack on MoonClan. "Yes," he mewed softly. "But I know that our stolen friends will return to us - StarClan will guide them." Her shudder made his heart beat with anger. Not at Heatherpaw, at the rogues who had caused all this distress and sorrow. Hollowsong, Sablepaw... Cats had disappeared, cats had been injured, killed. It was pointless, meaningless violence. One of the few things which lit Geckorain's meagre temper. The young warrior's expression was gentle as he looked at the younger cat. "Try not to be scared, Heatherpaw," he told her kindly.

His gentle voice was soothing, relaxing, like a soft caress over her tense facial features. Her muscles visibly released, and she suddenly felt well at ease. Ease, ease, or at least as eased as she could be standing before him, Geckorain, as he gently calmed her like he was a loving father and she a kit, frightened out of her wits by a raging thunderstorm. She looked timidly pu at him for a moment, then averted her gaze to her paws. "I'll try," she murmured, her voice seeming distant. Heatherpaw's mind was beginning to drop her fear of crushing even slightly on Geckorain and she let herself simply enjoy his warm presence. Nyx, that wretched fiend. How dare she burst into the camp and injure, kill, capture their cats. What was she even gaining from it? The apprentice wasn't quite sure what the murderous tuxedo's motive had even been, but it had caused MoonClan pain, disaster, chaos, and sorrow. The black-pelted fae blinked, the memory of the attack faint in her mind as she gazed back up at the warrior again. "Yes, they will return home," she whispered, trying to assure herself. She held his gaze for what seemed like forever but was, in reality, only a second, speaking in her conversational tone (which was somewhat quiet) when she talked again. "But...it's such a hard thing to believe. Not just that they'll come back, but... Heatherpaw trailed off, looking at her paws. She wasn't quite sure if she wanted to say this, but she could trust Geckorain, couldn't she?
...couldn't she...?[/blockquote]

geckorain Geckorain's face smoothened out as Heatherpaw visibly relaxed. He couldn't stand the idea of any cat being frightened, or anxious. The young warrior tom nodded at Heatherpaw's simple words. "Good," he mewed softly. The grey tom looked over the jet black apprentice's head, peering into the gloomy vegetation. A place that had once seemed so safe, so homely, now seemed to send panic into the hearts of so many cats. Geckorain's gaze fell on Heatherpaw again as she sighed. He looked worried again, as if the sigh had reflected anxiety within her again. She looked as though she was about to speak; and a moment later, she did. "We should keep hoping," he mewed reassuringly. Her soft voice still held worry, it seemed; to his ears at least. Geckorain stared into her pretty eyes, waiting for her to finish her sentence. She seemed to be hanging on a thread, unsure whether to speak or not. "You can trust me, Heatherpaw," he mewed solemnly.

The she-cat shuffled her paws in stared down at them. She knew very well that she could trust Geckorain with anything, anything at all. He was like a big brother since she wasn't that close to Deceptionpaw, a big brother that she had a crush on. She was slightly afraid of ruining his thoughts of her. Oh well. Heatherpaw decided to simply wing it. "Well...to be honest...sometimes...sometimes I doubt StarClan..." The black-furred apprentice bit her lip. "Like...sometimes it's hard to believe in them. Like a seeing is believing sort of thing. I want to believe, and part of me knows they're real, but sometimes... I don't know... It just seems like you're really faithful, and I just...I was scared to tell you..." A silent sigh escaped her maw, and she nervously let her eyes drift up to Geckorain, her head still down.[/blockquote]

geckorain Geckorain waited patiently, his eyes soft. The she-cat looked as though she was struggling with something on her mind. He couldn't bear to think of any cat in distress - especially one so young, and beautiful. Geckorain pricked up his ears as Heatherpaw began to speak. His expression did not change as the words poured out of her mouth. After the apprentice had finished speaking, Geckorain bent down, to touch her gently between the ears with his nose. "It's alright, Heatherpaw," he mewed in his quiet, level tones. "Everybody is entitled to their own beliefs. I know that sometimes it is hard to have faith in StarClan..." Geckorain looked up at the dark sky. Heatherpaw's faith in his belief was somewhat wrong. He had wondered at times. He rarely needed proof to belief in something... But StarClan could be so cruel. Geckorain looked down at Heatherpaw. "I've wondered myself sometimes, Heatherpaw: you're not alone."
