[/s] [/blockquote] The brown tabby padded quietly through the park, the early morning mist dampening his fur. His light green eyes pierced through the fog as his feet connected gingerly with the ground. No one was out yet, and Pioneer was revelling in the quiet calm of the park. There were no Twoleg kits playing or older ones walking their dogs. No, everything was quiet and peaceful. The tom stopped under a bench, looking around anxiously. Fog was thick throughout the whole park, and it dimmed his sense of smell. The tom was relying on his sight to keep him away from danger such as broken glass on the ground. He scampered over to a low bush, crawling under it. The branches made a nice den over him, and he squished back far enough that another cat could fit it, but not a Twoleg arm.
Pioneer was far too tired. He had been wandering the whole night, but he hadn't found anything interesting. He had felt compelled to search for something, but it had been a waste of time. All the tom could do was lower his broad head onto his slim tabby forepaws and sigh softly. He didn't want to close eyes; he didn't want to sleep. He knew that the second he let darkness wash over him, Paprikaleaf's face would flood his mind and he wouldn't get any peace. But she was far away, and Pioneer was being irrational. He wasn't Shoalpattern anymore.

spectre A long, slim white tail dangled down from one of the wooden benches in the park. It belonged to a dainty white she-cat. Spectre's ice-blue eyes glowed in the darkness. What was she doing out here? She wasn't entirely sure. She was lonely, that was one reason. She hadn't had company for moons. She had no idea where Cursico and Muffin had got to, and hadn't heard from Wolfpaw since he had left her in search of his mother. Spectre looked at her small forepaws with a sigh. This was terrible. Just like in the icelands... She felt utterly alone, bad memories rising up like dank fog to swallow her. Spectre jumped as she heard a noise like footsteps through the gloom. She leapt nimbly down from the bench and arched her back, her pale, snowy fur bristling.
"Who's there?"

[/s] [/blockquote] Pioneer was trying to get some much-needed sleep when a voice interuppted his thoughts. Poking his pale brown head out of the den, the tabby tom looked around. A bench near the small bramble cave was visible in the morning fog, and Pioneer could see a lithe figure sitting on it. He took a tentative step out of the den, padding towards her. He tried to tell himself that he didn't want company and to head back into the den, but his heart panged for someone to talk to. Pioneer had been quiet for so long after the conversation with Tickety. The voice was somewhat familiar, but Pioneer just couldn't place it. The tom made a massive leap onto the bench, not caring if his sudden appearence from the fog scared her.
"Morning," he mewed suavely, but without a hint of cheerfulness. He watched the she-cat carefully, steely green eyes glinting. She was familiar, and Pioneer was sure that he had seen her before. For a moment, she looked like Paprikaleaf, but the image quickly vanished as Pioneer blinked. "Sorry if I scared you. Have I seen you before?" his voice lacked its typical harsh edge, the soft morning making an impression on the slim tom. [/blockquote]

spectre The slim white figure remained in the same position, back arched, eyes slits of fear and wariness. Spectre jumped terribly, her legs flailing in the air, as a fairly large cat jumped out of the darkness. She expected to feel sharp claws and teeth in her flesh any moment, and so unsheathed her own claws and wheeled around, her face a terrified snarl. Horrible memories of her capture, back in the icelands, when she had been a kit, filled her. But the creature staring down at her was definately not a wolf, or one of the bulky rogue cats that had snatched her. Spectre relaxed. She recognized this tom. "Morning," she mewed, returning his greeting pleasently enough. "Well, yes, you did startle me a little." She chuckled nervously at this comment, her ice blue eyes still a little anxious. She noticed the sharpness of his tone, but chose not to take it to heart. There could be all kinds of reasons why he was irritated. "Yes, I've seen you, too... Pioneer, isn't it? My name's Spectre." The white cat looked at him expectantly, as though wondering if he remembered their meeting, but after a moment she dropped her eyes politely.

[/s] [/blockquote] Pioneer chuckled slightly as she admitted that she had scared her. Where most other cats would have looked down in a sheepish manner, Pioneer kept watching her with his green-grey eyes. The tom licked his muzzle softly, a keen interest still apparent in his eyes. An easy laugh rumbled up from the back of his throat, and the tom wound his tail around his paws. With a quick nod, he confirmed her question. "Yeah, Pioneer, s'me," he mewed, remembering her more and more. She was Spectre, he remembered that now. Then the beige she-cat added her name before he good ask her, and Pioneer smirked inwardly. When she dropped her eyes, the tom dropped his as well, still able to visualize her ice blue gaze. "So what brings you out here this morning, then?" the brown tabby asked politely, raising his gaze to look at her bowed head. She really was slim, and somewhat pretty. [/blockquote]

spectre The white she-cat smiled as he confirmed his name. She was happy she had remembered it correctly. The loner gave her shoulders a couple of licks, flattening the white fur. She glanced up as Pioneer spoke again, her ice-blue eyes slightly wide. "Ah, not much," she mewed easily, flicking her long, thin tail outwards. "My cave's a little empty when it's only me staying there. I'm used to having... Guests." She smiled at him, wondering if he travelled alone or with company. This made her think of her dear friends Cursico and Muffin, and that poor abandoned youngster Wolfpaw, and the loneliness in her chest throbbed even more. "What about you?" Her voice was carefully neutral. If he didn't want to tell her anything, fair enough. She didn't want to sound too pushy.

[/s] [/blockquote] Pioneer nodded jovially, a slight purr rumbling in his throat. The morning was very calming to the tabby, and for once he couldn't think of any cynical comments to make. The green-eyed loner made a note to lash some sarcasm out at someone later, to make up for this break in his composure. Pioneer wasn't big on first impressions, and he really didn't care what others thought of him. At least, most others. The tom licked and slim paw and drew it behind a mottled ear, still watching Spectre calmly. "Right," he nodded as she mentioned how empty her den was. Pioneer was used to being alone now, but the first half-moon that he had been away, it had been hard to adjust to the fact that he was alone. He wasn't in the warrior's den anymore.
So the tom emphasized with her a bit, before looking up in an attempt to ponder. He licked his muzzle thoughtfully. "Me? Ah, nowhere to go. I was wandering for the past little while, looking for anything..." the tom didn't add that he had been trying to chase away all of those bad memories that appeared like visions in the morning mist. spectre The dainty white she-cat smiled at his vague explanation. She didn't mind if he didn't want to elaborate. That was good enough for her. She was used to traveller with broken stories, looking for a place to stay. She got them often enough at her cave. That was how she had met Cursico, and his sister Muffin. She sighed briefly. She knew she shouldn't be worried about her friends (they probably just got themselves caught by the Twolegs again) but she couldn't help herself. Spectre blinked her ice blue eyes at the tom. "Well, Pioneer, I was just going to go hunt," she mewed. "You could join me, if you truly have nothing better to do." Spectre jumped neatly from the bench, dwarfed by the tom as she briefly stood beside him, then began to walk out of the park. The white coated she-cat looked over her shoulder once, then continued on her way.

[/s] [/blockquote] The tom shuffled his paws, watching her with his green eyes. He could see she was thinking, but the brown tabby didn't move a muscle. Only his fur shifted, thanks to the soft breeze. Only when she seemed to break out of her slight revery did Pioneer lick a paw and draw it over his face. His bored face met hers as the tom licked his muzzle. Had she been thinking about his vague explination? Was she suspicious? Did she think he was serial killer or something? Pioneer almost chuckled, but he was worried that he might sound malicious. Paprikaleaf had found him malicious, but he hadn't done anything to her. He han't wanted to, he had just hoped she felt the same. Maybe his half-sister had found a tom, now. Maybe she was happy. But was she happy? No, he was lonely.
Startled by Spectre's sudden departure, Pioneer leapt off the bench after her. Tail waving around behind him, he followed as she padded out of the park. "I'm coming!" mewed the tabby as he quickened his pace to catch up with her. "Where to?" [/blockquote]
