rosemarypool The thick treetops that belonged to the Razor Forest blocked out all sunlight. If you were to sit beneath their heavy heads, you would never know that the sun was streaming with heat through the leaves. The forest rang with birdsong, despite it's gloominess. The crunch of small paws on the grass announced the arrival of a cat. It was Rosemarypool. The young she-cat glanced over her shoulder, to be sure that Firepaw, her apprentice, was following. She still couldn't believe that she had an apprentice of her own. Rosemarypool shook herself, her long, dark tabby fur shimmering slightly. The warrioress padded on, her white paws stark against the green grass. The she-cat slipped easily through two tree trunks, emerging in a wide clearing. This place was often used to train apprentices - her own mentor, Razortomb, had trained her here often. Rosemarypool was unsure how to start with the youngster pottering along behind her, so decided to start with teaching her how to fight.
Rosemarypool licked her lips nervously as she thought how to do this. She decided to follow the same route as Razortomb had. She still did not think she was up to being a mentor. She would probably ruin Firepaw. The young warrior shuffled her paws anxiously. But Firepaw was approaching, she could hear her. And she didn't want the peppy youngster to see her uneasiness. So she plastered a smile on her face, and drew the usual curtains over her green eyes.

Firepaw
You love me, I hate you, I'm right, You're wrong, MOVE ON!
Firepaw's little paws scampered through the leaf littered forest as she raced towards her mentor, and relative. She skidded to a halt in the leaf mold, slamming straight into Rosemarypool's side. Sorry! She meowed sheepishly, backing away. But as sorry as she looked, her eyes were still super bright with excitement and energy. She began hopping around Rosemarypool.
What're we doing today? Huh? Huh? Tell me, I wanna know! I can't wait anymore!!! She stopped bouncing and started to chase her tail. Tell mee!!! She whined, sitting up and looking at Rosemarypool with humor in her eyes. Fighting? She stood on her hind legs and swung her front legs out like she was boxing. Hunting? She dropped onto all four paws and began to creep across the clearing. What are we doing? She asked again.

rosemarypool The longhaired she-cat had predicted what Firepaw would do when she arrived, and she had been right. Rosemarypool blinked nervously as the young whirlwind stormed into the clearing, squealing at the top of her voice. The warrior waved her feathery tail for Firepaw to be quiet, though she didn't have the heart to scold the excited youngster. "I'm going to teach you some basic fighting moves," she told her apprentice, when she eventually quietened down for long enough. The she-cat stepped back from Firepaw a few paces, until there was about two fox-lengths between them. She swallowed, trying to push away her nerves. She couldn't afford to mess this up. A young cat's training was at stake here. She'd feel terrible if she did not teach Firepaw properly just because she didn't believe in herself.
"Right, just attack me, okay?" she mewed. "Don't worry about it, just try." Rosemarypool stood light on her silky white paws, awaiting the attack from Firepaw.

Firepaw
Dear God, Just the other night I heard somebody say, "What's the use believing in you anyway?" I guess it was just heartache talking through the pain. It's a cryin' shame.
Firepaw slowed herself down as she listened to Rosemarypool. The usually confident cat was nervous now. What if she disappointed Rosemarypool? She could make the she-cat think she wasn't a good mentor!! Firepaw swallowed nervously, before backing up a bit. She saw that Rosemarypool was standing on her toes, so she knew she was going to leap. Firepaw knew that she could leap high, but Firepaw could leap higher. So Firepaw aimed high in the air and leaped. She landed on Rosemarypool's shoulders and scrabbled for a grip. When she finally did, she tried to force the she-cat down to the ground.

rosemarypool Rosemarypool could see Firepaw thinking. The youngster's eyes clouded with thought as she did so, and she took on an almost vacant expression. When the she-cat eventually ran at her, Rosemarypool took in the way she moved. She was running lightly, on the very tips of her paws. The she-cat guessed she was going to leap, but decided not to dodge sideways. The longhaired dark brown tabby felt Firepaw land on her back. She waited to see what the apprentice's next move would be. That wasn't a good idea. As Firepaw began to struggle to force her to the ground, Rosemarypool rolled over and pinned the smaller cat to the ground. After a moment she leapt away, letting Firepaw up. "Never try to force a cat bigger than you to the ground," she mewed, slightly breathless.
"It's better to slash and bite them from that height, okay?" she mewed. "Though obviously you're not going to do that in a training session..." She managed a small, nervous smile. "Try a differtent tactic, okay?"

Firepaw
Wouldn't it be nice if I had some tissues, Wipe away the tears, That's right you got issues. Why do you keep asking questions when I don't, Care.
Firepaw stood up and shook her pelt, frustrated. She nodded her head, all thoughts of being goofy leaving her mind as she thought of another way to attack her mentor. She could attack the paws, and trip her, maybe. She knew that if she aimed for the paws, Rosemarypool would know and move. So she looked at her shoulders again, but aimed for the paws. She barelled at her mentor and entangled her paws with hers, trying to trip her.

rosemarypool Rosemarypool stood ready, watching her apprentice planning her next attack. She still couldn't quite believe that Amethyststar had made her a mentor, before she had died. She guessed the black she-cat must have had a little faith in her. The longhaired warrior was wrenched out of her distracting thoughts as Firepaw pounced. She prepared to jump up, to avoid a slash to the shoulder, but the youngster instead targeted her paws. The sleek-coated warrior grabbed Firepaw's scruff and tossed her behind her. She hoped she hadn't hurt the young she-cat - she had been careful to throw her where there was plenty of moss. Rosemarypool wheeled around, waiting for Firepaw to move again. She wanted this to become a continous fight, rather than breaking in between each strike.
"Better, much better," she called, her confidence upping a cinch. The she-cat waited, moving her paws apart slightly, her green eyes ready and wary.
