She'd imagined it so many times. She knew it was silly to get this obsessed with a tom, but she couldn't help it. She'd went on hunting patrols and not caught a thing because she was thinking of him. She'd accidentaly missed the scent of a fox near the CloudClan border because she was thinking of him. And she'd thought out everything she was going to say to him one day when she was in the warrior's den at night, loosing precious hours of sleep. But that didn't matter, because tonight she was going to let him know. She had finally asked Marbleglint - the cause of all this insanity, the tom she was convinced she loved with all her heart - to go hunting with her.

Saffronclaw's paws tingled with anticipation as she led him up to the rise of a grassy hill, flicking aside the remains of melting snow as she went. A smug smile lit her face as she saw the bright, clear moon that hung in the sky. Some clouds flitted around it, but the white disk itself wasn't obscured. What a perfect, romantic scene! Yes, she had to tell him tonight.

"Isn't this great, Marbleglint?" she called to him, sitting down in the grass at the crest of the hill. "The moon is so beautiful, isn't it?"

How could he possibly still love Harmonytale? He felt it somewhere deep, deep down, like crow-food stuck in the pit of his stomach (not to compare her to a piece of crow-food or anything terrible like that of course). He knew he couldn't love her, it was terrible. And she hated him now, anyway, didn't she? After that fight they had about the night they'd been stuck in the fox den because of the snowstorm and... Marbleglint shuddered. He didn't even want to think about it. What if Harmonytale ended up with...with...StarClan, no. He'd never be able to forgive himself.

The lanky tom followed slowly after Saffronclaw, who seemed to pretty much be his only friend left. He looked over to her pain showing in his eyes. But then he forced all of the bad thoughts out of his mind, which didn't quite work until he saw the view. Just a glance at her made his feelings for Harmonytale dissolve for the moment, for the night. All he needed was Saffronclaw. The moonlight washing gently over her orange and white fur, her amber eyes sparkling, he knew that she was the one. Marbleglint felt his heart thumping loudly in his chest, so loud that he was sure that the whole forest had to be able to hear it. He felt the urge to softly caress her gorgeous face, to twine her tail with his, but restrained himself painfully. Instead he only smiled.

Saffronclaw felt herself blushing at his comment, and padded close to the tom, letting their flanks brush. She closed her eyes, letting his scent surround her... a purr rose in her throat, small and quiet but content. She stood there for a few heartbeats, not moving except for the smallest twitch of her tail-tip back and forth like a metronome. "Marbleglint..." she whispered, her voice oddly soft for her usual upbeat yowling. She pressed herself closer to him and, in a brash movement, brushed her cheek against his muzzle. She'd never wanted anything more than him... his love...

"Marbleglint, I love you," she meowed, twining her tail with his and opening her eyes to gaze at his face. "I have forever! Ever since we were apprentices... Marbleglint, you're the only one for me." Another purr rumbled in her throat, louder this time, as she thought of all the times Harmonytale had tried to steal him from her. There was no way he could regect her. No way in StarClan...

It all began to pulse through him. Yes, he was in love with Saffronclaw. The moment their flanks touched, he felt it. Her cheek gently brushing over his muzzle, such a small but powerful gesture. He opened his maw to speak but no words came out. She said it for him. Marbleglint, you're the only one for me... His start beating faster and faster. So much had happened in his young life. This was already the second she-cat he was in love with, and the first one...again, he didn't want to mention what had gone on between them.

Marbleglint looked over to Saffronclaw, returning her little tail-twine. "I love you too, Saffronclaw...I'm sure of it now, I do..." He brought his paw to her chin. "You are beautiful, Saffronclaw. Inside and out. I apologize that I could never see it before now..." Harmonytale panged at his heart, but the thought quickly dissolved. He couldn't have cared less about the rest of the world right now. This was all he needed.
