whirlwind. No one ever came here.
This place.
Where the winds took solid form and made grass into razors that cut trees and tossed them aside like leaves in a pile.
Whirlwind often wondered who did, besides oddballs like him. Well, it wasn't dangerous in most seasons, but New-leaf was coming and that meant that the whirlwinds would come and break more trees. He noticed the flat lands were getting darker, as the rain clouds starting pouring in. Clearstar was at the Gathering. He wondered if the clouds could be seen there as the night fell, perhaps so.
The slouching tom straightened until he heard his back crack, then he sighed and shook himself, yawning widely. The older warrior blinked wide brown eyes and turned around with another yawn. Gonna have to tell Clearstar about the tornadoes, he thought, mumbling a bit to himself and starting the trek home.

kellypaw Her silky paws thudded the grass as she explored the parts of the SerenityClan territory that she had not yet seen yet. Kellypaw's lime green eyes were bright with interest as she peered from left to right. Her cream-coloured fur was neat and shining, but for her paws, which were matted by the slush. She blinked as a scent washed towards her, followed by strong wind. She giggled hysterically as the thick fur on her face was blown back. Kellypaw sank her claws into the grass to stop herself being pushed backwards. She then spotted a large cat padding past her. She pranced up to the tom, recognizing his face but not remembering his name. Kellypaw flashed a smile at him. "Hi Mister! Why's it so windy here?" She kept step with him, humming under her breath.

whirlwind. He jumped and stood upright, his hair frizzing out a bit and his whiskers going in all different directions. "Ah...!" Whirlwind was always someone to be startled, more so when apprentices were around. He'd always had a bad relationship with apprentices (as seen with Sagepaw and Craneflight) so he was a bit dodgy in being around one now.
However, Kellypaw seemed nice enough and she had her own mentor. Perhaps this wouldn't be bad. Whirlwind paused. "Um...it's windy because the dry warm air on the flat ground and the damp cool air from the mountains mingle and make dangerous winds." He tried to smile. "There'll be tornadoes here soon." His voice was gentle, so quiet.

kellypaw The silky-furred apprentice laughed as Whirlwind jumped horribly, though the sound was not mocking or unkind. It was just the apprentice's answer to everything. Kellypaw continued to trot alongside the large tom as he chewed over her question, her lime eyes round and bright. Kellypaw listened, open-mouthed, to his explanation. "Oooooh, wow! Cool!" The innocent young cat giggled loudly. The cream-coloured she-cat blinked up at Whirlwind, interest sparking in her eyes. "Tornadoes? Cool!" She imagined the swirling mass of wind... And her expression changed. "It couldn't reach the camp... Could it?" She shuffled her forepaws, feeling ashamed of her anxiety.

whirlwind. He blinked when she laughed, eyes widening more when she found amusement at his words. "Ah...tornadoes." He paused to look up at the sky, staring at the churning clouds rumbling overhead. The massive tom sighed at Kellypaw's next question, nodding somberly. "Yes, they could reach camp...or any other camp if they decide to careen off in some other direction. They don't walk like us, more like this." He unsheathed one of his claws and made a jagged line in the dust. The wind began to pick up and scream across the land like a banshee, thunder and lightning crackling as the storm started to roar. Whirlwind's hair started to rise, the wind and static ruffling it up so much that he looked like a grousehen flattened over her nest protectively. The tom looked to his left and right, then pointing out a hook in the clouds. "Look, Kellypaw!" Swirling around ominously meant that a tornado could touch down at any time. "C'mon, we can't stay to watch. We have to tell Clearstar the second she gets home from the Gathering!" Ooooh, a rainstorm was coming alright.

kellypaw The young she-cat's face grew fearful as Whirlwind confirmed her fears. She'd always thought of the SerenityClan camp as the safest place to be. But it seemed that her fantasies were not true. She shivered. The she-cat let out a nervous, hysterical laugh, her paws trembling slightly. Kellypaw's eyes followed the pattern Whirlwind drew in the dust. She shook herself firmly. The tornadoes couldn't be that much of a threat, or they would have hit the camp by now, or Clearstar would've ordered them to leave camp. Kellypaw looked up like the warrior, her green eyes wide. She frowned. The last time she'd seen the sky like that was... When she was a kit, before winter hit the forest. It meant that rain was on the way. Kellypaw looked down at her paws, which were matted and dirty. The rain would wash away all this icky slush! Kellypaq squealed in excitement, and ran after Whirlwind. "I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm coming!" her voice was shaking with giggles.

whirlwind. The tom looked back to make sure Kellypaw was following him, so that she wouldn't get swept back by the wind that was picking up through the darkness. The graying one lunged powerfully over fallen logs and rocks, pounding his paws hard against the earth. Fat raindrops splattered on his nose and ears, making Whirlwind wince. He panted, rain twisting his scents and senses. He turned left and right, cursing to himself anxiously. "Aaah...Kellypaw...?" He couldn't believe this. Whirlwind had been in SerenityClan more than quadruple the moons of Kellypaw...yet now he was lost? The large tom paused by a short shrubbery, sitting down to try and trace back his path. However, the rain was starting to come down. It wouldn't be long before this storm system ran toward Aurora's Hollow.

kellypaw Kellypaw bounded after Whirlwind, giggles still tearing from her mouth. She didn't mind getting wet - this was an adventure! The cream-colored apprentice paused to shake herself. Her usually silky, pale fur was matted, and the wet had darkened it to a tan colour. Kellypaw flicked fur out of eyes and skipped after Whirlwind, her paws throwing up jets of watered down slush. Kellypaw halted as Whirlwind stopped abruptly. She blinked at him, her laughter returning, as he spoke. "Are you lost, Mister?" she laughed, her soaked sides shaking. Kellypaw looked from side to side, her bright green eyes searching. Eventually, they settled on a large, mossy rock. "This way, this way!" Her call was an excitable screech. Kellypaw headed towards the rock and prodded it with a muddy paw. "If you turn your head like this," she turned her head around so that she looked absurdly twisted. "It looks like a cat's head! That's how I remember!"

whirlwind. He hesitated when Kellypaw gestured for him to follow her. He was soaked to the skin now, though, and he'd rather be rightfully dead than not trust a Clanmate who knew something he didn't.
Whirlwind slowly walked after her, tilting his head and gazing upon the mossy rock. "I...I see," he said. The massive tom picked up the pace and began to follow Kellypaw a bit more confidently.
"Why do you laugh at everything, Kellypaw?" he asked softly after a few minutes. "I...I find it so hard to laugh." Maybe it was because she was young and had plenty of life to live.

kellypaw Kellypaw chuckled as she squelched along, the ground becoming more and more muddy by the minute. She could tell that Whirlwind had found it difficult to see the rock the way she did. The cream-coloured apprentice turned to look at the big tom as he spoke, his voice much different. She thought about the question. "I guess it's 'cos..." she mewed thoughtfully. "It's easier to laugh. Then you don't have to think about things too carefully, and think about the bad stuff." The apprentice turned her head from side to side for a moment, then giggled again. "Don't worry, Mister!" she poked his shoulder with a muddy paw. "Just let all the bad stuff get out your mind." Kellypaw turned as if to carry on walking, then whipped around, swinging her muddy tail so that the dirt flicked at Whirlwind. "Ha!"

whirlwind. The tom blinked and almost looked dumb-founded at Kellypaw, making him an open target for the mud that she flicked at his face. He shook himself and wiped it away, feeling rather dumb as he followed the she-cat. Oh this would be a story: "Old warrior gets lost and has to be taken home by apprentice". Whirlwind sighed and followed Kellypaw, keeping to her right side this time so that her tail wouldn't flick anymore dirt up at him. "I think I'm starting to remember where we are. Camp shouldn't be far." His dark eyes flicked over to Kellypaw. "Thanks...um...I'm Whirlwind, by the way."

kellypaw Still laughing at Whirlwind's bewildered expression, Kellypaw scampered onwards. She noticed the larger cat move so that her tail couldn't flick anymore mud at him. She glanced at him, her green eyes brimming with high amusement. The cream-coloured apprentice paused to shake out her wet fur furiously, so that water cascaded in every direction. When she had finished, her fur stuck up in all directions as though she had been electricuted. She increased her pace to catch up with Whirlwind again. The apprentice nodded vigorously at the tom's words. She too recognized the path, the familiar trees and plants and scents. If she strained her ears, she could hear very faint voices, a feat she was extremely proud of. Kellypaw pranced to the entrance. "That was pretty fun, Mister," she mewed brightly. She grinned away his thanks, before turning and disappearing into the camp, fast as a snake, calling over her shoulder. "Okay, bye, Mister Whirlwind!"
