The black she-cat trotted along determinedly, ahead of Razortomb and the four apprentices. Her amber eyes glowed with uncertainty. She knew not what she would find when she spoke with StarClan. They had not gone far at all when a small, nervous voice interrupted Amethyststar's thoughts. She turned to see Cloudpaw, the sibling of Rosemarypaw and Brokenpaw. She blinked for a moment at his comment, and looked into his wide, anxious blue eyes. Suddenly smiling, she mewed; "Of course you can, Cloudpaw." Amethyststar flicked her tail and carried on, still smiling to herself. Cloudpaw's eager young face had reminded her of her youngest sister, Sugarcane, before she had died. Amethyststar sighed. She missed Sugarcane, though she still had the she-cat's littermate; her brother, Spicetalon.
Rosemarypaw noticed Brokenpaw glaring at her as she walked a few paces to his right. She tried to glare back but a lump formed in her throat and she looked away. The tabby apprentice looked at her paws, afraid that if she looked up Brokenpaw would still be staring at her with hate in his eyes. Rosemarypaw tried desperately to swallow the lump in her throat, and the tears threatening to spill over. It wasn't fair. Brokenpaw was never so horrible to Cloudpaw or Stonepaw - what had she done to deserve this treatment?
Corbynpaw sullenly strolled after the others, his dark paws dragging in the dust. He had shown open contempt that he was being forced to accompany is accursed mother on this useless mission, while the others had been excited. He had noticed a possible feud between Brokenpaw and Rosemarypaw. This had made him sneer. Brokenpaw was lucky to have kept his sister; if Selenekit were still alive Corbynpaw would never had shunned her attentions. The smoky tom sauntered on, eyes cold and irritated. He hoped that this trip would be short.
