egretfeathersA cottonmouth hung limp from her jaws as she proudly walked away from the Snake Oasis in MoonClan's territory. The pretty she-cat put down her kill and cut off its head before eating the body. It had some scaly parts that hurt to swallow but overall, the venomous snake was quite filling.
The white and gray she-cat quickly made her rounds around the area. She didn't figure that anyone who try to invade CloudClan by way of the Oasis border with MoonClan but she wouldn't underestimate anyone's crazy possible schemes. She may be a queen, but her kits were gone. She really had no reason to stay in the nursery and she needed the exercise. She hated swallowing back the tears when she saw the other mothers with their kittens.
Egretfeathers began her round back to camp, not paying attention that she had just been hunting in the MoonClan side of the Oasis. No one was watching, right? Sure, it was high noon and all, but that didn't mean anything.

kitewhistle.Kitewhitsle had been spending more time around Snake Oasis lately. He had also gotten a taste for snakes, beleive it or not. He didn't think that anyone else from CloudClan had, so he was surprised to find a she-cat at the oasis. He made out the shape of Egretfeathers, the queen who had lost her litter. He licked his muzzle thoughtfully as he saw her pad away from the MoonClan border, a snake in her mouth. She carefully ate the cottonmouth, so far unaware that Kitewhistle was watching. After that she simply went on with her patrolling of the border. The tom sighed unde his breath, clicking his tongue.
Then he revealed himself. "'Scuse me, miss," he meowed, a bit of a smile on his face and a lot of one in his eyes. "But 'm afraid I just caught'ya stealin' prey. From MoonClan, 'o course, but ain't that stealin', either way?" [/blockquote]

egretfeathersShe jumped, her hair poofing out a bit. "Oh StarClan, Kitewhistle, you scared me half to death." The she-cat exhaled sharply, calming herself down and hanging her head to try and catch her breath.
Lifting her head, Egretfeathers blinked and looked at him, then glanced over at where she had just been hunting. About to frown and snap at him who ever really cared about Snake Oasis anyway, she looked up at him with slightly-narrowed eyes and realized he was smiling. Her jaw dropped.
"Um...haha, right. Sorry." Her tail thumped on the ground. "I figured no one'd care if I killed a venomous snake. One less of something that could kill, eh?" She smiled softly. "Wouldn't want--" my kits out here... She coughed, clearing her throat and waving her paw.
"Anyway, are you patrolling here too, Kitewhistle? I know how you like to do those solo missions." She chuckled at him.

kitewhistle. Before Egretfeathers was even finished her first sentance, Kitewhistle was laughing his low, bellowing laugh. "Well, no one'd bother t'argue with that logic. Yar right, one less killer snake'll do both th'Clans good." He wasn't quite sure what to say when she cut off, so he was glad when the she-cat asked him about his patrol. He laughed again, but it was quieter this time - not the maniac laugh from a moment before. "Yep, I find it t'be a bit more enjoyable when 'm by m'self. Unless ya'd like t'accompany me back t'camp, that is." His pale eyes scanned the border again. "Doesn't seem like thar're any MoonClan patrols runnin' now. They'd've caught ya thar." [/blockquote]

egretfeathersShe smiled when he laughed, feeling a bit more relaxed.
However, a sigh crept through her when he mentioned accompanying him back to him. "No...I think I'm going to stay out here for a while," she said. "There's been too much drama going on...with Stormstar..." Egretfeathers shook her head, flicking her tail. The pretty gray and white she-cat lifted her head, facing it toward MoonClan. He was right; she would've been in some serious mousedung if a patrol had caught him. Though, she heard from one of CloudClan's patrols that they saw a rogue bragging about how she had taken Firestar's second-to-last life. If that was true (who could believe a rogue nowadays?), would Firestar soon be en route to meet with Stormstar? Egretfeathers grunted to herself.
Changing the subject, she resorted to lifting up her tail and poking Kitewhistle's black muzzle with it. "Anyway, since we're here, tell me something about yourself, my little white and black knight." Egretfeathers laughed out loud, a sort of lark's song. She got up and began to walk with him along the Wide Lake.

kitewhistle."Aye," he agreed gravely. "But he's lived a good life, that'un has. Couldn't'a asked fer a better leader." Kitewhistle huffed, matching his steps to the she-cats as they strolled along the bank. It seemed the forest was coming undone, strand by strand, cat by cat. He let out his breath in a slow hiss. "Not a good time fer him t'get sick, if I dare say so. An untrained medicine cat 'prentice... now a new leader..." his claws scraped stone as he thought of Dragonflydance's death. That no-good BrightClan leader. If anything, Kitewhistle was happy that the ink-black tom had perished with her. He'd never accept help from BrightClan, and if he could help it, CloudClan wouldn't either - not while he was alive.
His scowl turned to a cheek grin quickly when Egretfeather's laughed. "Mighty nice giggle y'got thar, miss," he said with a chuckle of his own. And he wasn't being sarcastic - it was a pretty laugh. He looked off down the lakebed before answering. "Well. M'sole loyalty's CloudClan. I got a taste fer snakes and birds. And, o'course, pretty she-cats." he winked at her and anothr howling laugh shook his sides. "Jokes aside, I'd rather hear about yer life than mine. I don't got much t'show. No parents, no siblin's. You?"

egretfeathersShe nodded in agreement with the tom's words but frowned at his belittlement of Emeraldpaw. She sighed and shook her head. "You should be more optimistic, Kitewhistle," the white and grey femme said quietly. Her tail thumped on the ground. She didn't think Fadedmemory would be a bad leader at all, and Swampfox was a wonderful choice of a deputy. She often wondered what it would be like if she was deputy, then leader. Egretstar. The thought made her chuckle inwardly.
Gentle eyes glanced over, softening a bit. "Thank you." She blushed as he complimented her, more so when he winked at her. Egretfeathers cleared her throat when he turned the floor to her. "Ah...well, my brother left the Clan when we were apprentices. My two sisters are here. My mum... well, she went a bit daft. Now it's just me, my father, Kexthorn, and Zebraleap." She almost mentioned Redsands but spat instead, grumbling.

kitewhistle.[/font][/size] "When th'survival o'the Clan's at stake, thar aren't no room fer optimists," Kitewhistle meowed, but he shrugged it off and his tone was much lighter. His eyebrow raised as Egretfeathers shared her family story. He knew Zebraleap and he'd seen Kexthorn around, both respectable warriors, as was Egretfeathers. He wondered when she'd go back to regular duties, and was about to ask her when he heard her grumble. Not exactly the most keen tom when it came to personal space (or common sense, he had proven on some occasions), he dove right in and asked her about it. "What's that? Yar got a problem with yer siblin's? Could be worse, 'll tell ya. 'Course, it's a sad happenin' with yar mum and all, if that's what'ya mean." He smiled at her expectantly. [/blockquote]

egretfeathersShe blinked when he spoke and then shook her head vigorously. "No no no!" The pretty femme sighed and looked away. "Not with my sisters." Swallowing hard, she lifted up her paw and touched her stomach gingerly. A moon ago, she could feel the little ones moving around. No more.
She looked up at Kitewhistle. "I mean...him. That stupid Redsands. I hope he trips over a rock and gets hit by a Monster," she said that with such savagery that she somewhat surprised herself. Egretfeathers sighed and shook her head again. "I wish I had never met him. I need to start over..."
