The Cloudy Hills were, as the name plainy stated, cloudy. A thick layer of clouds grayed and swirled in the skies, dancing slowly to the bitter wind that whispered through the grasses. The sun could not manage the feat of pushing away the clouds though, so there was no evidence of there even being a sun on this drowsy day. The snow-covered ground below was indented with the footprints of hares and mice and cats, the inhabitants of this frozen and snowy wonderland. As you look from above, you can see a small ginger-and-white figure trampling through the frozen grasses, in the middle of a hunt obviously.
Kindlepaw shivered in the unpleasant cold, her breath a hot mist as it puffed from her slightly parted muzzle. She usually loved Leafbare, with its whiteness and soft snow, but the cold was too much. Her coat was Leafbare-thick now, but even that could not stop the penetrating icyness that crept though her fur. Her tail swept along the ground as she pressed each paw ahead of her gently, so as not to creat much of a ruckus. Her brown eyesfound the furry, white form of a rabbit as it snuffled about the grasses and snow, searching for something. Food, perhaps. Kindlepaw didn't really care about that, though. She cared about feeding her Clan. But the rabbit was so big. She was used to catching mice or small birds, not larger rabbits. I'll have to wrestle with it, the she-cat thought wryly.
She flexed her back legs uncertainly, but before too long she pounced on the rabbit with her claws unsheathed and her fangs ready to snap. But they didn't get the chance. The rabbit sped off faster than a lick, its white fur blending in with the snow and making it seemingly disappear. The rabbit's mad dash aroused a small mouse though just a few tail-lengths from Kindlepaw, so she made the mad dash this time, heading straight for the mouse in a desperate effort to catch something. Catch anything. Even a mouse-tail would suffice! She leapt for the mouse and her claws caught the bald tail. She yanked it to shock the mouse once, twice, and closed her eyes before jerking it again. The mouse went slack. She opened her brown eyes wide, and they flashed with amberish-brown fury.
The mouse was gone, and its tail hung limply from her mouth.
"You did say even a mousetail would suffice," Kindlepaw told herself aloud, looking down scornfully at the mouse's tail. She released a tired sigh and plopped back in a sitting position for a rest. It was so hard to hunt in Leafbare. So hard. And all she wanted to do was prove herself, but how could she do that? How could she show her worth if she, literally, only caught a single mousetail? Oh, well. It would do her paws some good is she rested for a bit, as they felt like they were about to drop off. She settled down, tucked her paws underneath her and curled her tail around her body, letting go of another sigh and another misty breath. Would she catch anything today?

Though he scouted around and scented every once in awhile, the young apprentice wasn't really out to hunt. He was out to escape the confines of his camp. He would always keep his mouth shut in the CloudClan camp, fearing to say anything incase some jerk made fun of his teeth. But out in the hills, even if it was cold- or raining, as it was usually- Sharkpaw could inhale the fresh air. So he opened his mouth, sucking in the moist air. It felt so good on his dry throat. Even the feeling of his large teeth pressed up against the sides of his muzzle didn't dampen his mood like it usually did. He didn't like the snow, for obvious reasons, but he didn't hate it either. It was relief to walk around in the winter wonderland that the woods and hills became. Covered in glittering snow. Now, the tom didn't fancy seeing this when it was all melting. Then it would be gross and Sharkpaw would stay in camp.
Not paying attention to where he was going, Sharkpaw nearly bumped into Kindlepaw. She had been sitting slightly on the outside of his vision, and when he had turned, she had been right there. Blinking back surprise, Sharkpaw tried to come up with something to say. "Nice catch," he mewed, gesturing to the mousetail that hung from her mouth. He knew she might think that he was mocking her, but the tom didn't know what else to say. Though his words were scornful, the tom's tone was friendly, if a little shy. "Kindlepaw, right?"[/blockquote]

Kindlepaw gave a start as something, a furry mass a bit larger than her but still small by normal standards, plowed into her. She felt the tips of her claws poke through their sheaths as she sucked in some air to let out an alarmed yowl, but just in time she recognized the scent to be.. Snarkpaw? Or was it Larkpaw? Kindlepaw didn't really know -- the gray and white tom wasn't exactly the talkative type, so she didn't know him very well. She knew his name started with an 's' though, which is start, isn't it?
Kindlepaw was about to mew a greeting when she heard Sharkpaw's scornful-sounding words. She tossed her head and glowered at him with her brown eyes, although when she saw him he looked.. a bit timid, bashful even. And his voice held none of the scorn as his words had. The small she-cat blinked a couple times apologetically to rid her eyes of the irritated glare she'd given him. "Thanks," she replied dryly, pricking her ears to listen to his next words. She expected a greeting, but the tom only said, "Kindlepaw, right?" and she nodded in confirmation.
"Yup." she chirped, swishing her tail. "And you are.. Snark.. paw..? I mean, Sharkpaw." It sounded more like a question.

Sharkpaw was shifting from foot to foot when suddenly Kindlepaw turned around with an angry glare. The grey and white tom recoiled, feet stumbling over the snowy ground and the tom was almost sent falling backwards. Catching his balance, he opened his mouth to give her a 'hell, woman?' when he realized there was now an apologetic look on her face. Blinking, Sharkpaw realized he was standing there with his mouth open and exposing his teeth to all of the world. Quickly, the tom snapped it shut. "Yeah... s'alright," he mumbled, knowing that his words had been kinda harsh. Still, the tom was a little taken aback. Jeez, why was it always the small ones who were fighters? The tom shook his head to clear it, noticing that Kindlepaw had bounced back with a cheerful smile.
He was careful not to open his mouth too wide as she guessed at his name. "Yeah, it's Sharkpaw," he said, trying to keep the coolness out of his tone. He was trying to be friendly and she didn't even know his name? Sighing, the tom rolled his eyes. He was quiet, but not really that shy, and there was a side of him that could get irritated quickly. "Get anything other than... well, than that?" he asked, gesturing to the mouse tail. Well, he was certaintly one for conversation starters. Great job, Sharkpaw, you're a dumbass, went his mind. The tom sighed and looked down to his paws, swishing his tail through the air. [/blockquote]

Kindlepaw had watched him closely as Sharkpaw had opened his mouth to say something after she'd glared at him, she eyed the teeth enviously, believe it or not, but kept her attention directed to the tom's face, not his fangs. If she had teeth like that, it'd be easy to prove herself a worth adversary in battle. But this tom seemed to be ashamed of his traits as he quickly snapped his mouth shut to hide his monsterous fangs.
Kindlepaw perked her ears as Sharkpaw gave her the affirmative on her guess as his name. The she-cat twitched her whiskers and parted her mouth to ask him out the prey was running for him, when yet again the tom let loose a friendly tone that asked a scornful question. Kindlepaw huffed, restrained a tone of irritance at ths tom's second little snub, and opened her maw wide to let out a mewl of complaint. "No.. Luck's avoided this hunt. I haven't caught a single bit of prey besides this mousetail!" she waved her tail over the mousetail. "It's my worst hunt ever. Catch anything yourself?"[/blockquote]

There was an amiable moment for a second as Sharkpaw hoped that she wasn't inexplicably drawn to his fangs. The tom waved his tail through the air, trying to draw on another topic to start a conversation- anything but the weather, he could already hear that one being played out in his head. 'So, uh, nice weather today.' 'It's snowing.' 'Yeah, how 'bout that snow?'. No, it just wasn't going to work. Sharkpaw was trying to find something else to say when Kindlepaw rounded on him again. Oh StarClan, did he ever say the right thing? "Calm down," he murmured belatedly, looking out of the corner of his eye somewhat guiltly. Ok, it wasn't like he had been especially nice there. But it wasn't like she was making a real effort either! Sharkpaw ground his teeth together- they were pretty larger, so it was slightly uncomfortable, mind you- and managed to finally grasp at what appeared to be able to lighten the mood.
"Tell you what," the tom said, eyes glittering. "We'll go to the oldest, skinniest, blindest elder, close their eyes and tell them it's a really really skinny, uhh..., vole. They won't be able to tell the difference," he purred, moving closer to Kindlepaw. Then her next question hit. "Ehh... I wasn't really hunting, if y'know what I mean? More like clearing my head..."[/blockquote]

It took a second or two for Sharkpaw's rare joke to set in.
Kindlepaw wasn't expecting it. I mean, who woukd? A joke from the usually shy, quiet, cool Sharkpaw? But when the joke finally did register in her mind, she turned on an engine of amused purrs. "They'd have to be the most mouse-brained, too!" she joked, batting a tiny paw at the gray and white tom as he scooted closer, a playful gesture.
You know, Sharkpaw can actually be kinda cute sometimes, Kindlepaw admitted to herself as she realized Sharkpaw was usually the distanced, cool cat that was often the most silent.
Kindlepaw glanced up at the tom as he explained that he was not hunting, merely thinking and clearing his head. The small ginger and white she-cat's brown eyes glimmered with faint amusement. "Oh, I see." she mewed, sticking the tip of her tongue out teasingly as she continued. "So you're finally cleaning that thing out then, hm?" Obviously, the small apprentice meant her words playfully, as a joke, but maybe Sharkpaw wouldn't see it that way. Hopefully he'd see it as more of a joke than an insult. What was she thinking? Sharkpaw wasn't an idiot who couldn't tell a teasing comment from a rude snub. Well.. Kindlepaw hoped not, anyway. That would put her in a wee bit awkward position.[/blockquote]

"Pfft," mewed Sharkpaw, amber eyes glinting. He churned the ground underneath him with his claws, still reluctant to show his large teeth. "I challenge you to find me an elder that isn't mousebrained," he grinned, smirking daringly at her. Sharkpaw took another step closer, the wind blowing through his soft and downy fur. It seemed like both of them had forgotten about hunting, or about the pathetic mousetail that Kindlepaw had caught. With a smile on his face, Sharkpaw stepped closer to her. "I've decided!" the apprentice mewed triumphantly. "I am... going to call you princess from now on," though his words were friendly and cheerful, Sharkpaw still took care to look down when he spoke or open his mouth as little as possible.
An astonished look came over his features at her next comment. "Hey!" he protested, not suceeding in hiding the laugh in his voice. The tom padded forward, batting her over the ear playfully. "You're one to talk, what with stalking mousetails! Any cat would swear that you've gone completely batty," he mewed, then adding: "Princess."
He liked her, he really did. Kindlepaw was a good friend, he realized now. She didn't care about his teeth fangs at all. It was nice to be normal around someone, instead of just being liked for his strange features. It was annoying, to have friends simply because you were 'unique', and those other cats just wanted to be around a 'unique' cat. Though he supposed it was better than getting made fun of.[/blockquote]

Kindlepaw's eyes glinted at the mention of a challenge. She puffed out her chest and lashed her tail, purring with amusement. "I accept your challenge, Sharkpaw!" Kindlepaw's ears twitched as the tom said he'd decided. Decided what? And then he said it. Princess. That was dangerously close to a kittypet name! "Oh, fine. Then you can be..." Kindlepaw purred. "the prince!" Giving little mrows of laughter, Kindlepaw had to wait a moment to catch her breath before responding to Sharkpaw's teasing comment. "Well... atleast I was stalking something! she panted, watching as Sharkpaw padded ever closer and tried to swat her over the ears. She couldn't dodge -- she was far too out of breath from laughing for that, oh, no -- but she did retaliate. Kindlepaw bent over, took the mousetail in her jaws, and flung it at Sharkpaw. "You made the mousetail mad!" she meowed playfully. Let's see what he did now, with a angry mousetail coming for him! Aah, how nice it was to have some genuine fun again, and with a good buddy like Sharkpaw. He really could be a good friend once you got to know him. Kindlepaw had forgotten all about his teeth, not that they were anything important. Teeth were teeth, and that's that. Instead, as the mousetail flew through the air at Sharkpaw, Kindlepaw began wondering about the non-mousebrain elders in her Clan.. If there were any, of course. ooc|| Mousetail, I choose you!
