tacitpaw
He was a dark shape against the light terrain. A phantom wraith against the pure snow. A dark shadow against the blinding whiteness. No, he wasn't the best cat for winter camouflage. Still, the lean black tom managed to catch enough. The snow was soft and powdery, and he moved through it with ease. His mouth was open, strangely vague without the sight of a tongue. His golden eyes were narrowed as she ploughed lightly through the snow. Kissedmagic had told him to try some hunting close to camp- well, did as best she could to tell him. There had been some head jerking and some grunting on his part, and Kissedmagic had seemed to agree. Oh, Clearstar was going to regret that she put two mute togethers and expected him to learn. Tacitpaw would be surprised if he learned anything complicated. Sure, he could watch Kissedmagic bend down in stances but she couldn't name the border Clans or landmarks, give him specific orders in battle or anything...
This wasn't going to work out well. That was basically what was flowing through Tacitpaw's head at the moment. He wouldn't even bother trying to hunt. He was a black shape against the snow, and barely any animals were out right now.
OOC for spice with fable (: [/blockquote]

Fablepaw She drifted slowly through the snow, in a world of her own. She imagined she was somewhere else, far away, drifiting peacefully along. Fablepaw blinked and came back to earth, looking around at the trees covered in snow. Snow was very pretty, but not very practical. It made her paws cold and the prey was not nearly so easy to catch. Still, it wouldn't be here forever. Her cerulean eyes blinked as she noticed a black shape, recognising her fellow apprentice. "Hello Tacitpaw" she said quietly, her voice sweet but not nearly as high and kit-like as in earlier moons. "What are you doing out here by yourself?" she asked him, knowing that although he couldn't talk he would try to explain himself somehow. Fablepaw could only hope that she would understand him. tacitpaw
Tacitpaw was in the midst of pretending the hunt when he scented another cat. Pausing to taste the air, he realized that it was one of his fellow apprentices. It was the distant she-cat, the one that was apprenticed to... what was he called? Right, Brokencalling. What was her name again? Fablepaw, his mind told him. That was it, Fablepaw. But it wasn't like the she-cat would know if he knew her name or not. After all, the tom couldn't talk. With a sigh, he wondered if she was going to gawk at him like the younger apprentices did. The older ones left him alone, and that was fine by him. He preferred it that way. Though Fablepaw didn't seem like the type to gawk. Tacitpaw stood rigid as she approached, even his tail stiff. When she greeted him, the black tom lowered his eyes towards the snow and twisted his ears in greeting. One of the first things that he had learned was to just be quiet.
Like he had a choice.
Trying to think up a reason to explain what he was doing out here, Tacitpaw shrugged. He raised his gaze to meet hers again, licking the snow off of his muzzle carefully. He jerked his head back towards what was hopefully camp before lowering himself into a hunting crouch and pretending to stalk through the snow. Fablepaw would understand him. His gestures were obvious, and it wasn't like there was a whole array of other things he could be doing out here. Once he was done his explanation, he stood there, eyes on her chest. He didn't want to meet her eyes. Fablepaw was always a mature cat, and Tacitpaw really didn't think that she would appreciate it if he tried to be really friendly and bold, like he was around other she-cats.

Fablepaw Fablepaw nodded as Tacitpaw showed her why he was out of camp. "Oh, I see. Do you mind if I join you? Hunting is more interesting if you are with someone" she said softly with a smile, her stance relaxed. She liked not having to keep up a conversation, it was so much easier, more comfortable somehow. She never was a big talker and wondered if her and Tacitpaw would make friends. Someone to be silent with sounded like a dream to her, it was so nice. She smiled slightly at the thought and raised her head to meet Tacitpaw's eyes again, before seeing he held his gaze dropped. She lowered hers again, so as not to make him uncomfortable, and waited for a reply. [/sub]

tacitpaw
There was a slight twitch on one side of the tom's mouth as she replied to him. So at least this she-cat wasn't completely mousebrained. He studied her carefully, brilliant golden optics narrow. She had a slight frame, yet she didn't seem delicate to him. Her eyes were sharp with intelligence, and it seemed to Tacitpaw that she thought above everyone else. That she was above some of the smaller conflicts. For that, the black tom respected her. Enough to give her an answer that was more than a shrug. So he shrugged his shoulders in acceptance- He couldn't stop her from hunting with him- before lightly padding over and pressing his muzzle to her shoulder. There, now she would realize he was being friendly and not just accepting. The tom's eyes shone with a slightly amiable expression as he padded back through the snow. He jerked his head towards the left, where a deeper grove of trees stood and flicked his tail towards them as well.[/blockquote]

Fablepaw The spotted she-cat kept her head lowered, feeling Tacitpaw's golden eyes studying her hard. Eventually, she looked up, in time to see him shrug and pad forwards. At the touch to her shoulder, she felt a ripple pass through her. She smiled slightly, glad that he, well she hoped, liked her. Fablepaw turned as he did, watching him signal towards the trees. She nodded, not feeling the need to speak when Tacitpaw couldn't himself. She trotted forwards neatly into the trees, cerulean eyes focusing on the undergrowth. Although she had not been out with her own mentor, as he was in the medicine cat den, her father had been taking her out with himself and Hurricanepaw, so she still knew what she was doing. her ears focused and she heard a soft scurrying in the undergrowth. Creeping forwards, close to the ground she sized up her position. Then she sprang, killing the mouse with a sharp bite to its neck. She trotted back out into the open, waiting for Tacitpaw to reappear with his own kill. [/sub]

tacitpaw
Tacitpaw cast another glance at Fablepaw, glad she wasn't talking anymore. He was grateful for the peace and silence. He looked at her with respect, having finally found someone in this Clan that wasn't all about fun and games and popularity. Tacitpaw wasn't unpopular, but he preffered to stay out of things. Stay at the back. It was nice to find someone who couldn't care less. With an amiable nod, Tacitpaw disappeared into the bushes. He dropped into a crouch, padding silently forwards to catch his prey. He scented quickly, eyes narrowing before he pounced. The tom trabbed a vole between his paws as it was popping out of the snow. The apprentice had barely made a rustle as he had padded through the crackling snow. Taking his prey in his mouth, he turned back towards Fablepaw.
Padding up next to her, Tacitpaw let their coats brush slightly. He wasn't afraid of making a bad impression in front of her. Fablepaw wasn't about to judge him, so he might as well be friendly. Digging a slight hole at the base of a tree, Tacitpaw dropped his prey in before nudging her and pointing his tail towards it. Life was hard when you couldn't say anything. Sure he could get his message across, but he couldn't keep up a running conversation, much less comment on the weather.[/blockquote]

Fablepaw A shiver ran down her spine as her pelt brushed with Tacitpaw's and Fablepaw was amazed to feel a hot flush run over her cheeks. She never blushed. Slightly distracted she jumped to see Tacitpaw looking at her, his tail pointing towards a hole in the ground. She stayed quiet for a moment, trying to see what she had missed. Oh! Her prey! She nodded her thanks to the ebony tom, dropping her prey in the hole before covering it with snow again. "Shall we try for one more bit each? Then we should go back, I think, its quite cold. Unless you would rather stay out?" she asked him, shuffling her paws to stop them from going numb. [/sub]

tacitpaw
Fablepaw seemed a little bit flustered after they had touched, and Tacitpaw couldn't help feeling a little smug. He quickly buried their prey, which was pretty good if you considered how long they had been hunting and how horrible the wather was. He turned back to Fablepaw, cocking his head as she began to talk. The tom shrugged, a slight smirk on his face. Then his eyes widened slightly, glittering with mischief. He opened his mouth in an expression of fake surprise, taking a step back and gesturing with his tail to behind her. When Fablepaw turned to see what was the matter, Tacitpaw crouched and leapt on her, knocking her down into the snow. Playfully holding her down, Tacitpaw let out a soft purr. They could stay out a little longer, but no one said that they had to hunt.
ooc sorry for the powerplaying ^^ [/blockquote]

Fablepaw Her eyes narrowed slightly as Fablepaw noticed Tacitpaw's michevious expression. At his shocked expression her head whipped round, stance tense. Seeing nothing there she blinked in confusion before she was knocked off her feet. A rare shreek escaped her jaws until she suddenly realised that the weight on top of her was Tacitpaw. "Don't do that! she gasped, staring up at Tacitpaw. As his golden eyes bored down into hers she was very suddenly aware that she wasn't breathing. Her heart sped up however, and a tiny gasp escaped her, sending a shiver down her spine. At the tom's solft purr an intense feeling made her go rigid. Fablepaw blinked in surprise. This never happened to her. "Tacitpaw, I..." she faltered, her gaze dropping. Was this the right time to say? "I feel like we are more than just friends" she whispered, keeping her eyes glued downwards as she waited for his response. [/sub]

tacitpaw
The tom grinned, eyes sparkling as he held her down. But the glimmer in them was soon extinguished as she let out a shriek of rage. Tacitpaw licked his muzzle, slowly stepping backwards. But then Fablepaw started talking. Tacitpaw bent down so he could better hear her soft voice. Her words left him standing shock still. He was astounded. What was she trying to say? That she wanted them to be more than friends? But they were just apprentices. Tacitpaw had to admit, he had been flirting a bit earlier, touching her muzzle and pelt. But he was always more carefree when there weren't other toms around. But the black tom couldn't deny their obvious chemistry. It was there, so obviously there, and he felt it whenever he was around her. The tom opened his mouth, but of course, no words came out. He was grateful to not be able to talk. He had no clue what to say, or what to even think.
He was used to at least keeping his thoughts for himself. But now it felt like Fablepaw was coming into his thoughts, like she was able to read him because of this emotional connection that they shared. Tacitpaw cringed at the thought of losing himself, not aware that the she-cat might take his cringe the wrong way.[/blockquote]

Fablepaw The spotted she-cat felt like her heart had just fallen to her paws. He had cringed. Cringed at the thought of being with her. Her head swam as her eyes filled with tears and Fablepaw stumbled backwards as she tried to regain control of herself. Not being completely calm and collected totally unnerved the she-cat, as she was so used to it being so. She was always aware of what was happening, she never asked stupid questions. But she had just asked one and had obviously completely misjudged the situation. "I..." she managed to choke out, before turning tail and running into the trees. [/sub]

tacitpaw
Tacitpaw realized his mistake when she ran from him. Shocked, the black apprentice stood there, unsure of what to do. She was running from him, obviously upset by his cringe. But he hadn't mean it like that! No, he had just been unsure of himself, and what it would mean to be in a relationship. Tacitpaw took a few unsteady steps after her. He wanted to call out her name, but the tom couldn't. He trembled slightly, sarcastically going over the situation in his head. Nice going, Tacitpaw. You just lost what, your only close friend? Were they even friends? Were they friends in the first place? Tacitpaw let out a grunt, heavy and hoarse. Why couldn't he talk? Why couldn't he tell her to come back? Why couldn't he let her know that he did like her, he really did.
Why?
