flaxfeather He wasn't sure how long he had been stumbling in the snow for, white whipping at him from every side. He spat out a mouthful of snowflakes, his powder green eyes screwed up painfully against the glare. Flaxfeather's thick fur was flat to his body in the strong wind, making him look smaller. He had long lost Runespell's scent, but he did not know that his father had in fact returned to camp, sensibly. Flaxfeather had no such luck. He had no idea where he was. He could be on another clan's territory for all he knew. The ginger tabby wheeled around, and very nearly hit his nose painfully off a tree. It took him a moment to register what he saw. It was an oak tree.. He recognized the pattern of the bark and the scent, faint through the driving blizzard. And there was a huge gaping mouth in one side. Flaxfeather snaked inside, his whole body shivering. He thanked StarClan for letting him find shelter.
He froze as a voice reached him. He couldn't make out the words through the howling, but it strummed the cords of his mind. Who was it? A familiar tortoiseshell face suddenly greeted him. Even fringed with snow, Leafblade was beautiful. "Yes, it's me. It's me." Flaxfeather reached forward to pull her inside carefully. It looked like they would both be stuck here for some time.

leafblade The she-cat let out a sigh or relief as she was pulled into the hollow tree. Thank StarClan for finding him safe, and somewhat warm. She pressed her body against his, her own body blocking the wind as is rushed past the tree. Leafblade's frame shook, getting worse by the minute as she let herself indulge in Flaxfeather's scent. The soothing smell making her calm, but the shaking still continued. How her mother managed the winter was a mystery to her, but yet, little Leafblade had acquired her mother's shirt pelt, not made for the cold. "A..a..a..are you alright...t...t" She stuttered as cold wracked her body, making her cringe as the wind shook the tree around them. Y..y...y..you father c..c..c..came back alittle after you l..l..left" She managed to spit out before her body shook and made her unable to speak.
Ugh. How she wished it was New-leaf and not Leaf-Bare. A low whimper came out of her as her legs collapsed from her joint locking, her body becoming limp as she opened her leaf-green eyes, looking up at the handsome tom, waiting for his answer.

flaxfeather The fluffy ginger tabby tom could feel how cold she was through his own thick fur. He pressed closer to her, ashamed that she had risked her life just for him. Relief hit him as the tortoiseshell explained that Runespell was safe. He had felt a failure when he had been unable to locate his father. Flaxfeather leant over to pull Leafblade close as she collapsed fully. He licked her between the ears with his warm tongue. "You idiot. You shouldn't have come after me. I'm not worth it. You're far more valuable than I am. I couldn't bear it if anything happened to you and it was my fault..." He blinked down at his wide forepaws, his powder green eyes troubled and confused. Emotions cracked like static between them. He couldn't help remembering what Leafblade had told him earlier, before he had fled. But did he want that kind of responsibility? Still, it was hard to resist her. She was so beautiful.
And then it was done. Flaxfeather backed away from her. "I'm sorry, Leafblade, I..." He looked down, anxious that she would be angry. He swayed his tail awkwardly from side to side, his expression sheepish.

leafblade The she-cat pressed her small body against his, breathing in his warm scent as his warmth spread through her. Leafblade's tail flicked across his mouth as he finished speaking, shaking her head already. It wouldn't be his fault. It would be her own. She really was her father's daughter. Like her father, the tortoiseshell was stubborn, refusing anything that involves ordering her around. Reaching up, the she-cat licked his muzzle. "I'm not your responsibility, Flaxfeather. I can take care of myself. You don't have to worry" Leafblade mewed softly her voice becoming stronger as she spoke. "Of course I'm an idiot. I fell in love with the tom who'd father and older sister hates my guts. And I couldn't just leave you out here. That would be cruel." She finished, then let out a small sigh
The she-cat collapsed down as he moved away, her breathing labored and quick as she tried to think of some type of response. What had just happened? Leafblade raised her head, looking at the tom as he spoke. "It's....fine....I wouldn't expect something other then that related to this" She managed to say as the warmth left her body and she pulled herself up, starting towards him hesitantly.

flaxfeather The fluffy tom blinked. There it was again. That word. Love. That word that sent ripples of intense worry through him. He wasn't sure whether he could tell her he felt the same. It wouldn't be fair to lead her along, but... What the hell had he just done? This was all turning into a big, sticky mess. Flaxfeather felt the burning urge to be away from this she-cat, the she-cat that made him do things he didn't mean to do with her beautiful eyes. But at the same time, he wanted to be close to her. He staggered away from her as she hesitantly approached him again. "I'm sorry, that was a mistake," he mewed mechanically. He didn't know what else to say. His head was just a big messed up pit of emotions. "We should try to get back to camp. We'll freeze out here." He stared at his wide paws as he said this, afraid that if he looked at her he would do something else impulsive and stupid.

leafblade The she-cat stopped moving, sitting down where she was and looking away from the tom. Yes...she didn't fully understand what had just happened. It was just a blurr in her eyes, nothing more then that. Letting out a sigh, she finally looked up, tail tip twitching as she wrapped it around her body. Leafblade shook her head, trying to clear the ringing in it. "It's alright, Flaxfeather" She murmured, looking out into the snow as it slowly let up. She could see through it now, and as she heard his words, she stood up and without another word, slipped out into the snow. Automatically, she was blasted with the power, whipping across her face

flaxfeather The large tom seemed to barely hear Leafblade's words. He felt an overwhelming need to be away from her. As she padded out into the snow, Flaxfeather whisked after her, his thick tail held high as though to cut through the snow like a knife. He walked on, picking up the pace so that he hurried past. It wasn't just worry that the snowstorm was dangerous - it was worry of what Leafblade's presence would make him do next. Flaxfeather felt snow pelt his face but ignored it. He had to get home, to throw himself into his family, to distract himself from the emotions churning inside of him like a bad piece of fresh kill. Flaxfeather cried out in relief as he spotted familiar brambles through the screen of white. The ginger tabby thundered towards it, his paws making no sound in the blanket of snow, and burst back into the BrightClan camp. It was almost as if none of this, this terrible mistake, had ever even occured.

leafblade The she-cat watched as Flaxfeather trotted ahead of her, his orange fur disappearing into the snow, but his scent lingered in the air. She felt so weak..so very weak. And this bothered her. She knew it wasn't good to feel that way. Not now. Not in the snow. But still, Leafblade felt weak. Padding slowly through the forest, she felt something stir inside her. Flaxfeather didn't care about her...not in the way the she did about him. It wasn't fair for her. Perhaps she should just give up?
No...that's not what her father did. In the beginning, that's not what Runespell did when she fell from the tree, and her breathing almost stopped. Not after what both of them went through, would she stop now. Her green eyes, now filled with confusion, padded through the camp entrance, starting towards the warrior's den and slipping inside, padding away from the family and towards the back where her nest was.
Away from the family she longed to belong to. Away from the love she wished to have. Away from the tom that meant the world to her. And as she lay down, Leafblade let a silent sob go through her body.
