Cypresspaw Don’t you tell me how life should be... A fluffy ginger and white tom flew out of the apprentice's den, yowling loudly. "There's no need for anyone to fear now, 'cause Cypresspaw is here!" The young tom pranced into the middle of the clearing. "I will strike down all Brightclan's enemies, and put my life on the line for any of my clan mates!" Cypresspaw gasped, bristling. "An enemy!" The young cat ran forward, pouncing on an invisible enemy. He yowled, rolling and lashing out at air.

quailpaw Inside the apprentices' den, Quailpaw heard a voice and stirred. She lifted her head, blinking sleepily. She had gone to sleep, hoping that when she awoke the cats from the Gathering would have returned. She got to her paws, glancing up at the sky. It was as black as basalt, the moon a glowing silver sphere. Surely they weren't back already? Quailpaw poked her head from the ferns. No, it was only Cyresspaw. The she-cat yawned and pulled herself fully from the apprentices' den. She felt vaguely lonely without Tornadocloud, but she told herself it wouldn't be long before he returned. Quailpaw sat down comfortably outside the den, her lime green eyes fixed on Cypresspaw. Her sleek, chocolate-coloured tabby coat gleamed in the moonlight, and her white chest and paws seemed to shine like snow in the gloom. "What are you doing?" she giggled at the younger apprentice.

Cypresspaw Don’t you tell me how life should be... Cypresspaw looked up briefly from his imaginary enemy. "No Quailpaw, stay away! This one's dangerous! The most powerful cat I've ever fought!" As if to prove his point, Cypresspaw launched himself into the air, pretending to have been struck hard by his opponent. He rolled along for a few moments, before stopping and quickly moving into a more dramatic position.
"No...The great Cypresspaw has been defeated. I'm sorry! I... can't go on...Quailpaw...save yourself..." He meowed, waving a paw in the air, his eyes half closed, before flopping in a dead-like way.

quailpaw Quailpaw smiled as she watched the striped ginger cat playing with kitlike energy. The she-cat got to her paws, drawing her tongue over her silky white chest fur a couple of times. She played along, running to the side, her expression determined. "No, Cypressthorn, I won't leave you to die!" She too had heard the tale of the former deputy from Lunarmyth. "I, Quailpaw, apprentice of BrightClan, will save you!" She leapt into the 'fray', pawing at imaginary enemies. As Cypresspaw rolled past her, she gave a mock gasp. "No! Am I too late?" She crouched over Cypresspaw, pretending to check his breathing. She then took his scruff in her mouth (being careful not to use her teeth) and dragged him back to the apprentices' den. "Oh no, Cypressthorn can't be dead!" she exclaimed, shaking him with her slim, snowy forepaws.

Cypresspaw Don’t you tell me how life should be... Cypresspaw hung limply from Quailpaw's mouth as he allowed her to drag him into the apprentice's den. When se began shaking him, he burst into a fit of giggles. He sat up, regaining his serious expression. "Yes, Quailpaw, you are quite right. I, Cypressthorn, am too awesome to be dead! Therefore, I am aliiiiive!" The ginger and white tom hopped up and down playfully.

The meaningless imagination The driving force that creates you Give it your whole body and soul
"Oh thank heavens! I was afraid mighty Ghostlystar would have to lead the Clan by himself."
A gentle voice came from the nursery, and Northrain stepped out into the moonlight, shaking some straw and moss from her shaggy blue-gray pelt. She smiled at Quailpaw and Cypresspaw, quite entertained by their acts. "I don't know how BrightClan would survive without the legendary Cypressthorn as their 'awesome' deputy." She stifled a laugh behind a shaggy paw as she looked over at the two. She wondered if they were destined to be mates in the future. The two were quite cute together.
The queen's eyes sparkled a bit. "Have you guys finished your chores? I want Ghostlystar to come home to a nice clean Clan by the time the Gathering's over. I'm sure he'll thank his 'deputy' and valuable apprentice Quailpaw." She grinned at the two. The she-cat had been left in charge of the nursery while the other queens and some of the Clan had left for the Gathering.

quailpaw The tabby she-cat continued to shake Cypresspaw, then curved her paws into tickling weapons and began to scrabble at his stomach until he jumped upright. Quailpaw pretended to gasp in awe. "I knew it! I knew the great Cypressthorn would not be thwarted by a mere rogue!" The she-cat turned as Northrain and blushed a little, embarrased. She smoothened the fur on her face with one paw. She felt uncomfortable to be found playing like a kit, when her warrior ceremony was surely only moons away. She smiled uncertainly. "Um, no, we havn't done the nursery yet," she mewed, wondering if that was what Northrain was hankering at. "We could do it now, couldn't we, Cypresspaw? D'you think we need any more help?"

Cypresspaw Don’t you tell me how life should be... Cypresspaw turned as Northrain spoke. He grinned cheesily at her. "Hi Northrain!" He meowed, running up to greet her by giving her a gentle nudge with his nose. "Our chores? Oh yeah!" He turned to Quailpaw. "Yeah you're right, we can go clean the nursery and make it sparkly clean again!" The young tom pondered Quailpaw's question for a moment. "Hmmm, I dunno, I mean I think we can handle cleaning the nursery ourselves. Especially me, the great Cypressthorn." He grinned, standing heroically.

The gentle she-cat patted Cypresspaw lovingly, having considered the young tom as one of her own since she became a queen. "Mythkit's awake with Albatrosskit. Requiemkit and Lynxkit are sleeping, along with Gracewhisper's litter. Be careful, okay?" She smiled at the two cats as they entered the nursery. Needing to stretch her legs, she padded out and helped the two grab some moss and pine needles for the nursery. The she-cat dwarfed the two apprentices but it equalled how big her heart was.

quailpaw The dark brown tabby she-cat watched, a look of amusement crossed with anxiety on her face as Cypresspaw rushed up to Northrain, as though she wasn't sure whether to smile or not. The apprentice nodded at Northrain's words, telling herself sharply to be as quiet as a mouse. She loved kits, and didn't much fancy dealing with an angry mother if she upset one. Besides, she would feel unbearably upset if she made a kit cry. "Come on then, Cypresspaw," she mewed to the younger apprentice. The sleek-coated tabby padded into thr woods after Northrain. Quailpaw seized as much moss and leaves as she could with her paws and rolled it along the grass until she reached the nursery. She padded in, deciding to tackle the nest that Frostedwing had occupied until only recently. She rolled the dirty bedding up and took it out of the nursery, batting it into the bushes behind.

Cypresspaw Don’t you tell me how life should be... Cypresspaw followed Quailpaw into the nursery, taking care not to wake any sleeping kits. He grabbed some dirty bedding and began dragging it out of the den. After he had finished having a rather over-dramatic battle with the moss, he noticed a kit sat at the camp entrance.
Cypresspaw skipped over to Illusionkit. He stood beside the kit, and looked from him to the forest. After a moment, he spoke. "Hi Illusionkit! You want to see the forest properly, don't you?" The young tom asked, making sure that he phrased his questions in such a way that the kit could just nod or shake his head. "I tried to leave camp all the time, I couldn't wait to see the forest! I'm not saying you should go out there though, it's dangerous, even for me." He smiled kindly at Illusionkit.

quailpaw The dark brown tabby she-cat fetched some clean, new moss. She kneaded the furry green plant with her paws for a moment, smiling, before carrying it back to the nursery. She placed it down, spreading it out carefully, ready for the next she-cat who needed it. Quailpaw then exited the milky-scented den. She spotted Cypresspaw stood by the camp entrance. She felt a prickle of annoyance. He was supposed to be helping her, not standing there doing nothing. The pretty apprentice strode over to her denmate, only to see him speaking with Illusionkit. She smiled gently down at the small cat. Quailpaw then realised what the kit had been intending to do. "No, oh no, he can't leave the camp!" she mewed. She imagined his mother's face. As is she wasn't already tormented enough. "Illusionkit, c'mon, you need to go back to the nursery, okay?"
