a preformance by aetherkit.
Wind whistled through the clearing, tickling the ears of a small tabby kitten. He was sleeping, peacefully at that, just outside the nursery that he called home. Aetherkit had been waiting patiantly for his father to return from his hunting trip, but had nodded off to sleep in the process. Sunshine warmed his back, lulling him even more off to the land of dreams. The tomkit's sides rose up and down, up and down, as if following a nonexistant mentronome.
Just across the SerenityClan camp, something else was bouncing up and down, as well. An oak leaf, probably gusted in from the forest, tumbled along the ground in a much more jerky fashion than the tomkit's lungs. It rolled and skirted around most of the clearing, the wind seeming to play games with it. Around and around... until it finally blew past Aetherkit's burgundy nose. He prompty sneezed, tickled by the leaf, and blinked his olivine eyes open in surprise. He glanced around, surprised, but found no other cat around him who could have woken him up. His maw parted in a yawn as he got up and stretched.
Just then, out from the nursery came his brother Toxickit. His eyes were wide as the other tomkit chased his tail in tight circles, obviously enjoying himself. Aetherkit grinned bashfully. "Hi Toxickit." he mewed in his breezy little voice. His brother jumped suddenly, twisting in the air and landing with his jaw just an inch from Aetherkit's nose. Aetherkit jumped back, startled, his eyes wide. "Ha, Aetherkit, you're a scardy-cat. But that's okay," Toxickit teased, and Aetherkit shuffled his paws in the dirt.
"Come on, I wanna wake up Amaranthkit and Brokenkit." Toxickit flicked his tail and Aetherkit followed him back into the nursery. He liked the way the nursery air felt, warm and full of the scents of earth and milk. When the two brothers reached the nest that they shared with their siblings and mother, Aetherkit saw that his sisters were sleeping just as deeply as he had been a few moments ago. "Maybe... maybe we shouldn't wake them up..." he suggested, his mew drowned out by Brokenkit's meows of protest and Amaranthkit shuffling in the moss as Toxickit shook them awake.
Once Brokenkit and Amatanthkit were no longer sleeping or complaining (it took a while), Toxickit turned on all three of them. "Alrighty! Who wants to go with me to the medicine cat's den! We're gonna surprise Runningcloud and sort out all the herbs!" This resulted in the following string of mews:
"Do what you want; I'm going back to sleep."
"What?! Without telling Runningcloud at all?"
"Of course! It's a surprise!"
Amaranthkit continued to point out that it was strictly against the rules to touch anything in the medicine den without permission. Toxickit countered with the fact that if they were really careful, they'd help out Runningcloud a whole lot. Now Amaranthkit was angry and Toxickit demanded, "Okay, Aetherkit! What do you think about all this?"
Aetherkit's head snapped up and he looked from Amaranthkit to Toxickit and back again. They would get in trouble... his belly churned at the thought. He didn't want to be yelled at. Never ever. But Toxickit's gaze was so intense... he felt like crying, the poor little thing. And then he looked at Brokenkit, and he managed to mew in a small voice...
"I w-want to sleep, too..."

I was going to try for Aetherkit, but I don't think I'd win against Kuri. xDD toxickit The sun was rising on what promised to be an oddly warm autumn morning over the SerenityClan camp. Cats began to stir, murmurs of surprise at the pleasent weather filling the previously quiet air. The warmth spread it's fingers into the nursery, caressing the pelts of four kits curled at their mother's flank. One of the kits, a creamy tom with brown splotches along his body, raised his head sleepily. "Aww, Aetherkit, why'd you wake me up?" he grumbled sleepily. The tom kit uncurled, stretching, only to notice that his brother was still asleep. Toxickit's tail quivered in excitement. He had always wanted to sneak out of the camp and explore. Maybe now was his chance! A tiny voice in the back of his skull began to whisper urgently to him. But what about your mother? She'll be so worried! Toxickit shook away the thoughts, and extended a paw in quick sucession, poking awake Aetherkit.
As his brother blinked large dewy eyes at him confusedly, Toxic launched into speech. "Aetherkit, Mamma's asleep, so we could sneak outta the camp, y'see, and she'd never ever even know! Y'see?" Aetherkit looked at him, his expression turning scared. Toxickit refrained from rolling his eyes. "B-but, Toxickit," mewed Aetherkit in a hushed voice. "Won't Mamma be really mad? And we'll, like, get punished." Toxickit danced from paw to paw, desperate to make Aetherkit understand before their mother nd sisters woke up. "No, we won't, because like I said, she won't ever, never, ever know, see?" Aetherkit shuffled his paws for a moment, his nose running. "Well, okay then, I guess," he mewed in a small voice. Toxickit leapt as high as the nursery's top would allow. He then motioned in an exaggerated manner for Aetherkit to follow him, and slipped to the back of the nursery. Aetherkit scuttled after him reluctantly.
Toxickit found the small hole at the back of the nursery and squeezed out. Aetherkit followed, though took far more time. He carefully lifted his paws high, away from any thorns, and pulled his body gingerly through the small gap. As Toxickit took his first step onto the longer forest grass, he heard an accusatory voice behind them. "Where on earth do you two think you are going?" Toxickit's heart sank like a stone in a river. Amaranthkit. He turned to look at his sister. Aetherkit followed suite, trembling, guilt scrawled all over his terrified face. "You know kits aren't supposed to leave camp!" Amaranthkit's fussy tones spilled from her mouth, causing Tpxickit to stare downwards. "And you led Aetherkit into it! He could've been hurt, or anything!" She bustled Aetherkit over to her, shooting a narrow-eyed look at Toxickit, before whipping around and padding back into the nursery, a snivelling Aetherkit following meekly.
As Toxickit watched them, unsmiling, a thought popped into his head. One day I'll get out there! I'll show them!
