Snowflake
The snow-coloured female could feel it coming. She knew she was pregnant. But it was hard to tell Octoberlies. He had a son in his clan, and still hadn't even told him he was his father. What would he do if he found out she was pregnant? She shook her head. Snowflake had to tell him. And she had to tell him today.
Octoberlies? she called into the Warriors' Den. She called softly, because it was still morning, but she knew he would wake up from her voice. As she slid away, she still asked herself what he would do. Anxiety turned in her belly. Would he be mad? Happy? She would find out, when she told him. He would show his true feelings.

Runningcloud // "He might still be in my den, Snowflake..."
A gruff voice slipped out from behind the queen. Runningcloud stood a badger's away, the massive frame of the medicine cat casting a long shadow over Snowflake. She cocked her head, immediately recognizing the queen's pregnancy and uneasiness. Was something the matter?
She approached Snowflake and sat down by her. "Is something wrong...?" Her tail curled around her massive paws, and one could tell she was tired. The trip to the Moonshard and back had been exhausting, especially so soon after battle.

Snowflake
Snowflake looked disappointed. She needed to tell Octoberlies she was pregnant. It's just... I think I'm pregnant... And I need to tell him... But I don't know how he'll take it. She murmured, suddenly wanting to tell Runningcloud all her problems. But she looked tired. She seemed to need some sleep. So she kept her mouth shut. Is he okay? She asked her.

Runningcloud // "So I see..." The massive she-cat nodded her head and flicked her tail in the direction of the medicine den. "Let's talk there. I'll tell Lavenderlace to keep an eye out for him if he's left our den." The massive she-cat came to her paws tinged in bloodstains and grim, turning and trotting alongside Snowflake so she could guide the tired queen to the den. She didn't want the other collapsing and possibly affecting the health of her kits. We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days... Through the fire and the flames we carry on! octoberlies Freedom was something Octoberlies had not experienced for a while. He had almost forgotten what it felt like. But the battle seemed to have awoken the slumbering feelings inside of him, the pride and stubborness of a warrior that had dissolved after his crippling injuries. He was ready to be himself again, to be Octoberlies. Not to be locked up in the medicine den, believing himself useless. Octoberlies had made good use of his new-found freedom, and gone hunting. Many cats were still too weak from the battle with the Tribe to catch their own food, so any fresh kill was welcome. The grey tabby tom was now returning to camp, a mouse and a vole in his mouth. He deposited both on the kill pile, then picked out something big enough to share (a pigeon) and scanned the camp for Snowflake.
"Snowflake?" he mewed, his cerulean eyes swivelling from side to side as he searched the camp for his mate. In the end, he followed her scent into the medicine den, feeling almost guilty, as though he was intruding on something. "Snowflake, are you in here? I got us some fresh kill."

Snowflake
As she followed Runningcloud to the Medicine Den, her mind was whirling. Where was Octoberlies? She looked around for him still. She nodded at Runningcloud and stood in the medicine den, looking for him. His scent was stale. He must've left to hunt or something. She was a little disappointed.
As she was turning to leave, she almost ran straight into him. Octoberlies! She meowed, surprised. Fresh-kill? Thanks! I'm starved. She smiled at him. The butterflies started to flutter in her stomach again. Octoberlies, I have something to tell you. She began. Drawing in a deep breath, she meowed, I'm pregnant.

octoberlies Octoberlies looked briefly bemused, then turned away, looking disappointed. Then he turned, ears flicking upright again, as he heard his mate's voice. He smiled at her, his cerulean eyes warm and bright. "Hi!" he mewed. He nodded at the pigeon. "Yup, look." The slim grey tabby tom sat down happily beside his mate. For once he wasn't worrying about Hyenastrike. He had seen his grown son mooching off early in the morning. He wondered if the muscular warrior was still upset because of his new scar. Octoberlies shook himself out his thoughts as Snowflake spoke. She had something to tell him? Cold fear drenched him. The last time somebody had said that to him,l Butterflypaw had told him that she was seriously ill. Snowflake had been in the medicine den... Octoberlies crouched, cerulean eyes terrified, his breath catching in his throat. He couldn't live without Snowflake, she was his everything, she had saved him, she...
Was pregnant?! Octoberlies's expression cleared and he sat bolt upright. He stared at his mate for a moment, goggle-eyed, then spluttered: "P-pregnant?" The tom took a deep breath, then nuzzled Snowflake's cheek. "Cool, I mean great, I mean, that's..." he was mumbling and rambling, and he knew it. "I just mean that that's great, Snowflake."

Snowflake
hopeless head over heels in the moment I never thought that id get bit by this love bug again Couldnt get your smile out of my mind Thinking about your eyes all the time Your beautiful but you dont even try this is just so hard to fight
Snowflake smiled at Octoberlies. She knew it was hard for him to digest her being pregnant, because it had been hard for her too. I know, it's so cool! We're going to have a family. She meowed softly. Then she nosed him. Thank you Octoberlies, for not being mad. She meowed happily. Then she looked at the pigeon. Mabe we should eat, She laughed. Taking a bite out of it, she looked at Octoberlies and smiled while she chewed, because she was just so happy.

octoberlies Octoberlies smiled sheepishly at his mate. They were going to start a family. It was like a completely fresh start for Octoberlies. He had mucked up his life by falling in love with Butterflypaw, and though he had adored her, he regretted it. He wished this could just be his first litter. He wished that he didn't have a grown son that didn't even know he was his father. Octoberlies took a bite of the pigeon, sighing. He tried, and failed, to look as happy as Snowflake. And it wasn't because she was pregnant. He was over the moon that she was expecting his kits. It was the fact that he such a liar, such a cheapskate. He had never even told Hyenastrike who he was.
This guilty thought made Octoberlies's eyes sting. He realised he had shut them, and opened them quickly. He caught sight of Hyenastrike padding back into camp, head down. Octoberlies flinched at the sight of his son's face. He hadn't had a proper look yet. The scar stretched from his left ear, across his face, down the right side of his neck. The cinder-coloured tabby got to his paws. "Snowflake, it's time," he mewed. "Will you come? I don't.. I don't want to do this on my own." He knew his mate would know what he meant.

Snowflake
I got this awesome amazing, crazy kinda crush on you.
Snowflake took another bite of the pigeon, and looked at Octoberlies. He looked devastated. She followed his gaze and noticed Hyenastrike padding into camp. Her news must've made him remember Hyenastrike. She knew he should tell him soon, but she kept her mouth shut. She was about to ask him what was wrong, when he asked her to come with him. She completely understood. Of course I will. Let's go right now, while he's not doing anything. She meowed. When she stood, she padded to his shoulder and brushed her pelt against his to tell him she was here for him. Let's go for a walk after. Okay? So you can get away from the camp if things go bad. She meowed. Then she started to walk forward. It was now or never.

octoberlies Octoberlies was relieved at Snowflake's reply. He rose alongside her, then pressed his nose to her cheek. "Thanks, Snowflake," he murmured gratefully in her ear. "I don't know what I'd do without you, y'know." The grey tabby tom took a deep breath, then began to pad towards Hyenastrike - his son. The son he had brought back to camp as a tiny, bloodied, newborn kit, along with his sister, Hollykit. But Hollykit had died soon after. Hyenakit had survived. He had never known who Octoberlies was to him, never known the story of his parents' forbidden love affair. The only cats who knew of it were himself, Snowflake, and Jasminestar. Octoberlies had watched his son grow up to become Hyenapaw, then Hyenastrike. It was too much. The truth was beating at his ribcage, fighting to get free.
The cinder-coloured tabby smiled weakly at his son, trying not to stare at the disfiguring scar. "Hi, Hyenastrike," he mewed, his voice light and pleasent. He took another deep breath. "Look, I need to tell you something, something I should have told you moons ago, as soon as you could say my name..." There was a silence. A tiny voice at the back Octoberlies' mind whispered to him. It's not too late to turn back.. He never need know... That lulling voice had earnt him his warrior name, which had haunted him ever since. And he now rejected it.
"You're my son, Hyenastrike." hyenastrike Hyenastrike's day hadn't been brilliant. He still couldn't see out of one eye, but he wasn't complaining. He knew he had to suffer in silence - he was a warrior, for StarClan's sake, not a pitiful kit crying for his mother. (Not that he had a mother.) Hyenastrike had gone for a walk, trying to find some prey and to maybe clear his head, but had failed in both accounts. The light ginger tom had now returned to camp, his head still buzzed like a hornet's nest. The tom crouched near the camp entrance, head ducked, looking unusually defeated. Hyenastrike glanced up as he heard footsteps - two sets of them - coming deliberately towards him. He sighed. He really didn't want company now.
It was Octoberlies. The tom who had rescued him as a kit, who had looked out for him; almost like a father. The father he had never had. And Snowflake, his new mate. Hyenastrike looked at both of them, saying nothing. He waited. Octoberlies seemed to want to say something. Hyenastrike knew that the shifty tabby had always had a problem with keeping his tongue clean of lies. The tom's heart stopped at the bombshell.
Octoberlies? His father. No. It wasn't true. It couldn't be!
"You never told me... You never told me!"

Runningcloud // Runningcloud hailed Octoberlies when the tom neared and bowed her head as the two mates carolled off together. She sighed, sometimes wondering what it would be like if she had stayed deputy or simply a warrior with kits, like Snowflake. She was tidying up her den when she heard a yell. She started, hearing Hyenastrike and wondering if something had happened to her patient. She considered him like her son, like she consider Lavenderlace her daughter (among others), and she wouldn't have him hurt.
The massive femme stepped outside in an attitude of what is going on here. However, when she saw Octoberlies and Hyenastrike, she paused, swallowing a bit. She knew what had happened. "Hyenastrike...," she whispered softly. Runningcloud sat down, knowing that it wasn't her place to butt in.We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days... Snowflake
Snowflake touched her nose to Octoberlies's cheek and smiled. She didn't need to say anyhting. He knew she would be with him until her last breath. As she followed him across the clearing, she thought of how this was going to work out. Surely, Hyenastrike would be mad, but would he hate Octoberlies? That would tear the older warrior apart. Snowflake grimaced. She didn't want to see Octoberlies hurt, but it may happen. And if it did, she would be there for him.
When she reached him finally, he was speaking. Snowflake heard him tell Hyenastrike. At first, the young tom looked confused, so he may be okay with it. But then he looked angry. Almost like he, he hated him. Oh no. Snowflake thought to herself. Octoberlies wouldn't be okay, she was sure.
It's not like she didn't want to console him, it's just she didn't think it would turn out like this. Poor Octoberlies, always seeming to have one thing or another happen to him. And they weren't always good. Snowflake stepped forward, standing close enough for her fur to brush his. Hyenastrike... He wanted to tell you... He really did. She murmured quietly. It wasn't supposed to turn out like this, but it did.

octoberlies Octoberlies's cerulean eyes widened at Hyenastrike's response. The grey tabby tom's ears drooped. He had hoped, when a confused expression had wreathed itself over the large tom's face, that Hyenastrike might forgive him. But then the anger appeared, and Octoberlies had realised that forgiveness had been too much to hope for. He had watched Hyenastrike grow up, and knew the tom well enough to have expected his fury. Octoberlies tried to meet his son's narrow, flaming eye, but found he could not. "Hyenastrike..." he murmured. Snowflake was by his side, Runningcloud, too. The slim tabby took a deep breath, feeling slightly better with them nearby. His pelt brushing his mate's he spoke.
"When I was nine moons old, an apprentice," he began quietly. "I was patrolling by myself. I met a CloudClan apprentice by the border. Her name was Butterflypaw. We talked. We found that we had things in common. So we agreed to meet again. And again. Soon enough we were secret mates, and one day, Butterflypaw told me she was going to have kits." Octoberlies swallowed bitterly, before continuing. "I knew it had gone too far, but there was nothing I could do. Butterflypaw had five kits. Hollykit, Treekit, Barrenkit, Barleykit and you; Hyenakit. I took you and Hollykit back to camp, saying I had found you abandoned in the forest. Soon after, Hollykit died of Greencough."
"When you were barely a moon old. Butterflypaw came to see me. She told me that she was ill, and there was nothing the medicine cat could do. A few moons later, I heard that she had died. My kits died with her," he mewed, his voice sad. "I only had you left. But I didn't dare tell you who I was. And Hyenastrike, you've made me so proud, and..." He hesitated, then carried on, voice soft but genuine. "I'm sorry." hyenastrike Hyenastrike glared at Octoberlies - his father - in utter disbelief and fury. He opened his mouth to speak again, but unningcloud cut across him. The prickly young warrior shot her a glare, his expression venomous. The muscular tom listened to Octoberlies's tale, his ears half-pricked, his expression still utterly furious. When the story finished, and Snowflake spoke, her voice pleading, Hyenastrike finally had the chance to talk again. "You're sorry? You're sorry?" his voice was soft with anger. "D'you think this is some story you can tell me like when I was a kit, when you'd just tuck me up to a happy ending?" he spat. "This is real life." The tom switched his furious, bewildered glare onto Snowflake as she pleaded with him.
"If he wanted to tell me that much, he would have," he snarled. He then swung back around to face Octoberlies. "Here, look, you can start a brand new family. Screw the old one, that was just a mistake. I had so many dreams, of my parents," he mewed, his voice lowering and becoming bitter. "Now I know the truth. My father is a pathetic liar and my mother was a CloudClanner."
"Thanks a lot, father."

Snowflake
That I was being such a fool That I didn't deserve you dont wanna fall asleep cause I dont know if ill get up & I dont wanna cause a scene but im dyin without your love begging to hear your voice tell me you love me too cause I'd rather just be alone if I know that I cant have you
Snowflake's eyes started to sting. She bit back tears. She knew Hyenastrike would end up acting like this, but it was too much for her to watch Octoberlies pretty much break apart. Snowflake pressed her nose into Octoberlies's shoulder, reminding him she was here.
when Hyenastrike called Octoberlies a pathetic liar, she glanced upwards and stared at him. How could you ever say that? Octoberlies has been nothing but a silent guardian. He watched you from when you were a kit until now. He didn't want to hurt you by telling you the truth. Do you know how much this has been killing him? Give him a chance. You'd like him. She meowed simply. Snowflake took a pace forward. You may think you have it hard, but you have royalties compared to Octoberlies. He's reminded every day of the lie he was living. And now he chooses to tell you and you hate him for it. I totally understand why you would, but you need to cut him a break. He's a great cat, I would know. After that, she fell silent, stepping back and pressing her pelt against Octoberlies's for his comfort and hers.

hyenastrike Hyenastrike stared at Snowflake, his face filled with anger. The tom's green eyes flashed with rage at her words. "Royalties?" he spat. "Oh yes, brilliant, being teased so having no parents. I really enjoyed being called pathetic because I had no father to live up to." The muscular tom glared at Snowflake. "He had every chance to tell me. Why didn't he just tell me I was a kit? Kit's don't care!" Hyenatrike laughed sarcastically at the she-cat's words. "Forgive him? Why?" The tom's voice changed, becoming filled with hurt and bitterness, rather than anger. "It's too late. Moons too late."
The young tom turned, and stalked from the camp. Thoughts whirled in his brain like a tornado. Anger and a sense of betrayal blended with misery, hurt and bitterness made his head spin. The tom felt tears in his ears, and stormed on. He wouldn't let anybody see him cry.
Ever. octoberlies Octoberlies was silent as an argument threatened to break out. He flinched first at what Snowflake was saying, then again at what his son spat. Great, that just made it all worse! Octoberlies shied away from his mate and took a step after Hyenastrike. "Hyenastrike, please!" he cried, misery in his voice. The tom stepped back, head drooping, his ears flat. Everything had gone wrong. Hyenastrike hated him. He had known, somewhere at the back of his mind, that speaking out could only ever end in this. What had he expected? Hyenastrike to forgive him a celebrate? He was a joke. Nobody would want him as a father. Octoberlies stared at his paws, trying not to cry out. He felt like a kit that had tried to do something good, but only ended up being shouted at anyway.
Octoberlies did not look at Snowflake. He knew she had just been trying to help, but maybe, just maybe, if she hadn't spoken to him like that... No, he was being stupid. It wasn't Snowflake's fault. It was just him, trying to shift the blame, to make himself feel better, as usual.
"Why do you love me Snowflake? I'm a monster."

Snowflake
Snowflake couldn't do anything to stop him. She watched the cat leave the camp. Then she turned to Octoberlies. I'm so sorry... I shouldn't have said what I did... I was only trying to help... Now he hates you because of me. I'm so sorry.. She dropped her head. Then she heard his question. I love you because I know the cat on the inside. I know the cat who fell in love with Butterflypaw so many moons ago. The cat who you're trying to hide now. You're no monster. You're my mate. And I don't care what any other cat thinks of us. She meowed quietly. I'm surprised other cats even like me... Since my mother was Chaosfire. She whispered. Then she looked at him. I'd understand if you were mad at me, or even hated me. She murmured.

octoberlies Octoberlies continued to stare at his paws, even as Snowflake began to speak, blaming herself for Hyenastrike's flight. He opened his mouth to tell her that it was his fault, not her's, but couldn't quite unstick his throat. The cinder-coloured tabby did not raise his head until Snowflake had finished speaking. He then spoke. "A cat's parent doesn't always reflect in them," he mewed honestly. "Hyenastrike is a prime example of that. He's nothing like me. Never told a proper lie in his life, that one. He's brave, and courageous... Nothing like me." Octoberlies's eyes swam with sadness as something hit him - Hyenastrike was just like Butterflypaw.
Octoberlies nosed his mate's cheek. "You're nothing like Chaosfire," he murmured to her. "And it wasn't your fault. It was mine. I should have told him sooner. I shouldn't have been such a coward, and told him sooner." The grey tabby inhaled deeply, straightening up. "But it's done, now."

Snowflake
Snowflake looked at Octoberlies. She didn't dare speak until he was finished. She felt terrible The young tom hated his father, and she didn't help anything. If she hadn't opened her mouth, maybe the young tom would feel something nicer towards Octoberlies.
It's a shame he's nothing like you. Maybe he'd be nicer towards you then.. She murmured. Then she pressed her nose to his cheek. I know.. But some cat's going to make the judgement in their head. She murmured sadly. Don't blame yourself. You weren't ready... I'm never ready to admit one of the evilest cats in the forest is my mother.. She meowed quietly. You're right. It's done. We need to get out of the past. Live in the present. She murmured.
