After a fairly long trek, they were here. The sun shone brightly, there wasn't a cloud in the sky - it didn't seem like a day you'd expect to see a murderer crawling around just by your paws, waiting to be killed. Poisongas was a traitor and if she had to, Chartreusesteps would give up her life for the death of that peice of crowfood. Shaking herself, she realized that not once had she caught a whiff of the tom's scent. Scorchedleaf and Cyanpaw were overreacting. She decided, turning to watch as Emeraldpaw followed her. Her voice had a twinge of sarcasm strung into it as she mewoed to him, "See, Emeraldpaw - if we see Poisongas coming, we'll see him from foxlengths away." The area didn't have many trees, but she didn't add that it was easy to sneak through the rocks unnoticed. [/blockquote]

Are you sure? Emeraldpaw Emraldpaw followed his mentor to the Silver Rocks. He gazed around warily, as if Poisongas was right there watching him, waiting to attack. He was afraid that the rogue would come out and kill him then and there. He gazed around . He couldn't see or scent anything out of the ordinary. He nodded in response to Chartreusesteps, but stayed close to her side. 'What should we do if we see him coming?' He asked before he could stop himself. This was sure to get a sarcastic response from his mentor. He hoped that she would see how nervous he was and leave him alone about it. [/sup][/blockquote]

"I'll tell you now," she meowed seriously. Emeraldpaw either missed the mocking tone in her voice or didn't care about it. He really was scared of the peice of crowfood. "You run back to camp. I'll fight him." She stood into a fighting stance, then sat back down again. She needed to show her apprentice not to be scared of every small thing. It was ridiculous! Spitting, she told him, "You're afraid of him because he killed two apprentices and -- what was it? Two metors. He hasn't eaten properly for moons. He's probably scrawny. I thought you were being brave, coming out here, but you don't seem to care." she glared at him, trying to edge any reaction out of the apprentice.

Not sure what to do. Emeraldpaw
Emeraldpaw stared at her. 'I can't let you fight him on your own!' He spluttered. He gaped at her when he heard her speak again. 'I am being brave coming out here! He killed my brothers! I don't know what would happen if I saw him! I might run away, or I might stay and fight him and he could kill me. Or I would attack him and hurt him badly then regret it! Everything's against me! I don't know what to do!' There was a little of the normal Emeraldpaw in the start of his speech, but at the end, it was worries. 'Chartreusesteps! I do care! You have to believe that, it's just that he killed part of my family and I'm afraid that he'll come back for the rest of us, whether you guys can stop it or not.' Though he looked like he was mad at her, he still stayed by her side.

Suddenly, Chartreusesteps' eyes became softer than perhaps anyone had ever seen them. Still, she kept her steady posture as she tapped Emeraldpaw on the shoulder with her tail. The only thin missing was probably a smile as she meowed, "... Good job, Emeraldpaw. You were scared, but you refused to accept the fact that you could just run from the one cat who scares you most." She nodded, looking serious and warm at the same time. Maybe Cagedfaith was right. He was a worthy apprentice. She turned and stalked a few feet away, then meowed, "Try to get yourself by me. If you succeed, you will know how to get away if Poisongas does corner you. I will teach you what you need for your own survival, Emeraldpaw, should Poisongas ever come for you." [/blockquote]

As scared as I may be As terrifying as my ordeal may be. I feel safe, Safe with someone I know I can trust.
Emeraldpaw
Emeraldpaw looked up at Chartreusesteps when she tapped him on the shoulder. 'Thanks... I think?' He mumbled. He listened to her next instruction very closely. He nodded and got into position. He looked over at her, judging space. He looked around, seeing trees and undergrowth. He made a decision. He ran at her and tried to rush past her left side.

Chartreusesteps was most definately not one of those mentors that lets their apprentice win a training session just so that they can feel good. This she-cat wasn't going to let Emeraldpaw by her. Jumping to the side and blocking his path as he veered left, Chartreusesteps stamped her large paws right in front of the tom, making it virtually impossible for him to go any farther. She cuffed Emeraldpaw gently on the ear, correcting his mistake. "You made it much to obvious that you were going to go left," she meowed, signaling the direction with her tailtip. "Try to trick me instead of relying on force." [/blockquote]

As wind through the bellows, As sand through the desert. Nothing's to change the fact, I'm here to stay.
Emeraldpaw
Emeraldpaw nearly crashed into his mentor. He skidded to a stop right in front of her paws. He moved his head away from his mentor when she cuffed him around the ear. He nodded at her when she told him his mistake. 'Okay, I'll try again.' He ran back to the side of the clearing. He gazed around the clearing, trying to find a distraction. He saw a bird flying high in the sky. He let his gaze wander to the bird. All of a sudden, he dashed away from the side of the clearing and right up on Chartreusestep's right side. He swerved at the last moment and tried to get past her left side again.

Was he having some serious trouble concentrating? Or making a feeble attempt to confuse her? Either way, Chartreusesteps stood ready as her apprentice looked loftily at the bird. Just as she was about to sternly correct Emeraldpaw - just when she had let her guard down - he whipped to her right. Was that all? She jumped at him, trying to pin him down, but the green-eyed tomcat just swerved to the left. Unable to find flaw with his technique and also unable to turn her body fast enough, Emeraldpaw got by her easily. "Good," she meowed, flicking some earth from inbetween her claws. "Just remember that in a real battle, you won't have the advantage of patience. Cat's won't wait for you to attack them." she remembered breifly what the battle against the Tribe cats had been like and bowed her head for a heartbeat, reminding herself of how many brave cats - cats like Werewolf - had died valiantly for their Clan.
"You know how the mind of a warrior works. Fight for honor. And, if it comes to it, fight to kill. We'll try some offensive moves now." she paced as far away as she could while still staying on the same massive rock. "I want you to unbalance me, then pin me down. It's an essential move and I believe that you can do it." [/blockquote]

Leaves dangle, Black from the fire. Leaves were scorched By my own desire.
Scorchedleaf
Scorchedleaf hurried through the forest. He wasn't sure where Poisongas might be. He raced down to the Silver Rocks, following Chartreusesteps and Emeraldpaw's scent trails. He stopped as he reached the clearing, crouching down to hear if anything had happened. All he heard was Chartreusesteps talking to Emeraldpaw about fighting techniques. He got back up and padded into the clearing.
Scorchedleaf went right up to Chartreusesteps, fur bristling with fear and fury. 'Are you a mousebrain? You know how much danger he is in. We both know what Poisongas is capable of. Be both knew him before those three knew about them.' He was really mad. He backed up a few paces then spoke again. 'Wovenknot sent me to fetch you two and bring you back to camp.' He tried to calm himself down. Scorchedleaf didn't usually get this aggravated. He paced around the clearing, trying to calm down. He sat down at the entrance to the clearing and waited, finally getting himself to calm down.
The coldness of your green eyes Tell me a story of sorrow. The gentleness of your tone, Tells me something different.
Emeraldpaw Emeraldpaw was just about to start trying to knock down his mentor when Scorchedleaf came bounding to the clearing. Emeraldpaw looked at Scorchedleaf as he yelled at Chartreusesteps. He wanted to intervene, but he was afraid of breaking the almost friendship that he had with his mentor. He sat quietly, listening to Scorchedleaf. When he told them that they had to leave, Emeraldpaw looked at him coldly. 'I take orders from my mentor.' He mewed, padding to her side. [/sup]

Even as Scorchedleaf approached, Chartreusesteps stood stone-still, peridot-green eyes menacingly calm. She listened to the exasted warrior, pondering what Emeraldpaw would say. Surprisingly, he stood beside her, and suddenly she was proud of him for being as strong as he was. Refusing another warrior in favour of their mentor? The choice a true warrior would make. She smiled at him, for the first time. Ever. It was simple and plain, far from 'beaming' at him, but it was a smile. A crack in the perpetual stone.
"We will return when our training session is over," she meowed flatly. "Emeraldpaw can not afford to miss this training. We will end when he finishes the move I asked him to preform." when Poisongas was brought up, she exhaled heavily. She did know what he was capable of, but it didn't matter. She was firm. She had to finish this session. "If you are so afraid of Poisongas, I'm surprised you came out here. If he does attack, rest assured, I will not let harm come to my apprentice." she nodded to Emeraldpaw and resumed her position, a signal to continue training. [/blockquote]

Emeraldpaw Emeraldpaw looked at his mentor as he aawaited instructions. He caught her smile. He felt proud of himself, finally managing to get a smile out of his mentor. He heard her instructions. He went back to his original spot before Scorchedelaf had arrived. He looekd around her, trying to figure out how to unbalance her. He thought of trying to go around her and knock her paws out. I'll look one way and go the other.
Emeraldpaw started the move. He looked to the left, and started to run to the left. At the last moment, he swerved to the right, trying to knock Chartreusestep's paws out from underneath her then to pin her down. Leaves dangle, Black from the fire. Leaves were scorched By my own desire. Scorchedleaf Scorchedleaf looked at Chartreusesteps with fury in his eyes. 'It was a direct order from Wovenknot. You need to go home. Now.' He hissed. All of a sudden, a cat whizzed by from behind him. He had not seen Emeraldpaw go back to his original position. He watched as the apprentice tried to unbalance his mentor.
