Ashenshadow sat at the edge of the camp. The small, thin, black and white tom looked ill, as he often did. At this moment in time, he was weezing and coughing, but trying to keep a low profile. He looked around, trying to make sure the other cats were busy and wouldn't notice too much. He breathed in raggedly, his legs shaking beneath his frail body. He wished he wasn't so weak all the time, all he wanted was to be normal, like the rest of the clan.

// The exit from the medicine den was hesitant, but he finally realized that his mother had been taken in battle. His limbs were shaky from not having been walking on them. He had just needed some time alone after his breakdown. Runningcloud and his sister were gone, at the Medicine Cat Gathering. He sighed and drank water from a nearby pool. The almost-warrior ran a broad paw through his hair and over his muzzle, wondering about his father and mother. He stared at the ground, mentally mushing his pelt hue to that of the earth.
His head lifted as he made his way out of the den. He saw that Jasminestar was giving an announcement so he kept himself on the sidelines. Perhaps he would be given his name today. He hoped so.
He saw Ashenshadow, a warrior, and the brown-haired tom shook his shaggy pelt as he came over to him. "Hello, Ashenshadow," Timberpaw said quietly, his mind still a bit bitter from what had been going on lately.

Ashenshadow saw a cat exit the medicine cat's den out of the corner of his eye, but didn't think too much of it; recently he'd seen many cats going in and out of that den, it had become normal after the devestation of the battle. He coughed loudly, then looked around frantically, hoping no one had heard. He sighed heavily, then looked up as Timberpaw spoke. He put on a small smile, although he was shivering, he tried to hide that fact. "Hey Timberpaw." He meowed, "How are you doing?" He stifled another cough as he waited for the younger tom to reply.

// Ashenshadow's smile was contagious, and Timberpaw found himself smiling despite his bitter mood. He sighed softly. "I'm doing better than I was earlier. I've had a lot on my mind." The tom sat down, shaking his fluffy pelt and curling his long tail around his broad paws. The massive male lifted his leaf-green eyes up to the sickly tom.
"Have you gotten anything for that cough? You know Runningcloud would be attacking it for you if she was here. I'm sure she's got something for you in the den."

Ashenshadow's smiled broadened as the younger tom smiled back. He nodded, "That's understandable, but if you're doing better now, it's a start, right?" He meowed. He rubbed his eyes with a small paw, sniffing. As the apprentice spoke again, this time about the his condition, Ashenshadow sat up straighter, trying to look like he was fine. "Oh, no. I'm fine, I don't need anything." He said hastily. He began to groom himself, trying to hide the fact that his chest was heaving. "I'll be fine." He meowed again, as if that proved it.

// "I suppose you're right," Timberpaw said thoughtfully. The tom ran his large paw over his muzzle before facing Ashenshadow once more. His ears bent back as the other tom spoke. Timberpaw knew something was wrong, even if Ashenshadow was hiding it. He raised his eyebrow suspiciously but decided not to press the issue. He sighed and turned his head towards the ceremony at hand. He knew Ashenshadow hadn't been at the battle so he didn't bring up that issue. Instead, he frowned at the insolent loner.

Ashenshadow shrugged heavily, shaking his head slowly. "Well...she is a loner, so she probably doesn't know much about how to behave in a clan." The tom spoke in a voice of factual indifference; he wasn't going to be overly friendly or harsh about the loner just yet, he didn't even know her yet. He turned away from Timberpaw as he suddenly sneezed. "Ooh." The tom meowed, sniffing and turning back to the apprentice. "Sorry about that."

// "I guess so...but still, common courtesy," he grunted, rolling his shoulders back. The large tom yawned and jumped in surprise when the other male sneezed. He wrinkled his nose. "You should definately see Runningcloud for that," he repeated, giving Ashenshadow a look of 'I think I know what I'm talking about'.

Ashenshadow looked at Timberpaw, an odd look in his eyes. "Maybe...but I'm sick of being in the medicine cat den, to be honest." He meowed, "I think I spend enough time in there already, taking up a nest that some other cat might need." The tom nodded shakily, curling his tail around his small paws. "Still, I don't think it's contagious. So that's one positive thing. I wouldn't want to infect half the clan just because I'm such a stu-" The warrior stopped abruptly, shaking his head, realising he had started to talk rather loudly. "Well...um...just because." He said lamely.
