Though the nest that buoyed her was comfortable, it felt like thorns prickling at her pelt. Violetwisp twisted convulsively, her eyes bulging. The brown tabby she-cat sprang up, pouncing on the moss as though it were a living, breathing, dangerous beast. She clawed at it, her mouth a straight line, her sides heaving, until it was nothing but a few scraps of green fluff on the short grass. The warrioress then gave a high-pitched titter that was somewhere between a laugh and a sob. She sat back, lifted a hind paw to scratch obsessively behind one ear.
Violetwisp then sprang up again, her wide eyes fixed on the shredded bedding as though she was seeing it for the first time. "I didn't do it, it wasn't me, it was him, not me, not me!" The tabby warrior shivered, hunching down. She poked a paw in the direction on Flaxfeather, who was curled on his own nest, snoring softly. "It was you, you dunnit! It was you! You you you! And I'm gonna get the blame, me! I didn't do anything! Me!" Giving her odd strangled giggle, the she-cat twisted around to bite at the base of her tail as though it was excessively irritant. "Not again! Leave me! Leave me!"

"Shhh."
Slatesky appeared from the far side of the den, his massive shoulders making it so he could barely stand upright in the small hollow. He approached Violetwisp slowly, trying to avoid direct eye contact with her. He knew the basics of how to get his sister to become comfortable with you, but Violetwisp's actions were almost always without warning. No matter how careful he was, the slender tabby she-cat could lash out with a strange vicious air at any time. Gently placing the tip of his tail on her shoulder, he gazed at the ripped-up moss and get a fairly good idea of what had happened. "Don't worry," he murmured. Violetwisp was one of the few cats he spoke to, and whenever he did it was in a hushed, quiet voice. "No one's angry with you. The apprentices will get new moss for your bed, okay? Flaxfeather's just sleeping." he took a deep breath as he finished, not sure how Violetwisp would react. He was never sure what Violetwisp thought when she pointed at a cat, but the best he could do was tell her the truth.

Violetwisp twitched as she spotted Slatesky. She eyed him with her wide, bulging eyes for a moment, then recognition flickered over her face. She arched her back, the speckled tabby fur bristling tall. "It was whispering," she whined. "It was whispering, so I shredded it. It spoke and I told it shut up, but it wouldn't listen." Violetwisp turned to Flaxfeather and her eyes were like daggers, digging into the slumbering tom's flesh. "I want it. It's not fair. I want it." Violetwisp gathered the scraps of moss into a little pile and sniffed it. "Won't talk again. Nope, nope, no, no, no. No way." She gave a laugh that sounded almost normal.
Violetwisp poked her head through the ferns. "The trees are talking," she said ominously. The tabby flattened herself to the grass, terrified, her ears flat. Then she sprang up and stood at her brother's side. She then bit at her tail again. "They're here! Bitebitebite! They're eating my soul!"

"Violetwisp..." Slatesky began gently, knowing he had to do something but not sure what to do. What did she want? If only there was a way to understand everything his sister, his dear, dear sister, said! He stood quietly for a minute, then took what he saw as the best route. "You want new bedding? You can't have Flaxfeather's, but --" he cut off suddenly as Violetwisp crouched down, as if to pounce on an invisible enemy, only to stand up again and begin biting at her tail. Her soul? What was here? Could Violetwisp see something that he couldn't? Or was it all in her head? Struggling to keep her thoughts orderly he stood over the tabby, and promised her one thing: "They will never get your soul." He didn't know what they were, but Violetwisp seemed to be frightened of them. "I'll chase them all away." [/blockquote]

Mistyvale opened her stormy eyes as she heard voices in the warriors den. She saw Violetwisp prodding at her brother and heard her babbling as she went on about things biting her soul. Mistyvale sighed, and got up quietly. 'Violetwisp? Do you want my bedding? I'm gonna go outside for a bit of fresh air anyway. Have it if you want it.' she said, pushing her own bed of moss towards the tabby warrioress.

Violetwisp shook her head, eyes wild. "No, no, no!" she wailed, ears flat. She stared at Flaxfeather's bedding as though it was crawling with maggots. "No! Not that! None!" The tabby she-cat turned to her brother as he spoke again. She smiled shakily, her sides heaving, but the wailing dying away. "And they'll fly away to the big blue. The big blue blue blue!" The she-cat then turned watery eyes onto Mistyvale as she woke up. She sprang forwards so that her muzzle was practically poking out the younger she-cat's eye. "You had it too! And you gave it up so easily! It's not fair! Not!" Her breathing rose again and she unsheathed her claws as if it attack Mistyvale.
Violetwisp then stumbled back. She stared at Mistyvale's bedding, eyes wide with terror. "No! No!" Her voice was horror-stricken. "No! No stop it! Don't speak to me!" She staggered backwards into Slatesky, then tripped over Flaxfeather, who grunted in his sleep. Violetwisp glared at Flaxfeather. "Don't make a sound, he said, she said! Don't!"

__ Do you even know what Violetwisp is talking about, Shade? xD
She seemed wild with terror. She was wild with terror, and Slatesky didn't know what to do about it. Making all this racket, his sister would wake up the whole of BrightClan in no time at all. She understood what he was saying but he didn't understand her, and that alone was enough to make Violetwisp hard to handle. Breathing in, the stone-colored tomcat began to speak once more. "What do they have, Violetwisp? Do Hazelfrost and Mousewind have it, too?" Staying calm while Violetwisp jumped about would have been hard on any other cat, he knew. But he had grown up with her and taken care of her. His throat tightened as she glared at the bedding. Violetwisp had acted strange before, but this was... scary. "What's in the bedding?" he asked quietly, hoping the small tabby could answer all his questions without getting side-tracked.

// Yes. *blinks mysteriously*
Violetwisp turned to look at her brother, her mouth a straight line of fear. The small brown tabby she-cat flattened her ears, scratching the earth with her claws. "They have the snores," she mewed, her voice hushed and face wild. "Every night, slipping through my paws like sand." The small she-cat barely listened to her brother's next question, but bared her teeth at him. "Everyone has it! Except me!" Violetwisp rested her chin on her paws, eyes wide and sad. She bristled at Skatesky's next question. The moss. The moss that talked. It still was. Whispering and murmuring and... She recoiled, tail thrashing.
"The whisper!"

It took him a few heartbeats to register what Violetwisp meant. It relieved him to have a basic idea of his sister's problem, however faint. "You can't sleep?" he murmured, and recalling the last few moons - maybe even farther back - he had never seen Violetwisp asleep, true. He licked her ear gently, not sure how to get her to sleep at all. But the tabby was far from settled. The whisper? he shivered, wondering if the warrioress was hullicinating.
"What is it saying?" Never before had Slatesky dared ask Violetwisp something like that.

city on fire Violetwisp slowly nodded, her lips pressed together and her bright eyes drooping slightly. "Yes. They have it. Every night. They taunt me with it. With it all. All of them, until I could shred their fur." The little tabby warrior shuddered, her eyes wide. They looked bloodshot up close from lack of sleep and fear. Still she was hanging back from the moss Mistyvale had so kindly offered her, her tail swaying nervously and her ears flicking as though counting down the seconds.
"They warn me. They say, stay away. Stay away. We don't want you. You're not right." Violetwisp stared at the moss, and tears suddenly filled her eyes and brimmed over, soaking her cheeks with salty water. "Why do they say it, Slatesky? Why? Why? Why is it not fair? Why is it me? Why not him, or her, or him him her!" Violetwisp pointed a forepaw manicly at several of the sleeping warriors, her sides heaving as she sobbed, her noise threatening to rouse the whole of BrightClan.[/blockquote]

"I don't know why," he whispered to her. Pity and sadness for his sister filled his voice but he tried his best to swallow it. The fact that Violetwisp didn't understand that no one meant to taunt her made it all worse. Sighing, he ran his dark-colored tail along her spine gently. "Can you not sleep because of the voice? Violetwisp..." He didn't know what to say. What could he say? This voice was threatening her, telling her something was wrong with her. The voice was all in her head... At least, that was how Slatesky saw it. "You are different. But that's what makes you special." [/blockquote]
