Crystalkit tossed and turned in her sleep. Moonlight danced about her tabby body. Taunting her. Smart moon. Crystalkit was cocked in Calmheart's deep chocolate fur, where she could find sleep anytime, no matter what was happening.
. on the boulevard of broken dreams .
Crystalkit blinked open her eyes, the blue eyes for which she was named. But instead of them meeting the walls of her nursury den, her mother's calm eyes, she saw a field. Not the kind of fields the medicine cats went to find herbs, full of wildflowers and life. No. This field was cloaked in night, a cloak so black that the moon could not shine through. The grass here was long and mostly wilted, and when the wind blew through it's yellow stems it hissed like an angry mentor. The pretty silver she-kit shivered as a gust of cold wind rushed by, ruffling her fur like ripples on water.
Where am I?, she thought franticly. Where am I?
. when the city sleeps .
Looking around madly from the cold rock she was perched on, she noticed somthing. A cat, muscular and large, was padding toward her. His ice-blue eyes glimmered, but Crystalkit couldn't make out what they shone with.
"Do not be afraid," the cream-colored tabby meowed in a deep voice. "I am Cagedstar, former leader of CloudClan."
Cagedstar. Yes, Crystalkit knew him now. Elders told tales of him, miraculous tales. They said his muscles could fend off even a fox. They looked like they could. They said his cream coat shone like silver in the night. It did. They told her that his blue eyes showed warmth and ferocity at the same time. And that, most of all, was true.
"Small kit," he said after pausing. "You have been selected." Selected? By who?
"I don't understand!" She yowled, her fear making her kit voice higher than normal. But Cagedstar continued on.
"You must go where the sun shines white hot
Where the land melts from the sun's heat
But where everything is bitterly cold.
Where water is never ending
and where prey are the predators
only then will the nightmare become
myth once again."
. and its only me .
Crystalkit felt her breathing speed up. "I don't understand!" she yowled again, tears filling her eyes. "Tell me more!"
But the tom said no more. But before he vanished, he left her with his words -
"StarClan will be with you."
