xx He's a stranger to some And a vision to none He can never get enough, Get enough of the world xx
Leaf-bare was coming. That much was apparent. The frosty winds, the crunching leaves shimmering aurous and auburn, the husky breaths emitting from the near-warrioress that followed her deputy and mentor. Pansypaw cringed when her pads crumpled cold, wet leaves as she walked, but she tried not to think about the cold so much. She was, however, supposed to be accessed to see if Clearpool believed that she was ready to become a warrior.
The ginger she-cat caught up with her mentor and flashed a friendly smile. She and Clearpool got along great. Pansypaw's grin turned a bit mischievious. "So, Clearpool, I know this is supposed to be a training session, but...," she began and then looked around secretively, flicking her tail right and left. "Do you have a crush on anyone?" A smirk creased Pansypaw's little muzzle.
xx For a fortune he'd quit But it's hard to admit How it ends and begins On his face is a map of the world xx

Clearpool had been walking along ahead of her apprentice. She loved being out of camp at times like this, when the air was fresh and the fallen leaves crisp under her paws. She was just walking along, these thoughts filling her mind when Pansypaws question suddenly popped into her head. She nearly fell over at the shock of her apprentice speaking suddenly and the question she had asked. "What in.....No! No i dont have a crush on anyone Panyspaw" she spluttered, regaining her balance. She looked at Pansypaw. "Why?" she asked suspiciously. She suddenly remebered why they were out and cleared her throat. "Right Pansypaw. This is your assesment. Firstly, i would like you to go hunting. I will be tracking you of course, but without you noticing. See how much you can catch and i will come to you when i feel i have seen enough" she said to her apprentice, licking a paw and drawing it over her ears a few times.

Pansypaw opened her mouth to protest and debate with her mentor on the subject of mates, but no, Clearpool had diverted the subject into the assessment. "All right," she finally conceded, nodding her ginger head.
The apprentice went a ways away from Clearpool and took a deep breath, stormy-gray eyes flickering left and right. Her nose twitched and she caught the smell of a mouse. She lifted her paw gingerly, nimbly avoiding a leaf as she lowered herself to the ground. Her muscles ticked and sent her flying into the air, landing roughly on the mouse. Like a water moccasin, her fangs bared and she plunged down for the kill. After that first kill, she buried it with dirt and her scent and then groomed herself for a moment before continuing onward. She caught a squirrel and another scrawny mouse before missing. That catch was a starling, which had been scared off by the fact that she was making as much noise as a badger when she tripped over a root.
Pansypaw recovered and shook herself, body twittering all the way down to her tail. She was a bit nervous, no lie, but she had a tinge of confidence in her skills. The episode with the starling made her look like an idiot though. She slowly crept upon another mouse, hiding behind a fern before lunging for a successful meal. However, that "successful mea" managed to escape.
"Fox-dung," she grouched, coming to her feet irritably as she looked around. Spying a chipmunk, the ginger she-cat smirked and raced after it. Having trapped it against some rocks and moss, she snapped at it with her claws and strangled it. Successful kill number three.

Clearpool stepped out of the bushes where she had been watching her apprentice. She walked over to her and sat down. "That was good Panyspaw, but you missed that mouse beacuse you were nervous because of the bird you had missed before. Everyone misses sometimes, even Jasminestar!" she said, smiling fondly at her apprentice. She stood up again once more. "Try again once or twice and then we'll move on. And don't worry if you miss" she said, pretending to be stern but she couldnt hide the amused twinkle in her eyes. She crept back into the bushes and disappeared.

Pansypaw swallowed and then nodded in understanding. "Right," she told her mentor. She exhaled deeply and quickly scented another nearby chipmunk and lunged for it. She felt her claws clasp around the auburn-colored fur and immediately lunged down to bite for the kill. She presented Clearpool with two more pieces of kill with a gentle murmur of "I thank StarClan for this meal." Her dark-gray eyes looked up towards her mentor. "What's next?"

Clearpool nodded as she saw the kills. "Well done. Now, bury them quickly and follow me" she said, and turned to walk through the trees, her white tail swishing. They came to a clearing and she turned to look at Pansypaw. "Now, i know we havnt done a lot of this and im sorry but in sure you will have got enough practice in the battle. So, we are going to do some fighting" she said. She went and stood a few fox-lengths away from her apprentice. "Now attack me, claws sheathed" she instructed and stood, ready for action.

Pansypaw nodded at the mention of the battle. Her muscles and faint scars still pained her occasionally, but Runningcloud had patched her up so she was still usable. The ginger apprentice cleared her throat, took a deep breath, and bent her body. She tensed her muscles. It was different in a battle, where basically everything was experimental and instinctive. She supposed that she could make mistakes.
She shook her head and focused on the deputy, swallowing a lump in her throat. Runningcloud had been deputy and she saw the fighting the medicine cat had put up against Hyenapaw. She wondered if she was as good as Hyenapaw. She blushed at the thought before once more focusing on Clearpool. She rolled her shoulders back and lunged forward, pausing before the deputy's face before aiming a clawless swipe at the deputy's ear.

Clearpool watched her apprentice carefully and was ready for the attack. She drew back sharply just as Panyspaw got to her, missing her by a whisker. She smiled and nodded. "That was good, but you thought about it too long. Try and do something im not expecting and dont think about it for long. Also, dont look where you are aiming. That always confuses an opponent" she said to her apprentice. She motioned with her tail for Pansypaw to go back to where she had stood before and try again.

Pansypaw dipped her head in apology as she returned to her previous spot. "Sorry, I tend to think out my strategy too much. I guess that wouldn't work if it had distracted me," the apprentice said, smiling sheepishly. She was known for planning out these elaborate moves, but she would have to learn to do that while still on the offensive. Without warning, she sped at Clearpool, lunging for the deputy's ear again. However, when she was in inch away from Clearpool, the ginger she-cat swiveled on her heels and drew her paw to a sharp arching curve for the move to land on Clearpool's shoulders. She was elegant alright, but it wouldn't work if her plans would crash because she wasn't fast enough to put them in action.

Clearpool nodded and braced herself again. As Pansypaw ran at her again she saw the apprentice aim for her ears again and drew back her head. She let out a small squeak of surpirse as Pansypaw thudded her forepaw down on Clearpools shoulders. The white she-cat was pushed to the ground, her back legs still upright. She pushed herself up and licked the dust from under her nose. "Much better, well done. You made sure you had thought of everything that time and worked" the deputy said to her apprentice. She looked up at the sky, the sun was just beggining to set. "Come on then, we're finished. Lets collect the kills you've made and head back to camp" she siad and began walkign towards where they had buried the prey.

Pansypaw beamed with pride at her mentor's compliments and hastily ran around to pick up her buried kill, mouse and chipmunk tails dangling from her quaint maw. The ginger femme turned to Clearpool with a broad smile, but she was exhausted. She would like nothing better than to take a rest in the apprentice's lair, but she doubted she would be calm enough to actually sleep. She had passed her accessment! There would be no doubt that she was to be the best warrior she could be, perhaps deputy one day!
