A cold breeze buffeted the tiny she-cat's unkept coat. Blackpaw sat outside the medicine cat's den. Brilliant blue eyes gazed around the camp. A soft sighed escaped her lips as she looked, yet again, into the medicine cat's den. She had been sitting outside there for ages, just thinking. Her little mind was troubled. Will Runningcloud accept me? Will I get to be medicine cat apprentice? Questions like that nawed at her stomache. The current medicine cat, Runningcloud, had just lost her other apprentice and it didn't seem like she was willing to have another one quite yet. So, Blackpaw was to wait, doing nothing but hanging around the camp. She didn't mind... too much. She just wanted to get to work, helping other cats.

"Hi Blackpaw!"
Lavenderkit's happy and hyper mew cut through the air as her small orange-and-white body charged toward Blackpaw. She managed to veer herself away before she smacked right into Blackpaw, but she couldn't miss that quiet sigh. "Why are you so saa-ad?" she extended the word sad to emphasize it - but that was Lavenderkit, always trying to get a point across somehow. She sat down with a thud beside Blackpaw and turned her head slightly. Her bright amber gaze was still on the she-cat, staring right into the apprentice's blue. She blinked and then realized that Blackpaw was in front of the medicine den - she was slow when it came to these types of things - and suddenly her anxious side kicked in. "Why are you in front of the medicine cat den? Is somone sick? Is mama sick?" she chased her tail in a tight circle before sitting down again, slightly dizzy this time. [/blockquote]

Hyenapaw cut a strong figure against the pine trees. The young tom stood outside the apprentices' den, blinking his startlingly bright cerulean eyes. The creamy ginger tom stretched out his limbs, flicking back his ears and curling his tail. The morning was new, and the snow had stopped falling - for now. Hyenapaw trudged towards the medicine den, wondering whether Runningcloud was there. She had promised to train him. The handsome apprentice peered down at the two cats before him. He recognized both. One was Blackpaw, a fellow apprentice, but much younger than him. The other was Lavenderkit, one of Pastelsky's kits. He had maintained a close bond with his former mentor even when she had been in the nursery, and had been one of the first to see her kits. The strong young tom smiled his fleeting, wolfish smile at Lavenderkit. "Hey, you," he mewed, cuffing her lightly under the chin with a large ginger paw. He nodded at Blackpaw. "Hi," he greeted her. "Have you seen Runningcloud?"

"Your mother is not ill, child. She's out and about with Timberkit and the others as Peanutdrift and Clearpool fix the holes in the nursery."
The stern but kind voice was unmistakable, causing everyone to know who it was even before her broad frame shouldered itself into the dreary light of Leaf-bare. The medicine cat, former deputy, stood up strong, towering over the three cats. Her eyes, still fiery from battle, turned to Blackpaw and then to Hyenapaw before looking down at the little Lavenderkit. Her large paw lifted and sat itself on Lavenderkit's head gently, stroking it. "Did Pastelsky allow you to be out here so far, young miss?" Runningcloud said softly, raising a firm brow.
She shook out her fluffy pelt before turning to Hyenapaw. "Good, I was just about to come get you when I was done with my work. Are you ready to finish what we started?" Approval flashed in her valkyrie eyes at Hyenapaw's initiative to approach her. "We can go to the outskirts."

"Hiya, Hyenapaw!" the lithe tabby kitten mewed, flicking her ear in a friendly way as he brought his giant paw up to her chin. She liked Hyenapaw, and now she was more determined than ever to be a strong, reliable warrior, like he was going to be soon. "I don't know where Runningclou- eep!" Lavenderkit jumped up as Runningcloud emerged from the medicine den. It's a good thing mama isn't sick, she thought, relieved. The mackerel-striped tabby set her amber eyes on her paws when Runningcloud asked her if she was supposed to be here. "Uhm, I don't think mama will mind," she mewed. "I, um, don't think she'll mind if I'm with Blackpaw and Runningcloud and Hyenapaw, right?" [/blockquote]

Runningcloud cleared her throat dubiously and raised her brow at Lavenderkit's excuse, but acquiesced with a gentle smile. "I'll keep an eye on you, child," she said softly.
Steps elegant, bearing high, and voice as melodic as a songbird, Pansypaw stepped out of the apprentice's den, smiling like an empress as she neared the mostly-fae group. She saw Hyenapaw and blushed faintly, lowering her head to avoid his handsome gaze so that she wouldn't start blurting out random comments. Instead she turned to Blackpaw and waved to the younger apprentice. The near-warrior wagged her tail. "Hello there, Blackpaw." Her gaze then washed over the others. "Lavenderkit, Runningcloud,"--a respectful dip of the head--"Hyenapaw." Another blush came here as she faced him.
