A cool breeze rippled off the placid shore of the Wide Lake. Scarredowl uttered a small purr as she stepped onto the cool sands. A light mist hung in the air, shrouding the world in a thin blanket. The sky was pitch black, scattered with thousands of stars, the moonlight reflecting off the shlowly shifting waters like glass. She stepped forth, placing her paws into the water. She gazed down at the rippled reflection gazing back at her--a hideous bird-jester face. She shuddered, causing the ripples to distort the image. "A twilight swim..." She breathed, "Surely this will calm me down."
Pressing herself further into the water, the she-cat submerged herself several times, trying to rid herself of the ugly feeling on her. Seeing her scars...it always made her feel sick. Surfacing and taking a deep breath, the she-warrior dove down once again, her paws brushing the sand beneath the ground. Further out she swam, the water turning from cool to freezing. Rushing back up, she took another breath and went back down. This was rather peculiar to her, she hadn't been out this far before nor did she think of the fact there could be underwater-currents.
Putting a paw out before her, she felt the cold water rush against her paw. Slowly but surely she pushed herself further in, but almost halfway through she was dragged all the way in. The air was knocked out of her lungs as she collided with rocks and dragged through underwater foliage, the water rushing up her nose and into her mouth. Desperately clawing, the propelled herself upward, lightheaded and sick by the time she managed to get to the surface. She got half a breath before getting dragged down again.
After yet another struggle that seemed to take forever, she managed to free herself. As soon as she got to the shore she collapsed, coughing and trembling. As she lay there, rolled over onto her side as the waves slid up and down the shore, she began to think about what had just happened. After all of that, all the terror, all the pain, the fact she nearly died...something deep inside her mind loved the feeling. A chill ran through her wet body. That made her sick, knowing that she enjoyed it. Quickly she perished the thought, lying to herself, telling herself that she enjoyed getting back ON SHORE rather than nearly suffocating in the currents. Her face felt hot...something warm and sticky sliding down her face...she parted her jaws, wondering what this was and was greeted with shock. She was bleeding. Heavily.
