"Good job!" he purred. Midnightsky sniffed the air, ran into the bushes, and came back with a rabbit.

Shoalpaw stood and backed up. He was very frustraited with his father now but didn't give up... yet. He crouched down and circled his father like he did before but this time he had an idea. He sprang for the middle of Skytomb's side as fast as he possibly could.

Skytomb looked to the right, then felt something collide with his side. He fell to the ground, and lay there for a moment. He then sprang to his paws and thrust a hefty paw at his son's chest. "Good," he purred, afterwards. Halopaw watched her brother go, then followed.

Midnightsky turned and saw his sister. He decided to do some training with her, since his apprentice wasn't here. "What can you smell?" he asked.

Shoalpaw smiled proudly at his father before standing and shaking the dust and dirt of his pelt. "Now what?"he asked excitedly and stood back, waiting for what his father had to say. He wagged his tail and sat straight.

Skytomb licked a dusty shoulder. "Now, try to defend yourself againt me. Claws sheathed, of course." He stood up, rocking his haunches back and forth a few times, before leaping for Shoalpaw. He aimed for his shoulders, but at the last moment swung for the apprentice's flank with his back legs. Halopaw sniffed the air delicately, wondering why her brother was questioning her sense of smell. Then again, she thought, she had only been out training with Snowstorm a few times, which irritated her. "Mouse, a trace of fox, twoleg, and a scent I don't recognize," she reported back to Midnightsky. "It's all mixed up with the twoleg scent."

bic:// Midnightsky immediately stiffened. "That's loner scent," he growled, "Come on, let's go check it out." He crept up and peered through the bushes. It was a lone all right. "Yargh!" He yowled, launching himself at the loner. It pushed him away and charged for Halopaw. "No one hurts my sister!" he cried. Midnightsky grabbed the cat's leg and threw him across the clearing. The loner stood up, shook off his pelt, and charged for Midnightsky. the loner threw himself onto the warrior, and pinned him. "Halopaw! Help!" the feeble squeaks of Midnightsky's voice could just be heard.

Shoalpaw was as quick as light and sprang to the side but Skytomb's back legs hit is hind-quarters and he lost his balence but sprang up again and stood, ready for an attack. He was breathing hard but sprang for his father's side, hard and fast. He felt as though this was a real battle but wanted to show that he was a good fighter to his father.

Skytomb jumped at just the right time and landed squarely on top of his son. He stayed there, pinning the apprentice down for a few seconds, before jumping neatly away and waiting for Shoalpaw to get back to his paws.

Shoalpaw bounced up at narrowed his eyes at his father. He didn't even need to think of what to do next. He stayed close to the ground as he ran as fast as he could under his father and when he came out the other side, he jumped on top of his father and prertended to scratch his back and bite him with sheathed claws.
