Skytomb padded over the hill, sitting at the top while he waited for his apprentice to arrive.

Shoalpaw followed his father up one of the many hills of the Cloudy Hills. It was about SunHigh by now but there was so much of the day to come. He padded up beside his father and sat down next to him, his eyes scanning the hills.

"Watch out, he's tough," Whispered Midnightsky to his brother. He just showed up. Turning to his father, he meowed, "Do you mind if I trained with you?"

Shoalpaw opened his mouth and smelled the fresh air. It was dense and fogged but thats how the Cloudy Hills got their name and how his own Clan got a name. He closed in and tilted his head. He was trying to remember the prey his mother brought into the nursery, what it smelled like, and what she told him about it. "Mouse and..."he murmured and thought a moment,"And rabbit!" He looked up at his father, as proud as could be. "Mouse and rabbit,"he repeated and smiled really wide. As Midnightsky, his brother came up to the pair Shoalpaw flicked his tail in a greeting. "Hiya!"he meowed to him,"I'm gonna need a tough mentor though! Momma said if I have a tough mentor I will learn more... or something like that." He looked at the ground, thinking about what she said.

Shoalpaw gazed up at the tom. He had always admired his big brother like a role model. He was a good role model too. He smiled and swished his tail back and forth. "Yay!"he mewed quietly,"So Flightpaw is your apprentice?" He tilted his head for he did not see the apprentice in sight though he shrugged and looked back at his brother,

Skytomb looked at his older son, and flicked his ears in greeting. He hushed the two tabbies, then twitched his long blue tail to get Shoalpaw's attention. He nodded at a mouse up ahead, nibbling on a seed, sat up on its skinny haunches. The tom looked at his apprentice. "When hunting, you must keep all your weight on your hanches, and creep nice and carefully up to your target. Watch," The big tom dropped into a crouch, stealthily crept forwards, and pounced. The mouse was dead in an instant, and Skytomb brough it back an dropped it beside Shoalpaw. "Now you try it," he instructed his apprentice.

Midnightsky sat down and watched his father hunt. "Good catch," he whispered, remembering his own training sessions.

Shoalpaw watched intentively as his father hunted the mouse. He watched the movement and the weight in the haunches thing. He nodded his head to his head as he caught the prey and brought it back. He then lifted his head and breathed in the Leaf bare air. There was a smell of mouse near and he took the chance to hunt that one down. Looking around, he spotted it just beside a large bush about five fox lengths away. The apprentice walked forward, keeping his wait in his haunches and staying as light on his paws as he possibly could. At about one fox length away, he sprang and landed on the mouse. It was dead in a matter of a few seconds but it managed to make a quiet squeak. He grabbed in his jaws and proudly walked back to his father and brother.

Skytomb purred in pride as his son brought him his first catch. He rasped his tongue over the silver tabby's ear, his yellow eyes glowing. He remembered watching Midnightsky making his first catch. He had been so determined... The blue-grey tom smiled as he remembered his son's frustration whenever he missed a catch. "Well done, Shoalpaw," he mewed. "Do you want to carry on hunting for a bit or would you like to learn the basics of fighting?"

Shoalpaw smiled at his father's praise and wagged his tail rapidly. He was extremely happy and proud that he had caught a mouse on his first try. The silver tom looked at the sky and back at his father. "Well it's getting kinda late... so...,"he thought for a moment and then meowed,"I want to do a little fighting before we go back I supose."

Skytomb smiled at his eldest son, flicking his tail in farewell. THen he returned to Shoalpaw, looking at him with intense yellow eyes. "As you eish." The blue-grey tom stood, half-crouched, shoulders tense, in a battle posture. "Alright then; attack me."

Shoalpaw payed barely any attention to Midnightsky as he trotted off but thought of what to do. He looked around for a week spot. Guessing the side would be week enough, he sprang to one side, then back to the other side, before running into his large mentor.

Skytomb watched his apprentice carefully, and timed a just before Shoalpaw rammed into him. He landed on top of the silver tabby, before cilimbing off of him and mewing: "Your eyes betrayed your actions. Try again."

Shoalpaw nodded and stood back. He thought for a moment before making his move. He swiftly slid under his father and when he was at the end, he jumped on top of his father, pretending to dig his claws into him and bite his neck.

Skytomb kicked his son off of his back, then padded over to him with gleaming yellow eyes. "Good; that would've worked on a cat of your own age."

Shoalpaw looked up at his father proudly as he stood, trying to look tall but that didn't work. He smiled and wagged his tail. "Yeah, Daddy's a little too big for me to crush!"he meowed playfully.

Skytomb flicked his son's muzzle with his tail, uttering a purr of amusement. He nudged the silver tabby's shoulder, then mewed: "Fetch your catch, then go back to camp. You may hunt on the way but don't get into trouble." He then licked his son between his ears. "Well done for today, Shoalpaw: you show great promise." The blue-grey warrior headed off into the thick band of trees surrounding the Cloudy Hills, before he disappeared completely.

Shoalpaw bowed his head to his father and watched him leave. He looked around for his kill. The mouse lie not too far away from where he stood but his eyes fell on a young rabbit that hopped around. He smiled and got into a crouch. He stalked the prey slowly until he was a fox length away from the rabbit. It had been digging for something. He sprang and landed on top of it. It was dead in a matter of seconds. He gruntted softly and picked it up as well as the mouse before returning to camp.
