Haloheart blinked, watching Indigopaw and Barleypaw talking. She sighed. She knew her parents' move to the elders' den would shock her three youngest siblings, but they had to accept that Icelily and Skytomb were no longer young cats. Haloheart felt pride fill her paws as she thought of her heritage. She knew she would walk in her mother and father's pawprints, and make them proud. Haloheart gritted her teeth. But she would never break her oath. She would never fall in love again. The slight ginger tabby turned her head as a voice drifted to her ears. She recognized Barrenpaw, and her small, triangular ears flicked back in surprise. "Hi," she mewed, keeping her tone wary but even. She frowned as he spoke, but realised that he was trying to make things better. She wasn't sure why - she could still detect the hate behind those large eyes. Haloheart shrugged. "So're you," she replied. "In fact, you're better than okay. You could be a great warrior if you just accepted that I'm your mentor and got on with it. You may not like me, but I still have to teach you."

As Mooncloud felt the prod in her side and heard the question, she realized that she wasn't the only cat who thought it was time for her to be an elder. 'I think so, after all, I'm not exactly young, am I?' She mewed with a chuckle. She knew that she wasn't the only one who thought she was old, she was old enough to remember Cagedstar, and that was a while back. She sighed softly, wishing that she was younger. 'Oh well,' She murmured.

Barrenpaw sighed. "Yes." he muttered, then kneaded the ground with his forepaws. "I just went hunting and caught a vole, so I think I'm good for the rest of the day." the dark creamy tom sat down and drew a paw over his ear thoughtfully.
