Spindlespider sat gazing into the distance. He couldn't understand, why did he feel this way and, more importantly, what was he feeling? He didn't know. He licked a dainty grey paw and drew it over his left ear. What should he do? How could he know what to do if he didn't understand how he felt. The winf blew softly, ruffling his grey pelt. He turned his blue eyes to the sky. "Why, Starclan?" He asked quietly.

Spectreflame had wandered from the camp after the ceremony had endd. She had a bitter taste on the tip of her tongue. She knew she shouldn't feel jealous of her best friend, but... She sighed in frustration. Frostpaw was Wovenknot's second apprentice, and she hadn't even had her first yet. Grumpily she padded on. She caught the scent of another MoonClan warrior, quickly indentifying it. She brushed into the clearing and stood beside Spindlespider. "Hello, young one."

Spindlespider jumped slightly, then as he saw it was only Spectreflame, he sat back down, smoothing his ruffled fur. "Hello." He replied.

Spectreflame sighed. She sat beside the young tom, looking up at the stars with her icy blue gaze. She wondered where her father was up there. She scanned the skies, taking in every detail. She had lost her father.. Spectreflame looked at her sleek snow coloured paws. Chaosdance was dead, too. She remembered going out on patrol with them and Pearlblade. At the time her mother had still been heavily pregnant with Ravenpaw and Frostpaw. A badger had attacked, desperate to feed its cubs. Spectreflame remembered the fight had been going to their favour until a second badger arrived. A brock. It had killed her father and brother as they had protected Pearlblade. Spectreflame glanced at a horrible scar on her flank. The badger had hurt her, too. Just in time a patrol had arrived, saving her and her mother... Spectreflame blinked away tears and sniffed.

Spindlepaw looked sideways at her, blinking his dark blue eyes. "It's ok." He meowed, pressing his nose against her cheek.

Spectreflame smiled. He had no idea. "No, it's not," she mewed bitterly. "My father and brother are dead, my best friend is on her second apprentice while I havn't even recieved my first, and my leader hates me." The longhaired white she-cat winced as she said it. It felt worse to hear it all out loud, rather than churning round and round in her brain.

Spindlespider looked at her sympathetically, but did not know what to say to comfort the she-cat.

Spectreflame sighed and looked at her paws. "Sorry," she mewed. It's not your fault. I've been such a fool." She looked at Spindlespider. She was not sure why she was unburdening herself to her best friend's former apprentice. She supposed he had just been there, that was all. She blew out in a long sigh.

Spindlespider nodded understandingly, then looked up at the sky again, his whiskers twitching as he thought hard.

Spectreflme shook herself as if ridding herself of her worries. She noticed Spindlespider looked uncertain and upset. "What's the matter?" she asked him. She sounded concerned.

"I...I think I'm in love with Wovenknot." Spindlespider said quietly. Suddenly realising what he'd said he looked pleadingly up at Spectreflame, "Please don't tell anyone." He mewed.

Spectreflame looked at the young warrior for a momnt. Wovenknot wasn't exactly what you'd call pretty... But she smiled at the tom. "I won't. But I think you should tell her. She likes you, too." The longhaired white cat knew she should have been happy for her friend, but jealousy crept into her skull. Yet again.

Spindlespider looked shocked. "Really? Does she really like me?" He asked, almost kit-like in his excitement.

Spectreflame cuffed him over the ear. "Keep your ears on, not that much!" she purred in amusement. "Yiu'll scare her off, acting like that." The longhaired white warrior's smile faded as she looked up at the stars. She suspected the two brightest, in her eyes, were her dead father and brother.

"Oh, yes, right." Spindlespider licked his paw and flattened his ruffled fur.

Spectreflame nudged the young warrior's flank with her nose. "Go on. I think Wovenknot is back at camp. Frostpaw's resting; she is still recovering from that fever she had." The longhaired white she-cat remembered Wovenknot's sickness in the ceremony earlier today. She hoped her friend felt better.

"Ok, I'll go see her." Spindlespider meowed, running a few steps, then turning back and licking Spectreflame on the ear, "Thankyou." he mewed, then hurried back towards camp.

Spectreflame dipped her head to the young tom. Once he was gone she felt very alone. She lay down, resting her head on her paws. She felt gloom rush up to clutch at her heart. She had been so happy as an apprentice, playing with Wovenpaw, Chaospaw and her sisters. Warriorhood was full of troubles. She sighed. Maybe if she had been chosen to mentor Frostpaw or Ravenpaw.. She spat bitterly. There were no other cats in MoonClan due to have kits.
