Wovenknot trotted out of the trees, the Moonlit Hills towering above her. Her pale blue eyes saught out the sky. It was filled with pale grey clouds, the sky itself a slightly darker shade of grey. It seemed that it may rain. She sat down on her haunches to wait for Spindlepaw, feeling the first drops of rain spatter her ears.

Spindlepaw twitched his whiskers at the rain, then padded over to Wovenknot.

Wovenknot turned to face Spindlepaw. She did not know if the apprentice had ever done any hunting training before - she decided to start with the basics, in case he had not. "Okay. In order to catch prey, you need to learn how to do the hunting crouch." Wovenknot dropped into a stealthy crouch, her perfect stance only hampered by her missing leg. "You try it."

Spindlepaw nodded and atempted the crouch, tripping slightly the first time. He tried again.

"Good." Wovenknot purred as her apprentice performed the crouch correctly. "Okay; there is another lesson you must learn before you try hunting. Each animal senses us creeping up on them in a different way - a mouse would feel your pawsteps through the ground before he even saw you, but a rabbit would scent you first." Wovenknot looked at Spindlepaw. "So what do you think we must bear in mind when hunting mice and rabbits?"

Spindlepaw looked thoughtful. "Uh...We have to step lightly and stay down wind?" He mewed a little uncertainly.

"Good." Wovenknot lifted her muzzle into the air and inhaled. The scent of a mouse reached her nose. She knew that dispite the fact that newleaf had arrived, the prey in MoonClan territory was still scarce. She could not afford to miss this mouse. Dropping into a skilled hunting crouch, Wovenknot stealthily crept towards the scent. Soon enough she caught sight of the small, grey-brown creature. She kept her pawsteps light, her blue eyes fixed on her target, narrowed with concentration. When her cinder-grey paws were mere tail-length away from the unwitting mouse, she pounced, catching the prey in her paws and killing it swiftly. Wovenknot carried her catch back to Spindlepaw. "Like that. You try."

Spindlepaw nodded. He sniffed the air and caught the scent of another mouse. He crouched and slowly moved towards it. He gritted his teeth in concentration, he wanted to impress Wovenknot so he better not mess up. When he was close enough, he pounced on the mouse and bit its neck, killing it.

Wovenknot smiled as Spindlepaw caught the mouse, uttering a little cry of pride. Her eyes shimmered. She had not expected the young tom to catch something on his first try. The grey tabby limped over to her apprentice, licking him between the ears in praise. "That was really good," Wovenknot purred. "Well done."

Spindlepaw wriggled his ears in pleasure. "What are we going to do now?" He asked.

Wovenknot smiled at her apprentice's impatience. "Go into that thicket over there," she pointed to a dense thicket with her tail. "And try to catch as much prey as possible. Then come back to me." Wovenknot sat down, licking a paw and drawing it behind her ears.

Spindlepaw nodded, then disappeared into the thicket.

Wovenknot sat down, and began to lick the stump where her fourth leg had once been. It was aching from all of the running and stretching of her muscles Wovenknot had done today. Her blue eyes were fixed on the thicket and her whiskers twitched as she waited for Spindlepaw to reappear.

(I'll just speed up time wheehee!) "Gotcha." Muttered Spindlepaw as he landed on a rabbit. He gathered up the rest of his prey and attempted to carry it back. He forced his way out of the thicket carrying three mice, a rabbit, and a vole. "Is this enough?" He asked.

Wovenknot was surprised at the amount of prey her apprentice had managed to gather, but in a pleasent sort of way. She flicked her tail at the tom. "Well done." The she-cat picked up the rabbit and the vole and twitched her ears for Spindlepaw to follow her.
